It has recently been brought to my attention that NaNoWriMo as an organization is currently involved in some controversy. I was unaware of this when making this video, and upon looking into it myself, I have decided not to participate this year. If you yourself are interested in participating in NaNoWriMo I suggest looking into the controversies around the organization beforehand so you can make an educated decision. Thanks again to the commenter who brought this to my attention! Edit: The world building, character creation, and plotting videos that I had mentioned will still be coming out, but I will be altering them so that they will not be specific to Preptober; they will instead be on the broader topic and can be used for any project, including those not affiliated with NaNoWriMo.
this really isnt the year to sign up to or advocate for nanowrimo 😬 the organisation has been heavily criticised for various reasons, including abuse targeting minors, etc. They haven't handled the issues well since. Most people are stepping away from the event for that reason
Show the quick rise to greatness and one mistake/ misunderstanding that ruins the MC leaving him hated and banished from his home now we witness him rebuild himself as well as his reputation all while suffering from depression, anxiety, and blaming themselves for the situation they’re in
I write my 4 books on wattpad- and I’ve found a good schedule for me. I like to write every other day, and if I don’t have inspiration, I don’t write. I don’t force myself because that means I would be pushing out a poor product. I like to write my chapters at 2-3k words, but I mostly just let myself go with the flow. I used to write a chapter everyday and only did 2k words per- nothing less. The chapters I made during this weren’t as good and I’m actually rewriting them now.
I’ve been struggling with this. Man, I want to write but with a job and kids I have maybe one free hour a day. When I’m feeling down about writing, I don’t want to also beat myself up about it for my only free time. I do other things and I’ll get back to it eventually.
you got this and even if you don't reach the words' number i'm sure the stimulation from all of this will make a million dollar idea pop out in your brain
That sounds amazing!! My comments are always open for questions, but my number one bit of advice would be to do your research into whichever identities and experiences you’ll be writing about.
@@WritingWithAsh i want to make a animation movie about a mermaid and a kerkan girl become girlfenides and be well written and amazing story but how do i do i nedd your help
I would say, in my current horror story would have the origins of werewolves but only important to the werewolve community, a few Greek gods maybe all are real in this universe also king Lycon is important, the history in the book only goes back by a few thousand years because that's important for the story and characters, possibly a major werewolf war has happened in the past and there is going to be another beginning in the story, there will be xenophobia toward werewolves, werewolves will probably be a metaphor for trans people, I haven't thought about the nations but there will be multiple packs of werewolves ranging from 1 individual to thousands of individuals in each pack, there will be infighting between each pack and alliances, each pack will have different rules and practices depending on the neices of said packs, also packs can combine and will be lead by either one individual or a council of individuals voted by each member
Thanks for the advice! In the plot of my animated series, there is an established villain who seems to be the big bad in the finale, but then turns out to be powered up and controlled by another powerful villain who had slightly been introduced in the previous seasons. In the end, the heroes have to enter the consciousness of the established villain to take down the Big bad. They win at the end not because they have plot armor, but because the established villain actually ends himself, doing the last good act he could do.
🤔 I’m sure there are! I’d have to think about it. Potentially a red herring villain; someone you think is the bad guy but turns out to be innocent. The acts of the secret villain, but they don’t know who’s doing them. There are probably others too!
I really enjoy just listening to music, whether in conjunction with something else or just sitting around listening. Plus, it often helps me work through my writing or come up with inspiration, whether consciously or unconsciously. (Also playing dnd is fun)
You're describing the protagonist of the soon to be most sold comic of all time : Monkey D Luffy, from One Piece. He refuses to be called an hero though... 😅
was talking about this with a friend. Whenever I forced myself to write, I wound up with piles of strawy, empty, tedious nonsense. "He walked by moving his legs, walking to the place he had to go to, which was the front desk, because he had to renew his ID." My best results are to just daydream until I hit on a really good idea, let all the interesting implications flower into existence, and then write it down. Then again my process is ridiculously slow, so
Hey, whatever works for you! I totally relate to that. Sometimes I just cannot for the life of my figure out how to write a chapter and then *poof* it’s just working again.
That's a really good tip! I'm so burnt out right now. I have like seven books going at the moment and I tried to progress on all of them, but instead I've got nothing done on any of them for almost a month. Because everytime I think about writing I feel so tired. 😅😢
Oh wow! Yeah, I’ve found that juggling that many projects at once can either be really exciting and motivating, or lead to total burnout. Don’t forget to pace yourself!
Why are they all arcs? The best character arcs are Hufflepuff arcs. They bake cookies, stay in the Shire, and their memoirs about growing up in Wyoming are read by three family members. Those are the best.
As someone who doesn't watch star wars, you are absolutely on point with this!! He and yoda are the two i will always recognize no matter what, for exactly the reasons you’ve explained in this video!
My book Is different though this book is about coming out and about being gay and about falling in love what would I do for that? The setting is school but in all it’s a romance
Honestly, I would say this still applies! I know that one of the points I make is "Don’t Make Their Whole Story About Being Gay" but I think that's true even in a story that features a coming out. For example, your story sounds akin to the one I'm working on. I'm currently writing a mlm romance novel set in the last year of highschool. And while, yes, one of the characters is discovering that they're not straight and coming to terms with that, as well as coming out to his family, his character arc is also about gaining confidence and finding what HE wants to do with his life rather than what he thinks he's SUPPOSED to do. His self reflection is started by discovering that he's bi, but it leads him to become his authentic self in other ways as well. In that sort of a way, you can have heavy LGBTQ+ themes while also having the characters have other stuff going on!
Happened to me too! I told myself it's just gonna be a couple oneshots. Nothing much! SIKE now it's a whole ass story in the making and the more I write the more ideas I get and the further away the end seems please someone help me-
To add to tip 10, you can also use a physical anchor to help enter that flow state. Have any sort of physical object that is always placed in the same relative place to you - like a pencil pouch to your upper left or an elephant statue or whatever. The important thing is it’s the same anchor in the same place relative to you and your writing. This makes a mental “room” for your writing in your mind. You know how you walk through a doorway and forget? It’s the opposite of that.
These are great tips! Small enough to be actionable, which is fantastic. I like how you model writing goals by doing an action while having dialogue (monologue?). “Removing me from my book” really hit home - sometimes we really overthink, eh?
8:00 Anytime anyone’s feet appear on the internet, people will point it out. I don’t know why. I have no interest, but my brain now notices because it’s important to others. Some of these people are not kind nor comforting, to the point that a level of vigilance is important to choose. You’re welcome to delete this comment; I’m making another to be my actual comment.
Ngl it's like this for a lot of aspects of life. I'm a trans woman, and part of the reason I'm scared to come out is because it hits a lot closer to home when people don't like who I really am than when people don't like the masculine facade I have to put up. But I gotta just deal with it. Y'know, tough it out like a REAL MAN
To me, Aaravos was compelling cuz he was mysterious, then he was captivating because he was powerful and tgen he was terrifying because he was dangerous.
