Love this video. Respect to Paul. The only thing, most mainstream people, including myself do not carry knifes. Most knife attacks will happen when you are bare handed. Defanging the snake without a blade, I would like to see bare handed skill versus knife.
Dan Inosanto is one of the big gest frau dst ers in martial arts. His "as many arts as possible" (his words). Was designed to keep students coming in paying him money. Sc ammer.
I had these VHS tapes from Panther Productions, i miss the info in them. I was a underweight person, i trained with these tapes, made me very strong, These videos are worth their weight in gold as they say. I thank the channel here for uploading this information.
Good explanation. I do a lot of different gym stuff. For multiple things judo boxing muay Thai bjj wrestling. Dead lift different squats version's body weight pull ups sit ups push ups chin ups and other exercises assault bike mountain hiking
Even Mike Tyson couldn't hit you if you are using Dumog....I'd like to have seen Paul demonstrate that at the time (!!).... All the same, an awesome instructional vid on the subject.....
Yes this reminds me of the movie Longstreet where while training the blind man his friend challenges Bruce and he could not get a strike in because Bruce read every move he was about to make and countered and intercepted them!
Paul Vunak is a great teacher and I've learned a lot from watching his videos. That being said, 99% of the time you are NOT GOING TO HAVE A KNIFE on you if you get attacked. You are going to have to learn how to defend yourself without one. Like it or not, that means blocking, counterattacking, trapping, and disarming. All the stuff he says doesn't work, DOES work. If you have time to put a checking arm there, then you've proven that you can block a knife attack. If you have time to "counter-cut" the attacking arm, then you've proven that I could counterpunch or kick in that time instead. Where he goes "roof block" (checking arm + knife cut), that would be an outward forearm side block + front snap kick to the groin if I were unarmed. If I'm in close, I just grab you and toss you. If I'm out at range, I can kick your legs, knees, or whatever it takes to keep you at range. It's not an ideal situation to fight someone with a knife, but it's definitely possible if you know what you're doing, and it isn't irresponsible to teach people how to protect themselves when they're unarmed. Giving up is NOT an option.
Paul Vunak is one of the best on self-defence in my point of view. Everything he teaches is based in reality and experience. There are a lot of people still today who promote their style and call it self-defence and then comes a lot of bullshit, but Vunak is different.
I love Paul vunak... but his advice on grip is b.s... Saber is way safer and more accurate than hammer grip because the blade is always in line with the thumb, so you always intuitively know where it is. And for self defense purposes,a concealment grip to ice pick grip switch is the best way to keep a ready weapon in your hand in a way that you can hide in your front coat pocket while walking in dangerous areas. Your striking lanes and body mechanics may be more important, but what grip you choose to practice with definitely matters
This guy's hand speed is otherworldly. In videos where they show his technique in slow-mo, his hands are still a blur. I've never seen anything like it.
VERY GOOD VID BUT NOT MANY PEOPLE CARRY A KNIFE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES,,, WOULD LIKE TO SEE A VID ON REALISTIC DEFENCE IF YOU HAVE NO KNIFE BUT R GETTING ATTACKED BY ONE
Had this series when it came out, have done and still do the magic marker thing , or spar with them. The unique thing about knives as a weapon besides requiring no strength , or even training , is they don't even require a person to do serious damage. I've cut myself bad enough to need stitches from a knife just sitting in a sink. and 4x with a putty knife in my back pocket at work. So imagine somebody with will and intention coming at you with one. And thats assuming you even get to see them before you feel them.
You know, this man is a true master. Very rarely do you see someone these days who takes encapsulates the idiom of a fighter practising a single move 10,000 times, but he does. No BS here, just a few simple, to the point, effective techniques, that one can hone to perfection.
Great stuff, but I can't help thinking... the more urgent fighting technique desperately needed, is the Art of keeping people who are into knife fighting out of your country.
(Mousekeeter script. I sit with masters. An kneel before them. My daughter in the near future will come to you an connection with a cloak with colours. Modern defence training weapons are in the cloak. She will ask for advise for more info about your teachings. She will not have much time. Only to enter the world of masters.
