Could you possibly direct me to any resources on how to construct such a kiln?

I didnt know that Bob Sawers helped Ralph on this book ..Very cool we have been freinds for years ..I knew he helped with the Kimpshi jar book on Onggi Korea that Raulph did but not the one on LM .I only talked to Lanier Meaders once near the end of his life .. I knew Ralph via working with Nancy Sweezy and Vernon Owens at Jugtown the summer of 1969 when Nancy first got involved with Jugtown ... Wonderful collection here Clint ...Thanks for the clip , Yours Guy

The firing looks great .. I use an angle grinder with a diamond wheel for the clean up on the wood ash glaze (my glaze is half albany slip half maple wood ash by volume ) :) I wish I found that angle grinder 50 years ago :) I like having cone ^4 to ^ 10 so I can see whats happening on the way .. All the best from New England ... Guy

Can you do a video filming the machine working away so I can watch it speeded up to see how the clay moves please? That would be so satisfying to watch!

Great video I've been digging my own clay here in Alabama for almost 10 years it's a fun process. Where did you get the plans to build your kiln?

Very interesting process and helpful to see but the Go Pro camera just causes motion sickness and I could not watch - had to listen with occasional glances at the screen….😊

you have a lot of debris in your clay, do you process it later to filter it all out?

I appreciate the straightforward information. What are the chains for?

I was wondering about the chains myself.

I see two possibilities. He needs the main door covered most of the time. The metal piece is flimsy and light. On a windy day, it needs to be secured. Maybe the chains drop down to cover / secure the door cover. The second possibility, depending on how far the chains "go around?" ..... is to guard against a failure, or small collapse from the tremendous expansion that must take place in the kiln that exceeds 2000 degrees. Maybe the chains are a backup to "hold everything together. He is using regular bricks, not firebricks it seems.

I wanted to provide some product information for the safety of your books. The covers you're demonstrating are designed for soft cover books/paperbacks and are not recommended for use for old and/or valuable books. For old books you will want to use an archival safe material, such as polyester or virgin polypropylene. Never use vinyl covers for any long term storage or use, it's not archival safe. Brodart offers many archival safe options for protecting your treasured collection, including some that you wouldn't need to alter to use.
