I just got internet back after hurricane Milton (live in Tampa Bay FL) so couldn't answer before! Raw umber dark , ultramarine blue and alizarin crimson.
Hey Matt, quick question. The hole is probably 4mm in diameter in my painting. I varnished this painting in June..I’m the artist of this particular piece. How big should I cut the canvas piece? The canvas I will use is from the same manufacturer and is the same in weight. I have the original oil paint that I used, and I’m thankful that is the case. Do I have to remove the varnish? I want this repair to last as long as possible without diminishing the worth of the painting. How long should I wait to varnish that hole once it’s dry? Will the new layer of varnish be noticeable?
Hi Marie, I would make the canvas patch at least double the size of the hole, so you can have it overlap on all sides. As far as removing varnish, you may need to. I don’t have a lot of experience with oils, however, so I can’t say for sure. Hope this helps!

"He Goes Before Me", is a beautiful painting. Is it synchronicity or serendipity that the man that you painted this painting for is the person that helped to warm your studio for you during the cold days of the seasons? So meaningful to me. Loved your prayer before you started your painting also.
Congratulations on your first 10,000 subscribers. I believe the answer is that your ‘go to’ recipe for black is raw umber dark, ultramarine blue, and alizarin crimson.
@@fineartbymattphilleo I would have liked to join but I was working. I’m probably going to buy your course anyway. I’ve watched your videos on RU-vid and enjoy them, but I would like to work on one project with instruction on the glazing technique from start to finish.
Are the colors that you use for red comparable with watercolor colors? If so what are the color names you used for the red hair. I’m learning how to paint but need these shades to create a piece for my deceased child, this is her hair color.
I am not super familiar with watercolors so I’m not sure. Sorry. I am an acrylics man. :) I used raw umber dark, ultramarine blue, Alizarine crimson, burnt sienna, raw sienna, organic orange, Indian yellow and titanium white. Of course the amount and mixture of each depends on what part of the hair I’m painting. Hope that helps
I’ve only just now discovered your RU-vid channel and, even though I’ve been painting for many years, I’ve still found that there’s always something new to learn. I’m not sure what colors you are using for your black. What I use is Raw Umber, Alizarin Crimson and Pthalo Blue.
Raw umber dark, alizarin crimson, and ultramarine blue. I just want to congratulate you on this milestone. I was attracted to your channel when I saw you praying over your work. I thought it was awesome to implement God in everything you do. I hope you continue to grow in every aspect of your life. Have a blessed day!

Well done in reaching 10000 subscribers you work so hard are so good at what you do and by the way, ivory black is not the darkest color you can get. You’ll get an even deeper black with dioxazine purple, aliazarine crimson, phthalo blue and raw umber dark mixed together.
Thank you for the kind words! You are exactly right. Ivory black isn’t the darkest. Diox violet is probably the darkest pigment you can get. Exactly right. I use it sometimes for extra punch in my high contrast paintings.
Black mix: Raw Umber Dark, Ultramarine Blue, a little white.. I've hoped to take your class(es) for such a long time but love and appreciate your incredible content here on your RU-vid channel, thank you!
raw umber dark, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson. I am already a member of your painting site - just wanted to see if I was right! Thank you, Matt, for your wonderful classes!
Hi Linda, CONGRATULATIONS! You were the first person to get the correct answer! You win! I'll be contacting you soon to make arrangements to give you access to the class.
