This is the trick you’re looking for; Use liquid paraffin lamp oil, 1/3 cup:1lb gulf wax or candle wax and NOT more than 1/3 cup because it will make the wax runny and messy. Forget the round cotton, fill paper ramekins with cedar chips and pour the melted mixture over them and cool in freezer for a half hour. 👍🏼
I’ve just found your channel and I’m grateful for you and your shameless plugs to sharing your faith in Christ Jesus. We do a back packing canoe trip each year here in Maine and this will be my first year bringing my 9 year old son (along with a bunch of his cousins and friends). There’s 8 adults and 10 kiddos going from 9-16 years old. 34 miles, two half days of paddling, just shy of 2 miles of portage and 4 nights of iron sharpening around the campsites and camp fires. God Bless. Stay free and stay prepped.
Oh I use mine in a canoe, I am moving it to the front, using old jumper cables modified for extension I have to move it more towards the front of my canoe, because of the weight of me and the battery, my canoe became a sail😅
I have the power center, I ran into a problem, the lights showing the condition of the battery is not working, any ideas out there what the problem is?
Trudeau: You don't need an AR15 to hunt a deer. Until you are Parks Canada. Sports Shooter: You cannot hunt deer with a RPAL, because you require and Authorization to transport from your home to a sport shooting gun range, and no one is granted a back country Permit to hunt deer with an AR15. Government: You don't need a suppressor, use ear protection. Government: We don't want to hunt deer with a 30 round magazine pinned to 5 rounds. Government: Hunting from a vehicle like a helicopter is necessary. Deer hunter: shooting any game from your vehicle is illegal, especially with an AR15, with a suppressor, and a 30 round standard AR15 magazine, that should be pinned to five rounds. Government: we blasted the hell out of those deer, so what if the meat cannot be eaten. Hunter: But you shot the wrong deer.
Good question! I've never paddled the Bob 15 Special, but I do hold Nova Craft canoes in high regard. Though it's a solo boat, I'm not a huge fan of the prospector design in general. I like asymmetrical canoes with very minimal rocker for ultimate speed and efficiency on flat water. I'd consider the Bob Special for class 1 and 2 rapids if I'm paddling alone.
I accidentally ordered a 98.5 inch paddle like that, hopefully it's okay for me I got a 16 foot old town canoe , I've only used it twice and I decided to try the double blade, hopefully it works well when I get it out!
The longer the better for me! If it's shorter, you'll have to tilt it on more of an angle on each stroke so more water will pour down your shaft and into your lap.
As a rule, I'd say if you're venturing farther than a few hundred feet from shore in open sea, I'd get something larger and meant for sea travel. This kayak is perfect for smaller waters and recreation. That said, much of your success is connected to the proficiency of the kayak's occupant! Thanks for the question!
FWIW in most US states, once you mount a motor (of any kind) on a canoe you are required to register it, and carry all the appropriate/ required gear (paddle, signal device, life jackets/ throwable etc) just like any other "motorboat".. I have 2 canoes now, a 15' Grumman and a 11' Sportspal, both registered for use with motors, and 2 electric (30/40# thrust) and a 1.5hp 2 stroke, motors :) I use a Rubbermaid Action Packer tote to hold all the required stuff, plus a waterproof box for my phone and registration, that I lined the inside top edge with a pool noodle, to make it unsinkable... also doubles as a seat when I want to sit in the middle of my canoe vs the end, as I use a kayak paddle most of the time..
There is no shortage of hunters in Canada that would put that meat to good use. But that's not what this Liberal government wants. It would have been so easy to announce and open a cull hunt season, and would have been just as if not more effective, would help Canadians, and would cost much less. This government is shameful.
Good video about footwear for Canoe & kayaking. I do a lot of kayaking from may Through November if the weather is still warm. I only kayak the warmer months because I have big & very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 sz15 6E wide ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots when I was young & Flip flops 🩴 is the only footwear that will barely and I mean barely fit on my feet 🦶 because my toes are wider than the flip flops 🩴 straps. I can't wear shoes or socks because my toes are Evenly straight across & shoes are made for toes that are at a 45° Degrees angle & when I had shoes on my 4/5 toes will get crushed & hurt my feet & toes & flip-flops 🩴is the only footwear that will Allow my toes to be comfortable & Spread out comfortable. Because of this i have to kayak barefooted 👣 because it not easy at all trying to find a pair of footwear that a size 15 6 E wide in a store. I have 6 boys & they all have very wide feet 🦶 & we all go kayaking , kayak camping , kayak fishing barefooted 👣. Now when we are at camp depending on the camp site we are Either barefooted 👣 or wearing flip flops 🩴. We don't have any problems with things getting Between are toes & are feet 🦶 wearing flip flops 🩴 because we watch were we are going. I have been do this all my life since I was a lil boys so you are talking about 50 years now with no problem at all beside having very very Extremely wide feet 🦶. I was born with very very extremely wide feet 🦶 for a baby & now I am a chubby fat dude not Heavy but i am not Skinny At all. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing this video.
