I restarted an Occultist and have been mainly choosing skills as you did. But I chose Shaman because I got a Skyfallen Slithtongue dagger with poison bolts and lightning bolts on attack. By using Soiled Trousers, and other gear and skills for vitality damage, I can stand toe to toe with enemy heroes and bosses only occasionally using health tonic, but a lot of elixirs. The coliseum bone monster is the only boss so far I have need any tactics to beat at level 29. Your advice has turned my squishy choices into really fun characters. Thanks.
I was on YT and some video on damage came up from another creator. I started watching and I thought about 13 minutes into the 35 minute video, "WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!". The guy was stating basic differences between damage types and telling what gear sets to look out for to enhance those types of damage for a HIGH LEVEL BUILD!!! I then posted what a waste of time the vid was and said I was going to his 2nd vid in the series and if that didn't do better I was gone. I'm gone. Same shit. So I'm back to watch your damage vid again because.... IT'S THE BEST OUT THERE!!! Hatch Chili Chicken Enchiladas in the oven. I'll be having them with the end of your vid at least. I don't know how many times I've watched this. ONE DAY I'LL TAKE NOTES!!! Hope all is well with you.
u can actually skip the sideways part... kinda. Cuz u can cheese that that flock face by having it jump over u and then fall off to where the branch is facing hope it makes sence
@@Valata9 Based on general comment feedback for this video (and the original one), I’d guess any specific cheese tactic has a 1-in-1000 chance of being replicated exactly with the same results.
@@Arcadelife1 true im just sayin that if sm1 accidentally misses a step or doesnt want to do it all over theres this variation lts say where u get the bird above u
@Arcadelife (sorry for the late comment) Check at 12:25, this is where you put your point in cunning. Few pixels too low with your mouse... Excellent viseo as always!
I want to recommend this video to all newcomers and some not so new. I have played 2200 hours starting, restarting, investing time to tweek here and there. I like to learn without reading or using even the directions. I have to say that this video and your use of examples taught me how to build a better, more fun character. I had wondered why seeming improvements could make a good build go bad. Thanks.
@@XuroX. I’m sure there are millions of other videos on RU-vid where your comment would be equally appropriate. Does every video need to have ‘a point’ to be entertaining? Not that I’m suggesting this video is entertaining of course 👊😂
Haven't played GD since D3 S32 started but this is a superb explanation on the basics of attributes and the link to damage. Well done. Waiting for community season 7 to play again.
@@XuroX. Good job pointing this out because I never mention it. I’ve deliberately left the auto-sort verification on because of the number of times I’ve accidentally clicked it (in stash) when I wanted to click the import components button and I absolutely do not want that main stash page auto-sorted.
Yes, it’s little things like that ‘grab the rift before completing the rest of the undercity’ tactic that often make the experience much smoother and enjoyable 👊🙂
I started an oath then i moved to a shaman 2h lightning specialization (idn the correct terms) its fun on beggining you kill a large group of monsters with one hit but too weak to hold some punches and bullets 😅
@@oirrefutavel Shaman using lightning damage (I’m assuming Primal Strike but it might not be what you’re doing) is very solid, particularly if you pair it with Soldier for the defensive Soldier skills. Be sure to read and understand the tooltips for the skills because some of the Shaman 2H skills don’t activate from Primal Strike and need a ‘default attack’ to activate. Shaman’s Savagery skill is a default attack - read the tooltip carefully to see info like that, it’s very important as you don’t want to put lots of skill points into skills that rarely or never activate.
Thank you very much for this video and all others before. I follow you since some time and I found here some of the greatest builds. And this apostate... You are right, I will never use... another build ! (Joke, but for now it is my favorite distant build) And don't let others dictate how you should/must play. It's our fun, not theirs... Keep going like that, you are perfect.
@@jasonatherton8251 Ok, you need to go to the main menu screen where you create a new character and click on ‘create new character’ … yeah, sorry but you can’t undo your mastery (class) choices. Don’t worry, the first thousand hours are the hardest 👊😜
@@-kurai- Have a look at the skill distribution at level 100 before I choose a 2nd mastery. It’s in the video I linked in another reply to you … actually I’ll link it again because it makes life easier - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tFn2P4vvANE.html
Yesterday I was googling how to determine what to look at for damage increases and didn't find an answer. I gave up and though it turned out I was correct, I was unsure and uneasy about deleting certain items. Luckily your video randomly popped up. The skill button switch will be something I'll be using in the future also. Thanks for all the years of great info and builds. We definitely appreciate it. 👍
@@707imperial Thanks for the comment, it’s much appreciated. I still believe this is the best tip for the game, it is just so useful and isn’t one of the many tips that can be ignored or taken for granted once you gain familiarity with the game - seeing the actual damage value and damage type(s) is always essential 👊🙂
Groble Effigy question. Before watching this video I had picked up a Groble Toxic Effigy, which include +3 DEE and 36% weapon damage to DEE. That was a really decent bump from what I had previously, but watching this I went over and ended up with the same one that dropped for you, an Aggressive Groble Vile Effigy of Corrosion. This drops my DEE damage by ~1000, but seems to make up for that by adding 3000 damage to Bloody Pox. I'll admit that I wasn't using BP consistently before this switch and I'm trying to rectify that now. I'm still unsure of this tradeoff between the direct damage of DEE and the dot impact of BP.
