I had a 2001 WS6 6-spd. Corsa Cat Back, free flow cats, Shorty headers, and a tune, with 355 315 nittos, This car beat cars that ran 11:8’s in a 1/4 mile, from a roll in first gear, anything that ran 12’s in a 1/4 mile, I would gap by 2-3 car car links . 1-4th gear, they taught I was spraying NOS.. Funniest car I ever owned ..
My 1999 Trans am ran 6 speed ran 12.88 @110 dead stock back in 2003 when I bought it. Gears, air lid and cat back it went 12.23@114. Still have hit....although it's way faster now....
I had a 2000 Trans Am, WS6, automatic transmission, the car ran a 13:21 ET. I bought the car new and traded it in on an Audi A8 in 2002. I miss the Trans Am !
It's really sad that Ford didn't put out a Mustang GT that matched this until 2011. I say that as someone who has always had Mustangs. Ford REALLY fucked this whole thing up, but didn't care because the Mustang outsold both the Camaro and Firebird combined. What a world.
Never understood why the mustang was outselling these. The f bodies handled better, were faster, more powerful and way more stylish. The marketing was just right for the mustang I guess.
Firehawks were severely underrated, as the WS6 was... GM couldnt have a car that could beat the Corvette of same year that costs 1/3 less or even more of a monetary difference... Remember the 1992? yeah way back then...The Stock SLP non aspirated Firehawks bought right out of dealers show room, Ran 0 to 60 in 4.6 sec with no mods and had a 1/4 of 13 flat or below... Even this vid has the 2001 0 to 60 at 5.4 when we all know from watching them at the track they are closer to 5.0 to 60 and 13.4's on 1/4 bone stock WS6's not even the Firehawk's upgrade
The 10th anniverary should have been 2002. Yeah I know 1992-2001 is 10 actual model years but the way most people count it they could have called it 1992-2002 and then the 10th anniv would have also been the last year of the F-bodies, making it even more special. As it were, they didn't sell that great as most collector minded people waited until 2002 to see what kind of annniversary package GM would offer. I started to buy a 10th but waited for the last year myself even though I loved the black/gold scheme. Nonetheless all Firehawks are awesome!
4:17 I think the driver missed a gear or two... sounded like the RPMs dropped from around 5,000 to 3,000. I wonder if he went from 1st to 4th instead of to 2nd...
I’m shocked they never added corvette brakes to these cars with this price range. The swap is extremely easy and there was no reason for GM not to do it. It’s just examples of GMs cheapness always haunting them.