Thanks for sharing this information and DIY project. I have actually done something similar years ago with cardboard egg cartons and various items, like dryer lint, pine needles, pencil shavings from a crank pencil sharpener and even pieces of pine cones. Heated up wax and covered all that. I did several test burns to see what was the longest burning fire starter. I am glad I stumbled onto your video here, even if it is 2 yrs old, because I have a whole bag of those makeup remover pads that I was going to also make into fire starters. I see for a longer burn instead of one, use 3 or 4 at a time. I, like you, like DIY projects. I even made a candle mold with 100% pure silicone and corn starch so I can make candles for my UCO candle. My wife likes to melt those scent square wax cubes, and instead of letting her throw those away when it has lost the scent, I save them so I always have some wax. Again, great video, thanks for sharing and I sub'd to the channel and will be checking out more of your videos. Juddie
I have these and I've been wanting to cut them open on top and make them hold extra cargo. I would obviously retain the piece I cut out to make a water tight lid. Think that would work?
Wow - that's a tough one! I haven't even thought of what's inside. I'm guessing they are hollow, but maybe not. The best angle would be to contact Spring Creek directly to ask what's inside. If they are hollow, and if you're good with your hands, you may be able to create a hatch that has a waterproof, durable seal. If so, you've almost invented a new product!! Way to think!
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! I'm not sure what you mean when you say "...no life jackets age 3 or 7. And no adult jackets". I believe in life jackets (PFDs) for every paddler or occupant of a canoe, no matter the age. I even have one for my dog. Did I say something different in this video?
Agree this is the ideal setup! The only two things I'd add: Some of the cheaper barrels and dry bags often compromise on the straps, padding, and backpack element. If you have a ton of portages or long portages, make sure your barrels and dry bags have high quality support. Second, if you can't afford a barrel or dry bag yet but have a good backpacking pack, just line it with a heavy duty garbage bag and voila, cheap waterproof pack. Thanks for the great video and cheers to Ontario paddling.
Great video. Thanks. Just ordered that paddle off Amazon through your link. Will try it out next week up in Algonquin. Started using a double blade paddle in a tandem canoe last year and loved it. The longer paddle is what I've been looking for. Thanks again.
Hey thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated. If you're looking for a double blade for camping, fishing, general outdoors, this one is PERFECT. It's not high performance but for anything other serious, super hard-core kayak adventures, this is a great choice. Many blessings,
Interesting. It may have all these features, but it likely doesn't suit my usage. I would love to try one out, but I just bought my 9th hammock werks ago. Perhaps when I get my next contract or J.O.B. Waves from Atlantic Canada.
Have you ever tried any kind of lift assist on your vehicle with a kayak that weight? If so, and it worked, I’d love to hear about it. The Thule Hullavator Pro is not rated for anything over 75 lbs. Booo!
Good question: I have NOT tried any lift assist though I know some decent ones that exist. So far, I can do it without help so I'll save my $ until necessary! I haven't even used one so I can't comment unfortunately.
The canoe I'm using is a 16 foot Bell (now Northstar) Magic. It's 29 inches at its widest point (beam). Any tandem canoe could fit more stuff than I use, but it would have to if you have 2 people. Cheers,
Good point! I hope you're not asking that because I came across insincerely! Here's what I can tell you; no review can be more genuine than the ones I do. WHY? Because most reviews are done by people to whom a product is given, and then the company who made the product actually PAYS ON TOP of that. So, they pay to have the review (usually thousands of dollars), and they also give a free product to the reviewer (also worth a few thousand dollars potentially). With me, companies usually DO NOT give me a free product, and they DO NOT PAY me money or any other form of remuneration. So, I have no bias towards a company or product. I purchased the Hibern8 pad for full price from Amazon, and I'm as legit as they get. I hope that helps answer your concern. Thanks for watching!
In todays clown world, I imagine canoeist could be used to describe people that hate others with different canoe brands. Or canoe purists that hate other forms of watercraft. Or maybe it’s someone that hates canoes. Remember, everything is about hate and whatever -ism of the month 😂
Great review. Just got one of these used from a fellow angler here in southern Maryland. Mine is not the Adirondack one it just has the standard bench seats. Guy I bought it from designed outriggers for it with lobster trap buoys. Very cool. And yep I got a 3.5hp 4 stroke w it
I made my own bridge hammock, double layer also and with special webbing "pockets" and loops to insert my trekking poles as spreader bars. Just the hammock is 414 grams; currently working on lighter dyneema suspension and I will get inspiration from this setup for my tarp😁
Hey, thanks for the feedback! My maps come from BRMB (Back Roads Map Books) and with their free app you can see all the detail you need for a trip. There is more with the paid version, but it's not 100% necessary. Cheers,
@@ruggedoutdoorsguide9904 thanks for the reply. I saw the map in your video which showed some campsites on noganosh, where could I find a map like that?
