My great-grandfather studied here from 1911 and I have his Design books from his studies with gorgeous handwritten lecture notes, textile samples, hand coloured weaving charts etc. He worked at Listers Mill. My grandfather studied textile design in same building before and after WWII. Then whilst it was Bradford College, I worked in the same building as admin for music tech/6th form/etc. Would be lovely to see the building restored to former glory.
I was born in Great Horton in 1951. There used to be a veterinary surgery in a beautiful old house that we played in as children (when it was abandoned). Bradford University was built on the site. Can you find any photos of the house perhaps?
I never have liked this monstrosity.. ever since 1972 when my brother and a few of his pals took our dog " Patch" down there .. They sat atop the wall on the third floor .. Patch thought it was just a normal wall .. ran and jumped over .. fell to his death .. I won't be shedding tears over the demise of this concrete monstrosity...
Interestingly, the advertisement prior to your video was of a woman in scanty undies. How ironic, at that time, sexual attacks were in certain newspapers placed on the same page - 3.
Thank you very much for capturing the final stages of the NCP Car Park. Very lucky that you managed to get access to the demolition site. This video will be part of Bradford's history.
There used to be a showroom there selling Jensen cars back in the 70s, remember getting a brochure and looking through the window. Bradford was a more prosperous, safer and pleasant place to visit and work in those days.
Fair play to you. How you managed to get permission to do the video is a feat in it's self. I'm not sure many demolition sites would allow it what with H & S Regulations are like today. Great to see the old, old building's though, thanks for the time and effort you all obviously put in making these videos 💚
my final memory of being with my grandad before he died was in that car park! can barely recognise bradford anymore, all the old homely familiarity is being sucked out, whatever they’re doing i hope it’s worth it
L@@b00ts4ndc4ts Probably won't last long, like the Council offices at Jacob's Well, everything short lived and wasteful now and fine old buildings either demolished or victims of vandals and arsonists. City of Culture is a joke now.
Do you know when it was built , iam 54 and its been there from from all my memories from being young , what do they plan to do with the site now do you know ❤
I've never heard of 'company graves' either; the term is logical. I don't know how many of these graveyard companies existed -the Brookwood Necropolis Company being perhaps the best known. Unconsecrated ground was normally used for the unbaptised, particularly still born or very short lived children, suicides and others who the prevailing attitudes denied proper burial. From vague memory, it needed an Act of Parliament to put a stop to that and a few other practices!
This is an amazing upload which is already an invaluable historical document of a city centre feature that we all knew but is now lost forever. Nice one!
I found a video collection of photographs of Bradford through the decades & what a lifeless & different place the City centre is right now. I remember the queue's at bus stops to get home being 30 & 40 deep & you would have to wait for the next bus very often. The centre is like a ghost town now.
