Would you do a video on the C500 vs C400? Why did you get the C400? Even if your review is just on how it feels or practical reasons that would be very helpful.

I wouldn't say 16mp is low megapixel. We live in an age where most content is consumed on screens where even 8mp photo's are more than sufficient. How many people still want big prints and do you really need the very high dpi for the bigger prints that are looked at from a reasonable distance? I think 50mp is nice when you need to do a lot of cropping, but then you might just as wel get a body with a smaller sensor and buy lighter lenses and save some money. I still use a Nikon D3s (12mp) and the resolution is more than enough.

@visualimagingsolutions 4 дня назад
The D3S is a great camera! I agree with you completely. I have not had the need to move to the higher resolution cameras beyond the Canon 5D Mark IV yet. For many things, I think the lower resolution 1D cameras, similar to your D3S, are perfectly capable tools.

I shoot RAW as Pro photographer for me Pixels DO matter my Sony A1 ( I have 2 of these) and they support 50mp - depends on how professional you need large scale prints to look when on an 8ft x 6ft canvas
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 4 дня назад
There definitely are use cases for high resolution sensors like the one you mentioned. The 100 mp Fuji and Hasselblad cameras are very compelling. A few years ago we had a shoot for a company that resulted in that client printing a 60-foot banner for the side of their warehouse promoting a hiring event -- we shot the image for the banner with a 5D Mark IV at 30 megapixels. Client was happy and it turned out great.

Did you adjust the luminence value on the canon, that's a necessary step for exterior filming on most days.
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 6 дней назад
No, as this was a "worst case scenario" non-scientific test. We're usually using the cameras under controlled light setups.

I have a wool batt that my great grandmother had made from the wool of a sheep she raised when she was 11. Her mother and herself carded the wool themselves at home. In the 1930's, she started bringing it to Courtney to be re-carded when she made a new quilt. She gave two batts to my mother, hers, and the one her sister had also had from her own sheep. The wool was harvested from their sheep in 1900. My mother had the wool re-carded two more times at Courtney for new quilts. She used the wool from the sisters wool to replenish what is lost in carding. In about 1985, she had it done one last time as the fibers were getting too short to have it done again and she didn't have any extra wool left from the other batt. She gave them to me and I still have them in storage, safe from moths. I hate to use them in a quilt because they can't be done again and if someone washes the quilt, well, you know what happens then, it shrinks and it would be felted beyond repair. I can't tell you how many quilt batts my mother bought there over the years. She made queen size comforters for years. The last one she made was for me in 1990. The batt of course was from Courtney.

your October Challenge sounds like fun. I need a Photo Amigo to bounce this off of and keep me going. A photo a day is tough all alone. I would likely go for digital so I could play with the picture every day. With film I would be inclined to shoot the roll all through the month before I processed it. Should have put your cameras and lenses on pieces of paper and done a blind fish bowl draw. The suspense would have been fun. I will be watching for your videos!

Thanks for pointing out this interesting bit of history. According to the International Hydropower Association, "The world's first hydroelectric project was used to power a single lamp in the Cragside country house in Northumberland, England, in 1878." Relevant to the plant in Appleton, Wisconsin, the IHA continues: "Four years later, the first plant to serve a system of private and commercial customers was opened in Wisconsin, USA...." [Source: www.hydropower.org/iha/discover-history-of-hydropower ] The American Society of Mechanical Engineers calls the Edison plant in Appleton the "first Edison hydroelectric central station." According to ASME: "The plant began operation only twenty-six days after Thomas Edison's first steam plant began operating on Pearl Street in New York. On September 30, 1882, an Edison "K" type dynamo produced electricity from a water-powered turbine to light three buildings (two paper mills and the H.J. Rogers home), at rate of about 12 1/2 kilowatts. It is the first Edison hydroelectric central station to serve a system of private and commercial customers in North America. The story of its development provides keen insight into the nation's first experiences with the electric light." @Visual Imaging Solutions I may be misinformed, but the first commercial hydro plant was in grand rapids.1880/ 1956.gr light and power became consumers energy today. Also the croton/ hardy dams on the Muskegon River were the largest energy project of the era.

Beautiful footage and the XF300 is a pretty amazing camera isn't it. The 5D looks a little green to my eye. How was white balance handled? Did all three cameras have a custom white balance or were they balanced in post? Or were they left alone to show what the footage looks like right from the camera?
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 6 лет назад
Thanks! Glad you like it! I agree, I love the XF300. It's a brilliant camera. Takes some work to get the best out of it, but the work is worth it. I love how it gives you complete control over every aspect of the image. Even with all the great new cameras coming out these days, I don't feel like there's any pressure to replace the XF. I expect to use it for many years yet. So, for white balance, I believe I set all three cameras to 4300 K. I wanted to keep this simple, so that was all that was done. Nothing in post, either.

"Scaled to 4k" is NOT 4k. Stop misleading people. Thumbs down.
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 6 лет назад
Of course it's not the same. If it was the same, there would be no point in a comparison.
@DoubleGauss
@DoubleGauss 6 лет назад
You are not gaining anything by scaling 2k to 4k. It looks exactly the same. It's the same as comparing 2k to 4k.
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 6 лет назад
Exactly! I agree. Will 2k suffice or not? Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. Of course, not all 2k is created equal. And not all 4k is created equal. There are many variables.
@AdamKontras
@AdamKontras 6 лет назад
The only way to compare these cameras is to scale the cameras that aren't capable of 4K UP to 4k. You wouldn't downscale the XC10... it's not misleading, it's a comparison.

@red2000films
@red2000films 7 лет назад
I think the XF300 looks just as sharp as the XC10. I couldn't see much difference between the XC10 and the XF300. The 5D renders colours quite differently. The cat doesn't look very natural on the 5D, the colours are more harsher and is more crushed, so the 5D isn't my favourite. I loved it how your cat kept opening his mouth in the XC10 shot, he looked really funny!
