i shaved my head at military school, and i was so used to that already it wasn't really hard for me to just... do it again lol. I do like keeping it short though
Hello! I grew up with Hungarian as a minority language in my home. Have you considered girl scouts for her? My brother and I were involved for many years and made friends around the world. You'd be surprised how active the Hungarian scouts community is! There's a community in Toronto and Hamilton that I know of
Consider how long it took you to learn English well. Have faith that she’ll take an interest in her (and yours too of course) culture, heritage and language on her own. You could implement movies and shows from your childhood, I’m sure that would help. Just keep being proud to be Hungarian, and she’ll be proud to be Hungarian and Canadian too!
I am in the same situation like you, the only difference is that I am the Mom who speaks minority language. My kid has a real strong parental preference when I spoke my language to her. I gave up earlier than you although I really admire you sticking to OPOL for so long. Really looking forward to seeing your bilingual journey! Thank you for sharing the difference voice on OPOL on RU-vid, and making me feel I am not alone!
It sounds like you need to start incorporating explicit language learning tactics. It wasn't that she didn't understand you, it was that she did not have the vocabulary herself to respond to you. There are so many resources on RU-vid and on the internet for methods you can use, but just know that every year she grows it will be more difficult for her to learn to speak Hungarian fluently. A few things you can start with are more Hungarian shows and songs, even when she's not with you, Hungarian play dates, more Hungarian books signs and posters around the house, and if she speaks to you in English when you are speaking to her in Hungarian, rephrase what she said into Hungarian.
I've done shaving as much as possible and systems.. Systems vary wildly and some looked very good.. By far the best for me was shaving and muscling up, dressing up, and again, my best look for sure. Are hair systems all bad for all, F no. But it wasn't great for me.
When you use a lace system, you really shouldn’t use the glue. Tape is the way to go. Now you can use an ultra thin skin hair system with the glue and it would work nicely. I have been using the ultra thin skin system with the Ghostbond glue and have no issues cleaning it or even sweating.
You could talk to her sometimes in English, minority of times but sometimes I think it’s ok…I’m in the same position and sometimes it’s just logical for me to speak Spanish even though im Slovakian…in cases when I’m out with my son and surrounded by other Spanish…most of the time I speak Slovakian like 90% but sometimes it’s just makes sense to talk both languages…it shouldn’t be black and white
I know this was posted long ago, but for you noob's here's my advise: Umm, I've been a wearer since the 1970's and so I've seen quite the evolution of various systems and their attachment methods. Firstly, whomever you went to may have applied your system into wet glue? I don't know for a fact of course but the amount of residue you have on the system is profound. Additionally, she may have applied glue to the system base itself (that's a No-No on LACE systems) and that would definitely account for the mess. I can tell you that I personally never have seen anyone glue a LACE system on that way. Usually a lace system is taped all the way around the perimeter ONLY and ONLY the front is glued (minimally) to the scalp. In fact the glue is applied to the scalp only and allowed to dry. The LACE front is then pressed into the dried glue on your scalp. Never apply glue to the LACE, period. As you say, the glue migrates though the lace and into the hair. this will sometimes happen on the front if you're in a hurry and press your front into the glue before it's dry. If only the front is glued it's not really much of a problem. It can be cleaned. If you do what I saw in this video then yes, you're going to have quite the problem.
We just discovered Justin Time, did the first two eps with our just-turned 5-year old boy. After a year of Paw Patrol addiction this is the first alternative show he's watched full episodes for.
It is very difficult if a child is not exposed to the language enough. English is spoken all around her - but Hungarian is not. I am trying to teach my son German. He's already 9 and when he was younger it just did not work out. I still speak English with him but add a lot of German. If he doesn't understand it I will translate for him.
Do you should use a water-based glue like got to be glued no it won't last for 2 weeks but it's so easy to get out of your hair and wash off it will hold your hair easily for 3 or 4 days That's really as long as you should be wearing one of these things in my opinion without a rest
I’m curious if Alyssa ever speaks Hungarian to your kiddos too? Even just a few words here and there. Of course I know not everyone is comfortable with that but I was curious if it’s something you ever considered, that way the children see more people in their Canadian world speaking Hungarian (again, even if it’s just you using sentences but she says a few phrases she’s memorized or a specific vocabulary words).
I’m so grateful for you talking about this. I’ve nannied with families who do OPOL and I have noticed a lot of distance and difficulty for the minority language parent. The lack of variety of minority language speakers around a child really affect them, when the child isn’t hearing the minority language from multiple people. I’m so thankful that you responded to her in a loving way without giving up on the language entirely. This is so encouraging! It is incredibly hard. It is a long journey.
Another form of teaching minority languages naturally is called “Time and Place,” which it sounds like you are currently doing! (Bath time, books, etc.) Sometimes this is helpful because the child still builds a relationship with you securely but also understands that the expectation is to learn the minority language. I look forward to hearing more about how it goes for you!
You never got a good style (cut) in that unit you wore. It was too long and shaggy and undefined. And you have good hair on side and back to support a good cut. Sad to see a so-so result when it could have been great.
I was lucky, both my parents spoke Hungarian, as did all my cousins, aunts and uncles and there was a Hungarian community. Growing up in Canada, I'm not as fluent as I would like to be, I used to go to Hungary in the summer and my comprehension improved vastly. I love the fact that I have an extra language, Hungary is such a beautiful country with so many beautiful traditions. As my mother said, every language you speak is an asset. Don't give up, trust me, she will thank you when she is older.
Oh wow. Put it back on! You look 20 yrs younger with it on. Heres your problem...Dont use lace. Its that simple. Your problem started there with all that glue etc. Me, I have a poly base and not the thinnest. I use tape. Each side and front and back about 2" long. I take it off at night to sleep. Morning comes and all i do is spray my head literally with a hand sanitizer. And put it back on. I use the same tape for a good 7-10 days and if i wanted to i can keep it on longer. This crap about having to scrub your head, use that glue all over your head and you see how yours was is ridiculous. Dude go back to using the same hairpiece first letting your sides grow and live a handsome life
But but but "Chase is on the case!!!" 🤣 Hahaha. And also "Ready for action Ryder sir!" Lol... The movies are ok enough, that is all we watch here, we're not getting any of the products... Good recommendation alts for sure 🎉
