It's not music, it is 'sound art' or 'sonic art', or 'Klangkunst'. It is purely materialistic: it derives its interest from the colours and patterns. There is no 'psychological dimension' to it. The idea was born from a distaste, in the first half of the last century, of expression in a musical and psychological sense. So, music got turned inside-out and all interest went to the shell: pure sound. Comparable with abstract painting: no referene to the reality around us, but disconnected to it and reduced to pure patterns. The result of both forms of abstraction is a decorative art form, not a 'speaking' one.

Melecolia 1 is a tremendous piece so it's a shame that it has not been correctly represented here.

Thank you. Masterwork. Ok, sometimes I have to wait a little while for the musical action to continue, but that has rather to do with my impatience and perhaps my ability to grasp music quickly, but: Masterwork.

The music from 2:04 is a choir piece by Russian composer Sviridov 1915-1998. I hope he is credited for this .

The furiously de-tuned effect. And the angulous fanfare effect. They should post a warning.

Never know that Messiaen did a revision of the score for Turangalila. I'd like to know what has been changed from the original edition.

Saw it yesterday in Berlin with Staatskapelle, Pohjola and Mälkki. Hearing it live makes it become very intense. I love Saariaho´s capabality of colors and sounds which never get boring, no matter what piece you listen to.
