Adam! Please don't let the below essay serve as a frightening "Oh god... who's this freak.." red flag. I simply wish to send my well-wishes and thanks! I'd scoured the internet (for about 5 minutes so maybe not 'scoured') and I couldn't find a Buxton connecting social media and or email address with which to send my well-wishes. I'm sure you announce one in the podcast but was too lazy to skim through them looking... because I can't remember if you actually do or not and didn't want to waste hours searching for an email-needle in a podcast-haystack... bin...? Anyway, the story goes that some 3-4 years ago I hunted down and set up a Zoom with your fantastic Podcast Producer / Editor Seamus. I was seaking his advice on how I might get into editing / producing my own (and other) podcast series. Much to my surprise he responded to my email and a few months on we were having a lockdown Zoom call... I couldn't believe it! 3 years on and I've just released the 10th episode of my music podcast series, 'The Tune Depository', and will be hosting our 2nd Birthday live music event in Dalston next month. I wrote to Seamus, after releasing my first or second episode, to thank him way back in 2021 but I wanted to thank you personally as your podcast (and previous works with the J-Corn) has/have been a constant inspiration and driving force for me in wanting to get into Radio / Podcasting. Ever since that fateful day back in the mid-2000s when I was introduced to your XFM series (some gobbledy gook about a Jaffa Cake space ship and a Moose or Chimp in an airplane shouting "Slappy Pappy") whilst riding a secondary schooltrip bus to London. Aside from running a weekly(ish) show on my 6th form College campus back in 2010 - where I noticed that I'd taken to using a 'whispering' voice when talking about something vaguely 'naughty' (something I'd clearly lifted from the Adam & Joe / original Westminster gang dialect) I had no contact with Radio / Podcasting for another 8 years. My worklife was bizarre and disjointed, hopping from one job to the next with not much idea of what I really wanted to do in life or least how to achieve it (whilst whistfully imaging hosting my own radio show during every commute). All symptomatic of a young person desperately grappling with years-and-years' worth of exponentially compounding depression and anxiety. One unhelpful byproduct being a considerably gargantuan lack of confidence in my own abilities / authority / agency in life. I knew I had creative talent and social skills but no idea how to harness any of them to do what - seemingly - literally any of my other friends / peers were doing: successfully working in their chosen careers / chasing their dreams. Where I was absolutely stagnating, from the age of 18 right through to 25-26. The Adam Buxton podcast didn't inspire me to move to the city / nor did it find me a job in a pub in Stoke Newington (despite resenting the idea of a return to hospitality after 5 years in a very strange 'marketing' career, if I could call it that) and neither did find me my first job as a Runner in Film / Television come 2019.. but it was always there.. And now it's 2024.. and COVID and all sorts of other hellish and uncontrollable circumstances have left the industry in a particularly desperate, desolate and un-nurturing state though I've been busy... learning about myself.. and chasing that special something.. I'm pouring my all into The Tune Depot and I truly believe it's is where I'm meant to be. I've already been approached by people who want to purchase my editing / VO / DJ and Radio-Podcasting hosting skills which is an incredible feeling, especially given how small my following is and how, seemingly (to me), junior my skillset is in these fields. In just a few years I've gone from dreamer to doer - from ideas to catalogue of works - from approaching people to being apporached. And I just wanted to say thank you, really. I've had many influences but The Adam Buxton Podcast (and afforementioned previous works) has had probably the most hold over me, from my own patter and delivery (still do 'whisper' voice, it's just part of the way I speak and apparently has been since I was about 13 years old, I can't help it) to nonsense jingles, stings and silly voices layered all over an otherwise 'cool' / chinstroker / hipster-music-driven podcast series. It's like Jam / The Mighty Boosh / Flight of the Concords / Brass Eye / The Adam & Joe Show / Adam Buxton podcast meets NTS / Rinse FM / BBC 6 Music. Sort of... Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that your podcast reaches to places and inspires people in ways a-plenty - beyond even the curation of super-fun reimaginings of the 'Ramble Chat' theme. With your own creative persuits and the kind words of your unbelievably willing-to-speak-to-a-complete-stranger-with-no-credentials Producer (the same can't be said for 'The Great Benito'), you've slowly turned a Home Counties young man with an anxious and uncertain future into a considerably more confident and rounded adult (still young..) who knows for certain what they want out of life and AND has the mental tools to reach out and try for it ... and is starting to make it happen, at the ripe old age of 32. My favourite decade of life so-far. I would love to pass you the details of the series and if there's an email address I could send the information please feel free to DM me on instagram @thetunedepository Much love and professional nods of respect, Josh p.s. sorry for the essay, I just don't know how else to write but at great length and in too much detail.
There are rumors the Deck Lazer was spoted on Ooobuus Prime with Yukathroo ..and a horde of minorlings....................and by the way, Yukathroo did not disintegrate himself
Hi Adam as a massive fan of yours I have to say bug needs to be brought back, even if it is on RU-vid. Rosie is a beautiful dog and should be the co-host of bug! I also hope that this comment is being read out loud in a silly yet probably accurate voice.
I guess this wasn't long before "Adam and Joe Go Tokyo" that I used to watch when I got home after lectures that came after a day's work. That was one of the best things I ever saw on TV. The perfect pop TV for a perfect pop city. Gaijin Invasion !!
The only detail is even if Eno was in the recording, he never was the producer, the credits said "produced by Visconti and Bowie" and that's for Low, Lodger and Heores.
Excellent as always, Adam. Adam on Never mind the Buzzcocks was incredible too. Especially the commevts from YT about Dynamo the magician. They are all hilarious, or sutin. And Songs of Praise with subtitles. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious. Thoroughly enjoyed that and highly recommend. 👍
