Great videos of this build I’m getting ready to start one myself and I sure learned a lot from your videos. Thanks for making them I’m sure I will be referencing them as I build my Constitution.
Great work there Larry, that was a fantastic piece of working skill you just showed us. Great to see the stays and the rigging coming along, that's the one piece of work that I really fear above all else, rigging is beautiful for all vessels.. makes them come alive but I'd be terrified to attempt that, photo etch is something I've come to enjoy working with.. but rigging.. I'm terrified. That really is an incredible bit of work you've done there, this is going to look spectacular when completed. Keep at it and well done mate 👍
Looking utterly amazing Larry, that work on those emergency collapsible boats is masterful, just masterful. It's quite a moment, and also.. quite.. really, really moving and sad when you install all the lifeboats and you suddenly get reminded that those are all there is, and then you get the terrible realisation that this was one of the reasons for a such a high loss of life, inadequate lifeboat numbers.. not filled correctly to full capacity at first.. it really stings, gave a chill to be honest. Great to see the mast installed, looking at the bow decks and seeing all the great work done.. looks like a true work of art. Great work there, keep at it and well done mate 👍👍
Looking fantastic Larry, your aft lifeboat and davit assembly was masterful. Great to see the same thread you used on USS Constitution, looks so incredibly like the real thing for such a project. I've done some research onto the wellin quadrant davits for a possible HMHS Britannic, according to what I've read the white paint was susceptible and easy to blacken via sooting from docking moments, like when tugboats took part in moring the ship. Most of it appeared as small streaks and tiny patches in certain areas from what I've read, might be interesting to see such sooting on the top of each davit, it's just a thought.. so.. please don't misunderstand. Your doing a truly fantastic job, it's looking like a true work of art. If your interested in knowing, I think I'm going to try and get the KMS Scharnhorst for Christmas, that way I'll have both Gneisenau and Scharnhorst side by side, Gneisenau took me over 4 months to make, so I'd like to see it'll take to do her sister. Stay safe and happy modelling mate 👍
@@LCModelShipBuilding Sweet, glad to know I was accurate and also able to help out there. Your going to make a true magnificent work of art here, your doing beautifully.. Well done mate 👍
This is going to be a beautiful build when you get it complete. Just out of curiosity, how much $ do you have in this build all together w/ P.E , resin , and kit itself ?
@@mikelritchjr5911 not including motors geez it’s gota be around $2500, add another 200 in lighting, and 3-400 in motors ESCs controller etc, then there’s all the sound set up which I haven’t even shown in the videos yet. So that probably another $2-300
Hi, I discovered ur channel by searching for high detailed titanic models and I was wondering if the original model (without extra details ka parts) does contains like lifeboats and stuff ?
Like, does the model comes with paint like revell does to apply color to the funnels and all or do u have to do it for yourself and buy paint separatly ?@@LCModelShipBuilding
@@captainjolopez it does not come with paint. It comes with a guide that is quite inaccurate. I used Titanic Honor and Glory to determine a lot of the colors but they aren’t 100% accurate either. It really was a lot of time and research doing color selection.
It's looking incredible Larry, your doing a great job.. glad to hear that you plan to do the Bismarck, that'll be a truly fantastic addition to the fleet you've made and still are making. I plan to do the Tirpitz myself.. given there's been an announcement that it'll be available for 1/200. I considered doing Bismarck in the past but went with Gneisenau.. but then again, it's all just great ambition we share isn't it? Your doing an awesome job with this thing, going to look utterly stunning when done, keep at it and happy modelling mate 👍
@@LCModelShipBuilding Great plan there Larry, that makes a lot of sense and your speaking my language, you get a bargain and you go for it well done. You plan to do the Baltic livery scheme or the scheme when she was lost? If your interested you get a great historical picture when you look at the actual images of Bismarck as she appeared at the time of her only venture, there's some good shots taken from Prinz Eugen after the battle of the Denmark straight, a great side profile shot of her captures her in all her glory. Sorry to ask such a question so soon, it's just fellow modelling passion 👍
@@joeaustin4472 no worries. I actually haven’t decided yet on the livery. I did order a couple books though. I generally try to read all about my builds before hand and during. So then I’ll make a decision once I know more. Just a habit of mine. I don’t talk a lot about the history or events on the builds but I generally have researched the ships extensively, and this one will be no different.