@@-kurai- Yeah, when I was first experimenting with maxing out Evil Eye damage (few years back) I used the Toxic Effigy and then swapped to a Leafmane Horn later. The toxic effigy is arguably better for DEE than the Leafmane horn but I farmed/exploited the Vinelton shop in Ancient Grove to get ‘the best’ Leafmane Horn possible. Back to this build, with acid pox conversion, and the Vile Effigy does the pox conversion while also adding varying amounts of damage to DEE depending on affixes. Overall, this build with both pox and DEE doing acid damage is more effective than my minimalist DEE character.
@@-kurai- Here’s a level 96 video of this character, still pure Occultist (I choose a 2nd mastery at 100) - shows what converted pox and DEE can do in ultimate - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c74_r56fLbg.html
@@Arcadelife1What did you end up picking for your 2nd mastery? I'm really enjoying the Occultist, this is the smoothest leveling I've experienced in the game so far.
@@-kurai- Here’s the video I did for the second mastery options for this character - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tFn2P4vvANE.html - I’ve previously used Arcanist for the damage/spirit buffs and the damage absorption from maiven’s sphere but I actually went with Soldier this time because it seems like a fun/weird choice and also the tankiness is nice in hardcore.
I just can’t get used to Focused Gaze, and I feel like in the cooldown period, I can do more damage without having it equipped. I may not one shot a group, but by the third DEE shot all the mobs, including stragglers, are dead and the FG cooldown wouldn’t even be up yet. Still, my character is only 25 and maybe the difference is more dramatic in later levels?
@@-kurai- If you prefer the spam-attack over the focused gaze then stay with it as long as you want to. I’ve since developed a different way to play this type of character, using an item to convert bloody pox to acid damage, which fills in the gaps between focussed gaze casts of evil eye. Here’s a video partway through the series on that version of the build, and there are links to the earlier videos in the description - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rpa7TCw9beQ.html
@@GeriAttric Cheers for the comment, it’s much appreciated. Some things have changed a lot - no more health/energy potions to carry around in inventory, and the addition of a really useful Evade skill for example - but most of the stuff in the video should still be reasonably accurate 👊🙂
@@Arcadelife1 The HUD left me baffled, you did a great job of touching on the essentials and that helped. Now I just have to be careful about skill point allocation as I've read it's best to pump into one damage type. I'm not 100% if that means elemental damage type or skill damage. Right now I'm running a Nightblade, Soldier build while focusing on one main attack and then buffs. I'll learn but you definitely got me pointed in the right direction.
@@GeriAttric It’s the actual damage type that’s important, so if you are using attack skills that deal ‘physical’ damage (it’s called that in the game) you need to equip gear and use other skills (and devotions) that buff physical damage and don’t convert physical damage to a damage type you’re not buffing. Same if you’re using attack skills that deal acid damage, for example, buff that damage type and look for gear that buffs it. Or fire, cold, aether, chaos … whatever damage type your character is using, try to buff it as hard as possible.
I like veteran mode because I get more involved in combat, dodging, positioning and skills, everything becomes a tool that you must use or you won't survive. My biggest issue with D3 was how easy it was even increasing the difficult wasn't enough to keep me from almost falling asleep.
Tip! You can more than double the range of "lobbed" projectiles i.e. poison bomb. Just place the cursor very close to your characters feet and fire. Where you place the cursor will dictate the direction. It takes a bit of practice but it can be useful. Discovered this by chance.
@@jaxzor If you’re doing pets, you’re mostly going to want pet gear with suffixes such as ‘of the wild’ or ‘of the untamed’ but because it’s Grim Dawn it’s more complicated than that. If an item includes a damage conversion to pets you need to be aware of this and either focus your pet buffs on the converted damage type or ditch the item to avoid unnecessary complications and potential unwanted de-buffs. Apart from that, it’s mostly very easy 👊😜
@@jaxzor One other recommendation - look out for items that grant another summonable pet, example Black Grimoire of Og-something that gives you a decent undead fire soldier. Relic ‘Dirge of Arkovia’ gives a large undead golem thing. There are others.
What do you think of going sentinel instead? In theory would getting righteous fervor and the acid modifiers for oathkeeper be better than inquis abilities?
@@crimeariver11 Sentinel would work. You’d need to enable dual-wield somehow and that might also involve losing a source of acid damage from gear. But yeah, it would work and these builds are ultimately all down to personal choices.
Oh cool, a new game! I've been stuck on Mordheim lately myself. I've not played NMS, but it does look pretty cool and it seems like they're always updating it
@@elskirvo Yeah, the updates are legendary for all the right reasons. Game is the same age (2016) as Grim Dawn and a totally different experience - sometimes I like just relaxing while flying over a new planet, other times I’ll get in surface fights on foot and go full pew-pew. My most recent obsession was building my own ship 👊🥳
@@charlesballard5251 Changing it up a bit. I’ve got so many levelling videos covering the early game, it just felt like I needed to compress the footage down to “Well, I went there and got that stuff” which is all anyone really needs to know. To be honest, the build for the first 50-ish levels is extremely simple to gear-up and allocate skills & devotions. Seeing me doing every little bit of it wouldn’t be massively beneficial.

yea did this in late august 24. just stood there as far onto the ledge as I could. once he's over you his attacks don't seem to hit and eventually he'll do a charge and kill himself. Guess he forgets how to fly or can't glide or something. Or maybe there's a gravitational disturbance like a foot over that ledge and we have no clue because gravity takes us anyways
