Max Payne 3 was my childhood game, I only got to play Max Payne 1 and 2 when I got steam as a teen. I always loved 3, it had great gameplay, a good weapon sandbox despite the new limitation on weapons, and it had an amazing soundtrack, I still listen to HEALTH on a daily basis today and own loads of their merch. 3 Also had some pretty good levels, like the flashbacks, the police precinct mission, and the airport mission, but they felt kinda short and very restrictive. I also feel like Max Payne 3's writing and tone don't jive well with the original 2, it has all the edge of the older games and tries to capture the grit, but it doesn't feel as noir or nuanced as the originals' writing, some of the setups have pretty weak or ridiculous payoffs (like the pasos twist,) and max in 3 feels like an overly serious and sad caricature of the original character written by somebody who doesn't actually get the feel that made max payne himself, it also feels silly that he basically falls for nearly the same inner circle cleaner scenario again but for different politicians in a different country. Alot of his dialogue is pretty silly in a bad way or doesn't sound like something he would say, I hate that they completely crap on the final panel of 2 with its "I dreamed that my wife was dead but it was all right," line while they write off the Mona romance as him just being sad and insane. He even makes some weird comments that feel like the writer hamfisting a political point into his dialogue for some reason, like in chapter 6 when he laments the death of a receptionist at the hands of "some hero fighting the rich one lonely receptionist at a time," when the enemies from that mission are literally highly funded corporate mercenaries. It's such an egregiously dumb line that I'm completely confident in saying Remedy would never write Max saying anything like this. The writing just feels really disjointed and not like a max payne game, more like a punisher adaptation.
Recently played through METRO series, replaying 2033 and Last Light and first-timing Exodus. No crashes, glitches or any other technical problems whatsoever, so idk. Also, IMHO, the stealth approach to the fights with human opponents are more interesting and rewarding, than plain old gunfights + if you choose to stun rather than kill your enemies it gives you "good-boy" points so you can get the "Good Ending"™ in both games.
Never had crashing issues like you did but I did have a weird bug occur pretty early on where after I died whenever I restarted it put me right in the thick of the commie nazi train station battle checkpoint untill I died and it reverted back to where I was before, I was so confused and thought it was a odd storytelling choice untill i got to that part latter
"Enlightened centrists" terminator😂. The people who made communism slandered the people who figured out their game and became country 108 to figure out they were being taken advantage bee tee dubs ;) Great video btw fren. I love these games.
Y'know, for such an intelligent and peaceful species, you'd think the Dark Ones would quickly find out that mindr🦍ing scared and wary survivors isn't the greatest indicator of peaceful intentions.
Every time you meet a “good karma” objective the screen flashes white. In the video I think you pointed it out thinking it was something related to Kham but actually it was karma going up.
avalanche was having the same crashing issue and it had something to do with advanced physics he turned that off and it stopped happening, didnt happen when i played it on pc but exodus was horrible for me crashing every five minutes. although i started playing again yesterday and the issue is gone so new drivers mustve fixed it
your videos on the STALKER games got me into that series and now i'm addicted. maybe the same thing will happen here lmao i'm pouring honey on you goat 🍯 stay based owen KING
As someone who has played all of the Metro and Stalker games, the Metro games are better. They're constantly on sale too, and a shit ton of fun. Play it on Survival Ranger difficulty! Probably not ranger hard-core for a first playthrough though.
Actually, you would wrong about more issues - I don't know about less, but it's not more, and the artwork for the redux is way too... shiny? Something is off with the graphics/art of the redux, at least for the first game. Similar issues crop up in Bioshock 1 remaster.
oh, but also - some of the voice work for the redux is just... amazingly bad. for ex - they rerecorded the voice of the kid you rescue from that destroyed station and it 1000% worse and way clearer it's a woman doing it, and for some reason, they made him talk WAY more. He was not great in the original, but they made him SO much worse, it's almost impressive.
