Travel with me and my friends to weird and historic places to witness first hand the amazing places history has forgotten in America.
Some travels will be very different, some exciting, some boring, but the nostalgia, for what we have have become as a nation, will stay. Come with us on these adventures and enjoy it through a different way of traveling.
I am in no way a historian, a lot of our adventures I am seeing for the first time and by a whim, I decide to set into motion a video.
Come with me, The Mad Nomadder, Gypsy Lynn and friends to venture into America.
We will go on adventures to roadside America, desert dwellings, National Parks, and State Parks. Anywhere that will let us film to bring the fun and excitement to you!
Videos are NOT created for KIDS on this Channel!

In the late 1960's we sold off our property at 701 Penn. ave. and moved to Rivesville, and a short time later a mall was built across from the Belview Inn. And the rest of the property was wiped clean from all the water run off from the mall roof and the paved parking area. They just let it run off over the hill into Buffalo Creek. I think it was called Hills. I hope it failed.
@TheMadNomadder
@TheMadNomadder 2 дня назад
I barely remember the Hills that was there. I know where it was, but I don't know whats there now. I could be wrong, but I thought there is a grocery store and maybe a dollar general type store there now. I remember the Hecks in Fairmont. We really didn't go to Fairmont that much when I was younger. When Meadowbrook came (I do remember when that was built and there was nothing there), my folks never seemed to leave Harrison County as much.

This reminds me of "Cadillac Ranch" in Amarillo, Texas.... I noticed it when driving by on the highway back in 1996, and I turned around for a closer look, however, there was a highway barbed wire fence, like a cow fence, but since I didn't see a sign, I crossed the fence and hurried over to get a close look & a picture.

This place definitely reminded me of Cadillac Ranch too. I never thought we would end up here, its really in the middle of nowhere. We decided to hit it up on the way back home from Fort Laramie in Wyoming. I wonder how long Cadillac Ranch has been opened now....so it was closed off in 1996?

Here's a bit of video camera advice.... Don't pan, swing , zip & wiz the camera around so fast because it's not pleasant on the eyes when people try to watch what you are filming, plus, moving the camera all around so incredibly FAST doesn't give the camera a change to focus, causing blurry video recording.... Perhaps watch some other peoples youtube recordings for examples on the importance of moving the camera slowly....

@TheMadNomadder yes I last visited the pen in September of 2022. My aunt and uncle lived directly across the street from the visitors' entrance on Jefferson Avenue. Are family visits to Moundsville at least 4 times a year as a young boy and teenager were awesome. I bet I ran up the steps of the mound a thousand times as a young boy, and best of all was getting ice cream from Marshall Dairy store on the corner. It's funny that the local newspaper would print our visits in the paper....you see, we lived in Northern Virginia, and my mother worked at the Pentagon, so I guess it was a big deal for a small town like Moundsville. On my last visit to Moundsville, I took a "Woolrich" type shirt that famous serial murderer William "Holly" Griffith made for my dad back in the early 50s Holly ran the tailor shop in the prison and was so successful that he at one point was making uniforms for the WVa. State Police and prison staff. In fact, he was so successful at tailoring that he had at one point over $45,000 in his bank account. So, the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections decided to close down the tailor shop and wasn't too keen on inmates becoming wealthy while incarcerated. In the movie "Fools Parade," Jimmy Stewart's character was based on Holly Griffith, who escaped on numerous occasions and was responsible for murdering law enforcement during his capture. If you Google his name, you will see his complete biography. There is a picture of him standing on the front steps of the administration building holding his pet Jack Russell dog, and the man behind him is my great grandfather. I remember my grandmother telling me when she was a young girl that pop-pop would bring Holly home for lunch, and my great grandmother would freak out.... My great grandfather would just say..." Oh, he's ok... it's only when he breaks out that he's dangerous" I was lucky enough to have known him, and he passed away when I was 12. I took the shirt to the prison to donate it along with the original picture of him with Griffith on the front steps. Unfortunately, the person who manages the prison now was not working that day, so I was uncomfortable leaving the shirt and other items with them until I spoke to her. I finally contacted the staff supervisor, and they are excited to have these items and want to display them in the museum. I am going to visit again soon, and hopefully, one day, I'll see the items displayed in the museum.

That is fascinating. Loved hearing about this. Personally, I'm interested in crime history. We focus our vacations when we go to the old west trail. I try to focus on lawmen and the outlaws equally if we can. Going to Tombstone, AZ really made an impression on me. This year when we travel west, we are going to Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. I was surprised to find so much in Arkansas. Fort Smith area has a Lawmen Museum and that will be an adventure to learn more about Judge Issac Parker and Bass Reeves. I got a video I have yet to release on Black Jack Ketchums grave and a little bit about the history and the town of Clayton, New Mexico. Hopefully when you return they will have the items displayed. I look forward going back (I want to go back to see the Mound, it was closed by the time we did our tour of the cemetery) and seeing the items as well.