@@LCModelShipBuilding Oh right, thanks so much for that great reply. Just so you know, historically wise and please don't misunderstand.. I'm going by the photographs and historic information I've got my side.. ..the camo grey bow and stern shades we're in fact painted out when Bismarck sailed on Operation Rheinburg. If you see the photos taken from Prinz Eugen it shows Bismarck in a light grey scheme with silver smokestack cap. The Baltic scheme was stunning though, if your interested there's a builder called Ron Calverley and he did Bismarck as she appeared before being commissioned, his work is worth looking at 👍
@@odie6789 yes at some point. I got my self wrapped into the Radio control titanic which is almost done so I’m sure I’ll come back to finishing this up.
Fantastic work there Larry, two stacks installed and the lighting looks utterly excellent, your deck installation is also a true masterpiece of work. This is going to look magnificent when completed, when you put this thing out on the water and give it it's maiden voyage run, it's going to be mind blowing. Great work Larry, looks utterly fantastic.. keep at it and well done mate 👍
@@SaitoTheSmashGame2005 I’ve already done a few tests. Waiting on some parts. I have another motor video nearly done it now also plays music (80songs) smokes, has whistle, and engine noise
We're in no rush my friend. Please take your time and enjoy this process. One of the most rewarding things about a project is seeing how all the final pieces come together. The lifeboats looks great and love your attention to every single detail about the ship. Some get excited over the big LEGO Titanics and though they do look cool, sort of, for me I get excited over handmade ships and especially those that go into such detail in making the ships look real. I feel as though I could shrink in size and suddenly be on board the Titanic. Keep up the great work and enjoy the process like you are. It shows in your work.🥳💫⛵
Thank you. It’s coming together quite fast now since I’ve been working on a lot of the parts individually. My son did the 10k pc Titanic over the winter. Turned out pretty amazing!
@@LCModelShipBuilding C'mon. What's the worst that could happen? I'm sure you're building in 1/200 scale watertight compartments. Maybe one will flood. Maybe two! But surely - surely! - not three, or four, or five! Six is- well, six is so impossible it's not worth even considering!
@@hoilst265 I can’t imagine the disaster this thing sinking would be. I’m sure the water would not play nice with the lighting, lithium batteries etc lol
Great work on those lifeboats, the 3d printed versions make those lifeboats look all the more stunning, a long ordeal to go through but all the same.. look incredible. Honestly speaking I don't think that the lifeboats got too much dirt or weathering on them, I've seen a lot of images of RMS Olympic in the 1920s and though many of those lifeboats we're aged, they we're mostly in excellent condition, some various images of the lifeboats do show slight patches of wear and tear like tiny stains but more than ever they we're mostly pristine, yeah I wouldn't go with weathering too much in regards of the lifeboats. To think that when Olympic and Britannic come out we'll have more to work with, honestly speaking I'd imagine those would be the most challenging part of the projects in regards of working on the top deck areas. Especially if you take into account the amount of decals, messing with painting.. but with elite skills, they should be cleared beautifully, working on the launches we're challenging but fun in all honesty when I was making Gneisenau. Looking incredible Larry, great artist talent there, well done mate 👍👍
Thanks. I just ordered my winter build. Couldn’t pass up the deal. I got the 1/200 Bismark. It will also be an RC build and should be a fun one for the winter months.
@@LCModelShipBuilding Awesome.. that's going to be utterly magnificent to add to the channel, I'm still unsure wither to add any other 1/200 warships or just wait till Britannic comes out. I know that Tirpitz is on the way in 1/200 but I also know that Scharnhorst is available.. might go with her. RC for Bismarck too? Your ace my friend.. you really are, well done 😁👍
They actually aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I found that doing each side separately was the best way to go so I didn’t mess up with the decals etc.
