RIO Products, manufacturer of the finest fly lines, leaders, tippet material, and flies in the world.
Over 30 years ago, after one too many fish lost to weak tippets and countless good casts that failed to present the fly the way he imagined, worldwide fly fishing bum-and our founder-Jim Vincent had had enough. His search for better lines and leaders kept bringing him back to the old axiom, if you want something done right, do it yourself. Which is exactly what he did.
In 1990, Jim and his wife, Kitty, set up shop in Idaho Falls, Idaho and started an arduous R & D process that continues to this day. RIO Products, as they called the company, started with a simple mission: Make a better connection between anglers and fish. After initial success with vastly improved leaders and tippet, RIO moved on to revolutionize fly line manufacturing and design.
RIO, Make The Connection.

Pro-tip: add a micro swivel at the leader end. Then, you aren't cutting back the polyleader when you change tippets, and you get a swivel in the mix which is good for streamer fishing.
Love the video! What sling pack are you using in this video? And is it holding the net too or is it just hanging between the pack and your back? Thank again!
How many wraps for the fluoro to wire? Also What lbs wire to what lbs fluorocarbon is recomended? Let's say i want to use lighter 15lbs wire what lbs fluorocarbon line to use then?
4 years later I’m watching. I’ve been two handed fishing now for ten years primarily Skagit and some scandi and this presentation confirms what I have learned in those 10 years about lines and leaders . You can really tell the difference when you have your rod , line and leaders in sync with the flies you’re casting. Every fly shop should provide you with this link when a person starts their adventure in two handed fishing it would be very helpful for the beginners and save them some time , money and frustration. Thanks for sharing.
We’ve had such a hot summer that fishing trout is just irresponsible. Carp and bass is the best alternative and just as much challenge and fun. Great video.
Great visual. Suggest that you emphasise two key elements. When lifting the rod you need to start slow and gradually accelerate. Most anglers who struggle will lift the rod too quickly and automatically get slack in the back cast. Secondly. The rod tip must be pulled back at the same level… horizontally… if the rod tip drops it will result in the leader hitting the water in a “bow”. To ensure the best cast the leader needs to hit the water horizontally. You are welcome
i just got into fly fishing but kinda the only big fish in my area to fish of is carp, pike, ide and asp but on the carp side of thing i have tried a few times now with the wooly bugger (weigted and unweighted) but they seem like then dont want anything to do with it imo i present the fly almost perfect with no splash but when the fly gets infront of the fish they just turn there head and swim away, i use a 2x tippet line so that isnt the problem the only problem is that this fish are heavly pressured by spin fishing soo anyone got tips?
Is there any reason to use a switch cast in place of a roll cast? I find the switch cast easier than the roll cast. Thanks for all you have given this wonderful sport.
These are a great set of knot tutorials but I don't quite believe the strength of the Perfection loop. In my, 50 year, experience it is more like 75% of the breaking strain of the line used.
So if i have a Scandi short veristip can I load this shooting line and add the Scandi line or would it be better just having this line on its own. Also with the Scandi short would a normal running line do the job instead. As these lines are quite expensive I didnt want to purchase anything more than what I needed? Thanks in advance.
I use these leaders fishing for browns all the time, they are amazing. But I attach Mono 8-12lb at the end instead of flouro and have success. I wonder what the advantages might be if I switch to flouro? The rivers I fish are small, mossy bottom water (thus dark) waters so maybe it's not an issue using heavy mono there. I'm curious however about how the streamer would potentially move differently using flouro, both in sinking and throughout the water when I manipulate the streamer. Thanks for the help!
I didn't know about turle knot and I see there is beter representation of the fly. When Simon made demonstration on the big hook I have been ready to comment it because the nilon was going from down to up in the eye of the hook. But Simon then made other demo on the real fly and then nilon have been going correctly through the eye from up to down. Why this is important? Because tippet will be under water and not standing above surface of the water film...

I am in 100% in agreement with @flyrodder68 on this line. Seriously disappointing coming from a top fly line manufacturer. It’s more than troubling. I found it borderline useless for its intent. Don’t know if what I had was a batch issue. But I’m guessing the med stiff core used in it is severely flawed. In comparison to a major competitor line on a Sage Mav it was night and day. Anyone who heads to a remote destination with just this line is in big trouble. Very surprised how this line made it to production.
Year 2 with the clear tip...here is another issue with that line..too stiff and won't come out of the water clean. It does not load either the Maverick or the r8..you guys definitely did not field test this past a casting pond..several captains agree.
Typically we don't seal the end of the line when tying a knot connection vs loop but if you want to be extra safe, a tiny dab a Aquaseal might create some more insurance. When you synch down the knot, that usually prevents any water from sneaking up but if you do seal, make sure the sealant floats, otherwise a sealant more dense than water will drag the tip down.
