Let me offer a fair critique of the images included in the 5 min overview. All the key actors in images are white men, with one exception Gandhi. Though the voiceover by Linda Elders is a woman, the nonverbal and visual content points viewers to men's power as critical thinkers. Why are all the models male. The inclusion of a Phyllis Wheatley for intellectual courage or Malala would do just fine. And most of the examples are of a certain older generation. If we want to be inclusive, age and disability/ability representation matters too. I love Richard Paul and Linda Elders work and their channel of content. I just wish people would notice who they omit as the give their examples and illustrations that are so pivotal to both learning about metacognition or critical thinking and to doing the practice and seeing representations of different people. Critical thinking can be exemplified when a younger child is duped into trading a big nickel for a little dime. Ageism, racism, heterosexism, Islamophobia, class and rank, and more are undercut when all the images are white or nonwhite, English-speaking or dominant culture speaking, males. There's my offer of intellectual courage! Even on this educational video, I'm bound to be disrespected for calling attention to what should be obvious to a 21st century citizen and critical thinker today on RU-vid. AND I'll likely use this video in my undergrad courses.
