The plating on these pre-war gillettes is a gold wash with shellac on top. The shellac is delicate and the gold wash is far thinner than an electroplate finish. $250 is a crazy price, imo, unless it is in NOS condition. They are very nice shavers though. I would not use any force with this razor. It is not a mild shaver, though not extremely aggressive either. I have a hard time imagining you screaming, or hooting and hollering and dancing around. That would give the cats something to think about.
You seemed to enjoy those Techmatic/Instamatic styles more than most people do; they are an interesting alternative but I guess never caught on at the time. I wonder how much NOS there really is out there; I imagine row of warehouses stuffed with things that never sold!
A very nice shave Don and another interesting razor from the past. So nice to see people using Old New Stock and razors I have never heard of. Tabac is great I just love it. I had cream and did not enjoy its scent for some reason so I piffed it to someone. You and Sarge take care and look forward to seeing a garden and flowers video soon :)
I am always amazed that NOS inventory exists. Gillette must just run the factory nonstop and then if something does not sell just have huge stores of stuff that ends up somewhere.
Nice shave Don, never tried the Merkur Progress Razor yet, seems great. That blade I have seen you use a few times. Nice cream and matching balm as well as their splash! Take care. We need garden video please.
I wonder if I can use the Merkur 37c against the grain on the neck with no irritation. Right now I use a Wilkinson Sword Classic and after the against the grain pass I get irritation on the mustache and the neck.
Nice shave Don as usual! Tried that razor and was a bit much for me personally. Wow Clubman foam I had no idea, I love that scent but wife highly allergic so cannot use any scented post shave products any longer. Take care my friend and give Sarge a good ol tummy rub for me!!
That's a very nice razor - especially for the price. the handle is a Bulldog - like an HD but longer. I used to use mine a lot. but I haven't reached for it in a while. I will have to rectify that soon. I've never used the Clubman Pinaud foam, but have a tub of soap, and it's nice. The aftershave is the one I use the most.
I admire your skills! This is the right beast - I'll use it on Tuesday to finish off the Gillette Nacet I've been using since Thursday. Best regards, Jarek G!
A really nice shave Don. MWF is a classic. I have not tried the vegan formula. I was surprised since they had Tallow formula out for 100+ years then switch to Vegan...Nice razor I have not been able to try that razor. Always love that brush, I have the Simpson T3 White handle I like a lot. Hey Sarge. Be nice to see an update video on your garden when it gets nice brother.
You use a pre-shave oil quite often, instead of a cream. Do you prefer the oils? I have only been using only Proraso for 20+ years. I do have a 500G container of 3P, too, but have not opened it.
I like oil if my skin is dry before a shave. Otherwise, I might use a cream. The Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus pre shave cream is good, and I have a large container of it.
Neat razor! I use DE safety razors, but if I need a shave and yet don't really feel like shaving, I will use a brushless cream like Cremo and a Harry's cartridge razor. Sometimes one needs a break from the time it takes to make lather and do a three pass. Nothing to feel bad about.
Nice! I love using Proraso foams- (I have all versions) and Figaro Classic, Noxzema (red). They are wonderfully scented and comfortable to use especially with a preshave as you've done. Gillette charcoal foam is nicely vanilla kind of scented and works very well. Sometimes the brush is too harsh for my sensitive skin, that became like that as a side effect of the medicaments I have to take, so I use the foam quite often or put the shaving cream using just my hands. Works nice with Merkur 42C, which is very mild, Gillette Mach 3, Gillette Skinguard Sensitive which I enjoy as well. Greetings from Jarek G!
I have passed through Kansas a few times, but was completely unaware of this unusual creation. It reminds me a lot of the Coral Castle in the Miami area -- my wife was pretty annoyed when I detoured for that one! 😂 Watts towers in Los Angeles is also a good place to stop. Haven't been out in years.
I do not remember the Schick Personna blades you mentioned. But I do recall the Schick "injector" system -- that's what my father always bought. I do like the Proraso green preshave, cream, and aftershave. Will have to try the red.
@@conversationalshaving9805 I did know they weren't the injector. But I searched again after you mentioned "quad" again and found them. Still, I do not recall ever seeing them until this video. Very unusual design. You taught me something.
@@Duke_of_Prunes I think I saw Ken Surfs use them, and I was mistaken. They are Wilkinson Quad blades and razors, but I bought mine from the Schick website.
