As much as I’d do *insert highly illegal and morally outrageous act here* to have Mark and Lard back? It’d never be quite the same. Two funny, funny lads, who didn’t care too much and just tried to make each other laugh. Their show gone before it’s time. Dooming Radio One to irrelevance and Chris Moyles desperately trying to persuade us he was cool. An era I’m stoked to have been part of.
Mark Radcliffe played the session version of "Pray for Rain" on his Radio 1 show in January 1997, and I've been looking for this ever since. Thank you!
I know this is unrelated to this video, but is there any possible way you can upload your mix of smile to dropbox or something so I can listen to it personally. I cannot unhear the way you layed the album out, it was just so right, it hit me emotionally way different than any other. Anywho, thank you.
Dave, I really hope we get a re-upload of the SMiLE fan remix you had up a long while ago. I listened to that nearly every day and then it got taken down. :(
DIGITAL VHS Ahhhh what a bummer! There were a couple other remixes I listened to instead and they were taken down as well. The one Dave put up was absolutely perfect though - everything blended so well together.
email me at megalansmusic @ gmail.com . RU-vid is annoying me now. its technically a remix, it shouldn't get taken down so easily as its commercially unavailable.
Here are some thoughts: Based on Brian's piano demo of Heroes and Villains, I think its clear that at one point the intention was to have a "Barnyard Suite" incorporated into the song for the album. I believe that after the "children were raised" and dum dum dum ("flutter tone" as Brian called it), the sequence would be : I'm In Great Shape - Barnyard - Old Master Painter/Sunshine - followed by the fade out for Heroes and Villains which I believe was paired with You Are My Sunshine at one point, which further supports this theory. You can hear my entire vision for the album here: soundcloud.com/ian-olsen-4/smile-final-mix
I kept listening because I kept wondering what was going to happen next, plus more of the great sonic ventures. I felt like I was on a journey with Brian Wilson and the whole group. This as for me a feeling of going on an adventure. Only briefly I thought of Sergeant Pepper and some brief influence the BB possibly had on the Beatles and vice versa. Only around or after 42 minutes I felt there was a short session that was too experimental for me, yet being so is well worth it, to take risks, and that's what an adventure is like. I think any time in history this could have been released. I don't know to what extent this was "successful" and made enough profit to pay for itself and Brian Wilson and the band. Why did Mike Love resist the release of this? At least I read that had happened. Seems strange. "Journey of Smiles". I have to listen to all the releases of what I read is 90 hours of material. I think Brian has a lot to go on excursions into his genius with and come up with more releases as like film editing it's the juxtapositions as I'm sure he well knows is like a painting, and too like a film, like poetry...

From the time I could distinguish the different Wilson voices Carl was my favourite. Brian's Smile album might be technically better but this album has two things that Brian's presentation lacks: the late Carl's exquisite voice and the youthful exuberant sound of the Beach Boys. That sound has never been reproduced or equalled and I doubt if it ever could be.