Good start to the stacks there Larry, the 3d printed parts.. yeah.. pricey.. but non the less the best you can work with. I just really hope that these will be included with the Olympic and Britannic, though I can't see why they won't but if 3d printing parts for either the Olympic or Britannic are fewer or none.. I'm going to go insane. Yeah that's probably me being paranoid, but I really do hope such great 3d parts will be included with both Olympic and Britannic. Rumor has it there is a chance gantry davits will be 3d printed according to the old gent up the street, but that's all he's heard, rumors are always around but that's what I heard anyway. Your doing a truly fantastic job, just magnificent.. Well done, well done indeed, this is looking utterly amazing. Keep it up mate 👏👍
It's looking incredible Larry, really incredible.. your doing a truly fantastic job there. Starting to work on various areas of the boat deck and the compass platform, that's what I call true progress especially when it comes to your working of the mass jungle of wires and electrical lighting. Your handy work is truly amazing, really is.. what challenges the HMHS Britannic is going to give in regards of photo etch, various parts, possible 3d printing and possible lighting set up.. that's going to be phenomenal, let's hope all are prepared for such a challenge. If it helps, if your interested in weathering the stacks, there's various tamiya weathering products and even special tips on RU-vid which can assist in making some very realistic coal soot appearance close to the sand yellow area that sits below the black cap paint. Obviously it's each to everyone's own choice, I wouldn't go with it as I feel it would make a ship look too grimy, but the option is there. The old gent up the street from me used tiny streaks around the cap of his stacks on the 1/350 ww1 dreadnought HMS Dreadnought and looks stunning, but I don't think I could go with that. It's just a thought, please don't misunderstand.. I'm just showing my support and it's just in case you plan to weather the stacks. Well done, your doing a truly amazing job, keep at it and well done mate 👏👍
Go back to my earlier hull videos. I have it pretty well dirtied up because my thought process was 1912 all hear was coal and wood. The ship was our side for three years during the fit out/build. The superstructure was fairly clean however titanic was scheduled to be painted in NY so that alone tells you she wasn’t near as pristine as imagined in Cameron’s movie. I believe reality is the fact that’s she was considerably more dirty than people would ever think. It also adds a lot of depth and scale to the ship with having it weathered. So yes I’ll be doing weathering around the stacks as well.
@@LCModelShipBuilding Awesome plan, yeah I heard and read about that myself.. I think Titanic has this idea around her that she was immaculate but as you said she was in an era of coal smoke, and when you take into account that tugboat smoke blew onto her, it's only to be expected she was to get a bit of dirt on her. Yeah I think I must have forgotten about your earlier statements, I'm going through my own projects, I have my older sister, niece and brother in law to entertain these days, doing voluntary work and have a pet Harris Hawk to love and watch over.. I think I'm getting dementia at 31.. which I think is a medical record. Sorry about forgetting that information.. don't know what's wrong with me these days. I did some various rust with my Gneisenau around her anchors and railings which I'm glad I did do.. that was my first time doing weathering by the way. Thanks for clearing that up, really.. thanks a lot, your still doing a truly fantastic job 👍👍
Thank you. I actually went to Boston partially through the build and toured the real ship. If I had done that prior I may have done a few things differently but all and all I really enjoyed that build. Thanks for watching. Spoiler if you get to the end I still have 1-2 more videos to go that I haven’t finished yet. I got wrapped into Titanic and had to step away for a bit. But I’ll finish soon
you might want to look into " Frog " tape. It is easier to use that that blue painters tape and leaves a finer crisp edge. Also the cannons on the Constitution were never brass.
They get painted black. I meant the brass from a detail standpoint. Tape i usually only use the cheaper stuff for coverage. Usually tamiya along the actual lines. But I can’t remember what I used on this one. Was over a year ago.
Back in the old days, people thought or knew United States Marines went out on ships and wore blue coats and white pants. Maybe that's why the instructions or the pictures on the box convinced you to paint the figurines the same as what people thought or knew they were like in the old days. Thank you for this video, Captain.
@@LCModelShipBuilding Oh, but artists who were in the Marines painted pictures of the United States Marines when they were on one of the U.S.S. Wasps in the war of 1812. At least 5 ships had the name U.S.S. Wasp, so what you did is even better than you give it credit for, Brother.
Your videos continue to be a great guide to my build. I’m learning so much getting back into models at my age on this daunting model. I am up to your video 9 or 10 and have had many of the same challenges as you, some worse, some not as bad. My hull, for instance, would absolutely not come together on the top deck, even with lots of tape. I ended up having to build “side extensions” to fill the gaps. I also struggled getting the thickest thread (rope) through the eyebolts, although I figured out a method. Still waiting for the video showing you threading through the eyebolts under the lifeboats. Your mesh side guards are genius. Much better than rows of thread. Your patience and skills astound me. Thanks for documenting your build.
Thanks unfortunately when you’re building I mis speak from time to time, not on purpose. Just in the middle of doing things and it distracts from narrating and building. Thanks for the correction.
Great work there Larry, coming along beautifully.. that floatability test shows great results and success. That area of water looks so peaceful and beautiful, perfect area for floatability test and running test, would also be a great area for the ship's maiden voyage.. thankfully there's no ice around for this one, but if there's any waterbirds around best look out for those.. don't want accidents. Your doing a truly fantastic job, well done.. really well done. Looking forward to the next update, well done again mate 👏👍
Looking great Larry, that handy work with that photo etch is looking utterly amazing, for all photo etch is a challenge for even the most skilled of modellers it's truly a great set of parts to work with, makes things look all the more perfect. I've never really done much work with white paint, though I used it a bit on the launches for the Gneisenau.. but I've always wondered.. if your painting the hull of a ship in white, are you supposed to prime the surface first? Or do you just clean the surface and then apply the coats? Sorry to ask if that's a bother, it's just so I know what to do if I plan to do the HMHS Britannic. Your doing a great job with this work of art, it's looking truly amazing, keep at it Larry, your doing great. Hope both you and your son are having great father and son modelling fun together, stay safe and happy modelling mate 👍👍
With photo etch there is a primer I use. I may have showed it in one of the earlier videos but I didn’t really show painting much in the videos. It’s a clear primer. But I generally clean with isopropyl alcohol then apply primer then paint.
