Please recommend other than the Boya By-K4 because it is already sold out on the market, are there any other adapters besides the By-K4 that are compatible with the DJI Osmo Action 3, for wireless mic use?
I just bought my ZV-E10 and I'm looking for a good microphone set up to go with it. Two years later, would you still recommend this microphone, or would you suggest a newer version of the mic? Loved your video!
I've tried the ZOOM AM7 and it works but... The fit isn't good if you're looking to plug it directly into the Action 4. I had to use a small USB-C dongle extension. But more importantly, IMO the AM7 doesn't sound great. While the form factor seems like it would be ideal for a streamlined Action 4 stereo recording set up, it just doesn't work out as they weren't designed to go together. You might be better off with an H1essential and running the USB-C out to the Action 4 while recording on the device itself.
@@WayneRECs Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I already own an older H2 which also can do 360 and MS recordings and sounds great but was hoping a plugin USB mic would be a more compact solution. Checking some more videos, I was starting to the think the AM7 doesn't live up to the Zoom quality. I bought the Q2n-4k a while ago: it sounds very decent and so is the video quality - if you bought it 10 years ago! Not up to par with 2024 anymore. So I decided to get the Action 4 and a separate mic. The smaller cardioid action/USB-C mics seem quite hit and miss though. I was also checking out the Sennheiser MKE200 and just replied to another vid that after hearing several sound comparisons, I don't care for the sound: too hollow and shrill to me. The cheap Boya EUR/USD 30 on Amazon even sounded better to me. I can edit in post but prefer the best material to start with. Do you happen to have a better recommendation?
If you power the zoom m3 with a USB C long chord that works as an antenna and you will pick up RF noise! If you power the m3 through internal batteries and not through USB C cable while recording then there will be no RF noise.
Thx for the video mate. I own both of them, and still don;t get one thing,, for some reason MKE200 produces much more Noise than Rode... I've followed your instructions - to set Camera Gain to minimun... Well, even i set it to very low level.. it is still Noisy ... that makes that Mic useles.. :( Rode is way better
Can I use VXLR+ adapter for ANY microphone that has 3.5mm plug? I mean, if a mic needs 3-5v (plug-in power), or don't need any kind of conversion...does it also work in both cases?
float recording does for audio what HDR does for photography. Really, there's no reason not to use float32 for everything these days, but it will take a while for the industry to move on from integer formats.
Picked up the same battery door off of eBay and noticed this too late. If I may ask, when I go and try this myself, are you filing for depth or are you filing the edges of the lip to fit that smaller insert? It’s kinda hard to tell in the video. Appreciate any advice!
Ultra Like!. Weird thing that in a lot of videos, there was told opposite. That Mic level should be set as minimun as could. But camera level should be higher cause it will help external mic to process audio sound.. But doing that i was experiencing exact thingy that you've shown - The noise, that prompted me to put volume to minimum at the post... Thx Mate, god bless !
They all sounded highly compromised to whatever mic you used to record the video. Is this considered acceptable for a lavalier? Would they sound better with a dedicated lav mic?
USB-C mics will work with the exceptions being those designed for specific cameras. If you have a BOYA BY-DM100, there are 2 different versions, a generic USB-C & the OP version designed specifically for the Osmo Pocket. The OP will not work with the Action 4.
Hi Wayne! btw, awesome videos as usual! Just want to ask if you ever tried the DJI Action 3.5mm Audio Adapter with DJI Action 3? Does the mic and charging port work simultaneously?
FYI - the generic version - I returned mine, the 'C' jack - the metal neck, was too short and it kept falling out, also b/c it was too short the camera couldn't detect it.
Thank you! I stumbled across this video as I was looking at small discrete microphones for impromptu interviews! This looks clean and professional without being weird or intrusive. I have added this tool my audio kit now!✊🏾👊🏾✊🏾
Awesome! I am just starting vlogging...how ever when I have my purple panda lav mic on my dji, I get some crazy weird distortion, even with the Dji at -12dB on the mic input. I am using a Google Usb C to headphone plug - after watching this video I am hoping using a USB C to TRS cable will resolve the issue!
I'm trying to get better audio for my RU-vid Channel. I record my race car in a VERY loud track environment, while I'm trying to record my commentary simultaneously. At first, I just used the iPhone mic, and you couldn't hear me talking. Then, I bought the Comica Vimo S, plug and play wireless lavaliere mics, which work great at normal dB ranges, but get clipped and distorted pretty quickly when the cars erupt engine noise at the Green Flag launches. I'm on a small budget, and trying to get the best of both worlds where the end-viewer can hear the car audio, but can also hear me commentating. I was told to look for a mic with a 32-bit float, but I really can't afford to get this wrong in both time and money. Please provide any suggestions as to what would be best, and what setup would help me accomplish my goals! Feel free to watch some of my videos to provide feedback in my comments as well. Thanks!
Hi, I use Sony EZV10 as weil. But it seems like the Camera does not Connect with my RODE Video Micro 2 since there is NO Adio Sound at all when I set the Camera Audio to Level 4. maybe you can help me out ?
When you use a ADC such as the BOYA BY-K4, do you sill loose some audio details from the mic because of the analog to digital conversion? Hence best to get a smart mic sennheiser XS to avoid the conversion, as you've recommended beore?
