The purpose of this channel is to promote the joy of responsible watch collecting while advancing the philosophy that the most valuable watch in the world is the one that works when you need it to the most. Also, time - not watches - is irreplaceable.
This channel WILL NOT promote one watch manufacturer over another, NOR will it accept ANY incentive meant to sway consumer opinion.
After following other watch reviewers for a couple of years, Dr. Anthony Baker ("DrWatch") decided it was time to add his own humble opinions to the ongoing horological discussion. In other words, somebody wanted to have a reason to make videos and talk about watches with other people who like to talk about watches (even though he knows far more about Theology than Horology).
You aren't spending 4k for the bracelet. I wasn't happy with the bracelet that came with my BB58 so I got a jubilee from Uncle Seiko and put it on there and I couldn't be happier.
Had the exact same disappointing experience recently when I went to a Breitling store and tried on a navitimer. Unbelievable. I prefer my Zelos and Pagani bracelets, which is absolutely insane. But good thing I like motorcycles and steak dinners. Lol
When the snobs stick up their nose to San Martin simply because it’s made in China, I call them fake watch enthusiasts and real racists. Tudor is already one of the better brands from Switzerland. I owned an Oris. I was so surprised by how poorly made the watch was considering the cost of it. If you spend over $100 on a Chinese made watch, you can hardly find anything worse than Oris. The Selita movement they put inside the Oris is not even regulated. The strap split within a week of the use. The bezel is more loose than a Pagani Design. That Oris is called entry level luxury? It’s plain robbery. But snobs still gonna buy them and laugh at the better quality homage watches.
@@thehumblehorologist6091 Yea. I’m talking about Bronze 65. Stay away from it. The bezel is bad. The strap is even worse. The movement is unfinished and unregulated. You are better off with San Martin even if they charge the same price
Being new to watch collecting, I think this is a great option on how to enjoy watches without breaking the bank. I love to get a Grand Seiko someday, but I currently have $500 and less watches that work just fine. I also like the microbrand where you get good quality watches under $1000.
Apples and oranges. The Duro has history, is a bit more unique being so big, and has name recognition and that cool Marlin logo. The Addiesdive is closer to, or a more obvious homage to, the submariner style - which is fine if you like that, but some don't - e.g. I hate the hands. The Duro is hugely improved with an aftermarket strap and a domed sapphire crystal; the Addiesdive might be a good platform to experiment with modification, but it won't really make it a better watch. Nothing wrong with the Addiesdive at all, "it all comes down to" personal taste, get what you like! The Addiesdive is more fun; the Duro is more widely usable.
I own both and they each have their advantages. I do admit that the Addiesdive spends more time on my wrist, but depending on what I'm wearing, choosing one or the other isn't a problem because both look great, have been reliable and durable.
I have 4 Aknights in light blue, coral red, green and yellow with leather bands. Their also branded by Benyar. I LOVE these watches. They look beautiful and have been very durable over the last year I've worn them. Highly recommended.
Very cool! Thanks for that info! It’s also fun to have someone from Russia leave a comment. Wait, does this mean I’m colluding? Are you trying to influence my channel? Should I be afraid? 😁
I don't have a car but I own around 70 watches 😂 Yes, really. I move between three apartments with watches everywhere and they're like candies to choose from every time I open the front door to go out
@@thehumblehorologist6091 I've seen one billionaire who has a collection of like 200 watches, all either luxury or Swatches. He says "You can't go wrong with wearing a Swatch". And no other cheapies. For me personally, man their jelly's in MoMA. That's the definition of the top of the top for me. And their store service is frontier.
Not a bad emergency watch, and it's a great idea to keep it in in your car. I'm not sure if my local Walmart still has watches. At one time they had a huge watch section, but those days are long gone. On the very rare occasion I'm not wearing one, I feel undressed and incomplete, and I become aware of how many times during the day I check the time. Great story, and I'm glad you survived!
@thehumblehorologist6091 the Timex Expedition is plastic, plastic case, 50m WR, ticks loud, the only real perks are it's lightweight and the Indiglo. And that casio is cheaper.
End of the day, Casio is a major Japan brand, whereas Addiesdive is a China homage brand. So, Addiesdive has easily 10 dive watches with varying specs under $100. So, I would spend the extra $20-50 & get a better specd Addiesdive with Sapphire !
I LOVE all of my AKNIGHT/Benyar (pronounced "aknite") watches. The yellow, coral red, green and blue are really beautiful to me. I have the leather bands, which I prefer. Since they're an homage of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, I wear them to both casual and formal affairs. I have a small wrist, so it fits really well. I think the 3 point end of the second hand looks stylish and in keeping with the logo.
That particular Addiesdive watch might not be a clear winner, but for Under $55, there are Addiedive and Steeldive watches that blow away the Casio. My SD1953 has a sapphire crystal, a fully lumed ceramic bezel, 300m WR, and an NH35A automaic movement, I paid only $51. The Addiesdive MY-H3 is similar to the AD2040, but features a fully lumed cermaic bezel for Under $40. The Steeldive SD1970 "Willard" can also be found for $50 to $55,
@@fayadnazim I got mine by going to AliExpress and scrolling through the adverts. The prices varied from one “store” to another. It might have been a sale, too, but I don’t remember.
So, it turned out it was not eaten by a dog after all? That is a bit disappointing, it'd make a good story. Glad you found it though, the other ones too. 👍
Nicely done, man! I truly enjoyed your honest and thorough review. Dream big! You never know. I was born and raised in Mississippi. And to quote that kid in Slingblade, "I like the way you talk!"
I have a few armitrons they never let me down, I prefer the Stainless Steel case analog watches they make. Their digital offerings are robust but still below Casio which rules the digital market as far as I'm concerned.
At least as of today, the Addiesdive is no longer near “half the price” of the Casio. While the date magnification is nice on the 2040 is nice, for me it doesn’t make up for having hands that are too narrow/ difficult to read at a glance. Nice to see both hit the markers on the seconds hand.
I just checked out the Addies for a review recently and used to have the Casio ages ago, before they remove the marlin, then got it back, now I think you can have it both ways. Loved that watch, it was a gift from my dad when I was a kid. But gotta say, the Addies totally outshines it, no comparison, sturdier, feels more dense, better proportions better feel in general, the lume is totally out of contest. Haven't seen the new Duros, so maybe they've upped their game. Still, at 80 to 90 bucks, I don't really see the point.
Thanks for a wonderful overview . I have had this in my cart for awhile & with your review I have now purchased it . I have quite a few Aliexpress watches & have only ever had 1 issue with a Tandorio 50 Fathoms homage that the bezel fell of after 2 months but after contacting Aliexpress they sent a post paid return code & I had my mobey back in 3 days . Can't complain about that 👌 . Cheers