@@LCModelShipBuilding Oh thanks, really thanks a lot.. yeah I think maybe you did show it but.. my memory.. these days I think I'm losing my sanity.. even though I'm only 31.. God knows how I'm going to be at 50. Thanks again for that great advice.. you really helped me out.. really you have 👍👍
Thank you for your USS Constitution series. I have not built models since I was pre-teen. Now, 60 years later, I decided to build the Constitution. Your videos are helping immeasurably. I only wish my fat fingers were smaller and my skill level was bigger!
@@LCModelShipBuildingThanks for your encouragement. Practice indeed. The Constitution offers lots of that. I’ve only made a few true errors, none catastrophic, fortunately. Your tips have helped immeasurably, especially the toothpick/glue application. Reading glasses would have been nice up to this point but will be absolutely necessary for painting the figures. Note that I dread getting past the hull and into the rigging. Note also that everything takes longer when working part time. That just makes the fun last longer, I guess. Thanks again

Looking utterly magnificent Larry, great work on the bridge and the bridgewings. From what I've seen via photographs and recreations that's effectively a perfect recreation of the real thing, if you look at the colourised images of the real thing.. the work you've done is a fantastic likeness to the real one. Looks utterly incredible, that's pure quality and masterful handy work done there, well done mate.. really well done. Looking forward to the next episode, your going to have a magnificent piece of art done when this is completed. Keep at it and well done again 👏👍
Great work Larry, it's coming along beautifully indeed.. such tiny parts and difficult bits of the interior to work with.. you really are a master in the field. Your ship is looking utterly fantastic, yes it's a working progress which is slow but it results in a magnificent piece of work to look at. According to what I've heard in regards of the intended upcoming 1/200 Olympic and Britannic there's some various interior sets in mind for those, though many have said those are rumors it'd be fascinating to think that such incredible interior sets will be available.. mind you that means more money is going to be spent, but if your doing rc ships like yourself and modelboatguy.. your going to blow the minds of hundreds away with incredible handy work. I was planning to get HMHS Britannic for the future but now I've heard of the KMS Tirpitz being released for 1/200.. I'm now in two minds.. haven't put any intentions to rest but.. yeah guilty, I'm a sucker for great powerful warships 😅. Anyway.. your doing a great job, truly amazing.. keep at it, your going to have a magnificent work of art when done. Well done Larry, well done mate 👏👍
@@LCModelShipBuilding Yeah I know what you mean about that, I suppose it would be possible to go troopship mode on the Olympic.. dazzle paint and such.. but for Britannic to go full hospital ship trim would be a mind blowing result when done, either way hoever.. ..if either Olympic or even Britannic comes out sooner than we expect all I can say is, we best be sure our pocket books are 👍👍
It's looking utterly fantastic Larry, so far so good working progress is resulting in incredible success in construction and end result. I've said it before and I'll say it again.. that is some real masterful handy work, you've got the skill of a maestro to be able to get through the spaghetti maze of wires and be able to get such pure and precise detail on your interiors. The decks are looking incredible as is the hull, once all installed your going to have something stunning to look at. That was a SWEET sight when you had your vessel lit up, if you get this thing on the water or when ever on static display in low light.. it's going to look incredible. Keep it up, your doing an excellent job, well done mate 👏👍

Looks great Larry, coming along beautifully.. lighting wires and assembly looks like a challenge, it's bewildering in regards of the great progress you've made so far. It's really incredible in regards of the epic work you've done so far, I will say this.. that's masterful work in the making.. don't know how you do it but I will say this, that's pure poetry and magic in motion. You've made the real thing in miniature here, so well done mate. Looking forward to seeing this when completed but as work is underway, it's inspiring to see how your doing this thing. Well done again mate, keep it up and happy modelling 👏 👍👍
@@LCModelShipBuilding I know what you mean by spaghetti mess.. just looking at that made my eyes roll and my head split, that sort of thing is really way to difficult for me to handle, your a master in the making to be able to deal with that - honestly 👍👍