The way the Action audio input works, any mic connected has to go through that analog to digital conversion before entering the camera. The Sennheiser XS lav does that internally. So it's really a question about which companies ADC is better. This is part of the reason why some USB-C lav mics sound better than others. Aside from different capsule components, there's also different circuitry. Would a Sennheiser product sound cleaner than a BOYA product? Maybe. Would the average person listening be able to hear an audible difference? Probably not. Additionally, the benefit of the XS lav is that there is one less point of failure or connection.
Thanks for the video. Do you know if I can connect directly a rode wireless me receiver to a dji action 4 using the usb-c to usb-c cable included in the rode kit? Thank you
Anyone here reading this can sponsor me one hard drive and one Zoom M3 to help me work on my first book and also level up my RU-vid video? I will craft a logo of your needs in return, I tried to seek for logo design work but can't land any, if you can help out, I will be really appreciated, please let me know if it's possible! :-)
Hi Wayne, Any recommendation for a mic, for creatiing e-biking videos with a OA4 with a chest mount and a lav mic? Be it in the city or nature. What lav mic would you recommend? I'm a beginner to audio, but looking for some street ambience and a clear voice recording.
I like using the Sennheiser XS lav (USB-C version) with my Action 4. Plugs directly into the camera, no adapters needed. It's less sensitive than some other lavs so less prone to clipping in you have it close to your mouth and I think it's only ~$60.
@WayneRECs thank you for recommendation. And if one would also want to record ambient noise, of traffic, nature etc. Would the XS mic pick that up when close to ones face. Or could one record a second channel ambient noise somehow with a second mic? Can action 4 record multiple audio channels? Maybe a sound recorder would be a good option for ambient sound?
Sorry I may have missed the information, but did you sometime ago, talk about a single cable going from the camera to an external microphone Thanks Much appreciated
just wondering .. is it beneficial to supply power (just the power) from USB Charger or Power Bank to the USB-C port on the microphone while its working with the camera through 3.5mm jack? My concern is that I want to set the preamp on my camera to the lowest possible, but since this mic doesnt have a battery.. meaning that i cannot turn the settings down to the lowest. I know that I can plug it into a computer and use the software there while still outputting the signal through 3.5mm to the camera. but what if i just plug in the power from DC charger to the microphone, will it provides power for the mic so i can lower the gain from my camera preamps? Just trying to avoid using computer or smartphone here.
Great video mate! I liked how you talked about some youtubers not having the sound experience as that described me perfectly! I can't hear the hiss so i'll probably give this mic a go unless something better has come out from the sony range since your video?
Newbie here. I bought a Zoom F3 not knowing what I was getting into. I sample tested with a cavalier mic and placed the file in Premiere pro. The sound is coming out of one speaker only. I switched the settings from stereo to mono and vice versa and still only have sound in one speaker. Is it possible to get sound from both speakers using one microphone with the F3? Thanks for the video. I like the table top set up.
The F3's Mono & Stereo recording modes cannot be configured to what you're looking for. If you've connected a single lav into CH1, in Mono mode, you will record a single mono track. If you turn on CH2 as well, you will record 2 separate mono tracks. In Stereo mode, whatever is plugged into CH1 will be recorded to the L track of a stereo file and CH2 will be the R track. Most likely what you'll need to do is to convert your Mono recording to Stereo in Premiere like in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3aPXfEoSaP8.htmlsi=c0AAHF3u4O7pKd4P&t=26
@@WayneRECs Thank you for the video link. So simple. But it's impossible to know what you don't know. I didn't know but I do now. Thanks again, brother. Greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond and sharing your knowledge.
I recently have been thinking of doing something like this as an alternative to the Antlion Modmic. Instead of getting a Modmic only for pc, you can use the wireless mics for other purposes haha
Im using Dji mic 2 with my action 4 to record some motovlogging, its sounds okay ish when things is not going to fast. I experience audio clipping all the time tho. (I have the mic in my backpack yo record the exhaust.)
In the specifications of the Rode VXLR Pro adapter, I read that the plug-in power supply is 4 Volts when the phantom power supply is 24 Volts and 48 Volts. It turns out that the Rode VXLR PRO adapter, connected to the Zoom F3 audio recorder, converts a phantom power supply of 12-48 Volts to a voltage of 4 Volts and transmits it to the Rode Lavalier Go lavalier microphone. Does this mean that in such cases it will not matter whether I set up a phantom power supply of 24 Volts or 48 Volts in the settings of the Zoom F3 audio recorder? After all, the adapter will still convert to 4 Volts, which is necessary for a lapel microphone? Most importantly, will the adapter prevent the Rode Lavalier Go Lavalier microphone from breaking (burning) due to high voltage? One point is unclear to me. They write that first you need to attach a lapel microphone to the Zoom F3 audio recorder, and then install 48 Volt phantom power in the Zoom F3 settings. Otherwise, the lavalier microphone will burn out. And doesn't the Rode VXLR Pro adapter convert 48 Volts to 4 Volts, despite the fact that before or after connecting the lapel microphone, I installed phantom power in the Zoom F3 audio recorder?
