The biggest acctg/finance staff impact/concern is “how does this affect my current job responsibilities”….that is what is the predominant concern for people that do the work - once that 800 gorilla is acknowledged and addressed, only then does the “how does my daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual tasks change?” become a relevant question. The process, controls and reporting standards, metrics, etc, are also only relevant concerns once the “how does it impact me, personally?” is addressed, IMHO, (based upon having done this for +25yrs now: BS-Acctg&Stats, MBA-Fin&MIS, CPA, CMA, PMP, etc)

Interesting overview. I am a retired CIA, who started at the County of LA in the 1970's, then ARCO, Ashton-Tate (software), Nissan, etc. as a CIA focused on NON-compliance operational auditing. I mostly worked at firms that were industrial and profit motivated and mostly interested in operational improvements from internal audit. There were hardly any compliance standards then, and IIA was mostly focused on operational auditing. Now compliance work like SOX, COSO, etc. has overwhelmed them. Nothing beats finding a million dollar savings over spending 3-weeks to verify compliance of an obtuse regulation.
