Good idea, poor execution... You most likely ruined the temper. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS ((🥾🥾stomps foot, lights match🔥🔥)) only contact with the grinding wheel 2-3s then dip in water for a second or two, ten repeat. It will help keep the drill cool. If you heat It passed a certain point you could run the temper (make the steel soft). Soft MIGHT drill thru wood a few times. Good luck!
I think a syringe will work better than a plastic bottle, I have one with a little hose glued to the tip, and later is very easy to wash off by pumping and dumping a solvent for the paint or lacquer used.
