As a Gen-x Skinhead I can say this: Red always meant Neo-Nazi, white WP--both had to be earned. The other laces could be regional. In Baltimore yellow was Anarchy, blue was cop killer (a 15 y/o wearing blue😅) purple was fg basher, black was neutral.
You should have mentioned the Braces (suspenders).. yes I know this is an old vid, but for us Skins it was Up for casual / non Fight Mode if you will.. When they were hanging it meant Ready to go. Cheers mate.
I agree with this, I'm just going to add a few things. When Varg originally introduces himself he can be seen with a cup of water on the table where he was sitting. going off from the scene where someone in helvete offered Varg a beer and Varg said "I don't drink". And consistantly in the movie he only consumes water EXECPT the chocolate milk scene. Now this is a bit of a stretch but like milk, (sometimes) water can be seen as 'pure'. so, as you said with the corruption, I believe it's completely plausible good work :)
I know it's about 4 years late, yet I just came across this video while searching for recommendations as to where I can search for more band merch on the internet. Great suggestions on your video by the way, I didn't know about Metal Devastation until you've mentioned it. I can enlist places and websites as to where I get my band merch from with my personal experience. Such as band's official websites as well as the record labels of course, Amazon, Rockabilia (either through Amazon or the Website itself), Eyesore Merch (either through Amazon or the Website itself), Paradiso Clothing (mainly through Amazon), IndieMerch Store, Night Shift Merch, Hell's Headbangers, Gimme Metal, Merch2Rock, Value Merch, Hot Topic, Spencer's, & last but not least an underground record store from my area where I used to go to college years ago. A couple of websites for merch that I don't trust or I had a bad experience shopping from are eBay & Merchbar. Also, I haven't tried Bandcamp nor Spotify yet. Those would probably be my last resort, if I can't find specific merch anywhere else. Anyway, thanks for your share of recommendations and supporting Metal! 🤘😎
I’m So outside of this whole punk/hardcore/crust world but I’m totally digging your aesthetics! Find all this fascinating even though I don’t know any of the bands you’re referencing :)
I find that anarcho punk mainly does the vibrant spikey hair. Crust punks mainly rock dreads and skullets. Anarcho and crust punk are closely related, so I can understand the misconception.
I always thought white laces were for boneheads, but then I met a bunch latino and black trads who wore white laces...so confusing. Red is also RASH and Redskin
Here's the thing though..... I grew up as a Punk in the 1980's, and a Skinhead in the 90's, but I moved a lot to different cities in those years. The 'Lace Code' was real, but the colours varied from town to town.....and from state to state. For the most part you are correct on the colour political definitions (if they are straight laced), but there are vast grey areas, that making a list like your presenting, is complacated. E.g. 1. There was/is an anti-racist crew in my home town that sported white or red laces. Is 'Lace Code' dead? My answer to that is this: Older Punks and Skinheads in X-Gereation [aprox.] (45 to 60 year old's) , who are still active in the 'Scene' have been known to still adhere a 'Lace Code' of thier old/current social or political stance. The tradition of straght lacing Doctor Marten's as symbol of being working class, is rooted in the 1960's starting with the Mods. The straight lacing in your Doc's, meant that you were poor(working class), because it showed that your boots did not fit. The first coloured laces were white. The cops would remove laces from the boots of football hooligans, and Skinheads in the late 60's.....the Skins got smart and would carry a set of old school laces in their back pocket just in case. If you saw a Skinhead with white laces it meant they had the suss! The political stuff came years later. Yes. I wear a boot lace colour that ( in my city), has been designated as an anti-fascist statement. but It's a much deeper tradition for me. Not a fashion. It's my culture. No different than a indigenous aesthetic distinguishing what tribe are from. In my home city, I grew up in a Punk scene, where there were Wte pwr gangs, and they caused serious problems on the streets, and at our shows ...and I was once on the front lines of that , letting the nz's know they were not welcome in our scene. Is Lace Code dead? If you forgot about it, or dont care,..then yes. It was a thing. Do people younger than 'X' use Code? From what I have observed, yes. ...but it far and few between. Gen-X, ' cultural eccentrics' , Punks and Skins, don't use lace codeas much either that i know of .
I'm an old skating hardcore punk kid, till death.... White Laces meant "White Pride".. Red laces meant "you spilled blood for ypur race" or in the punk scene it meant "you're a right winged anarchist" Blue laces meant "Blue Blood/working class" it has nothing to do with cops.. working class traditional skinheads... Green meant "Irish skinhead".. traditional skinhead.. Yellow is "unity".. never understood why people used yellow, but whay ever... And Docs came with black laces, not yellow. Laces.... This could vary depending on the city... Don't trust Reddit for old school info. Just find a true old schooler..
High school in the 2000s they had lace rules, no red or blue for bloods/crips. Later went onto ban pink laces (super popular in the skate scene then) but was cause it was seen as pro gay, catholic school and all. We just wanted our laces to match our shoes, or mix match even 😂. Now that I have docs and stumbled on this I can’t believe they’re trying to revive old boomer targeting
I think most people consider Spazz one of the earlier powerviolence bands. But we're just splitting hairs at that point. Disappointed in your lack of Rudimentary Peni!
Honestly there was so many bands I wanted to put on these. I have a blue pair that I am working on and rudimentary peni is definitely going to be on there. Spazz yeah I think you are correct but still very deep in semantics
Besthoven! I have the crucified dove from one of their releases tattooed across my back. A southsider in Flosom State Prison did the outline for me for 40 soups (Ramen packets) and I smoked one of the smallest joints I have ever seen with him before he started. It was comically skinny, like a toothpick.
Awesome that you got ot as a tattoo and only costing you Ramen is so much cheaper. Granted prison time still sucks but I have a tattoo on my wrist and it cost me $300
I have Mayhem a Season in blasphemy shirt, I have 2 behemoth shirts, cradle of filth shirt, dimmu borgir patch, I want their shirt. I want more dark band shirts like Gorgoroth, Blasphemy (Canada), Carpathian Forest, Impaled Nazarene definitely on my list, Ugra-Karma shirt is what I'm aiming for mainly. Also, Mystifier from Brazil, and I know this isn't Black Metal but would love to wear an early Sepultura shirt and Dark Funeral is another I'd love to have, and how could I ever forget Immortal, Abbath, I'd love to have an Immortal shirt, early one more rather than Abbath, Emperor, Marduk (F Me Jesus). You have a sick collection man, keep it up!
