Incomplete report: 1. No mention of pre-settlement Native American occupation for far longer than settler occupation. 2. No mention of promised benefits: a. vague statements of “popular” recreational use. Needs actual visitor numbers. b. No mention of flood control. C. Ford factory closed in 2008, 😢less than ten years after it opened. D. More Tax $$$ spent to mitigate pollution caused by the reservoir.
@quixote5844
@quixote5844 Месяц назад
The real purpose of the reservoir was in keeping with the Army Corps motto “Keep Busy”. Create a project that causes problems, so the corps could spend more $$$ keeping busy solving a problem they caused. Brilliant!

I think my Dad was a contestant in the early 50s on the Dottie Mack show. He did a pantomime of a popular song. I must have been two or three at the time. Anybody know of a show that featured pantomime?

Wonderful! The free-energy-via-Aether aspects to historic Milford rooftops in old photos. Promont, American castle and much, much older than we think. Were 1,000 years simply and somehow erased? This area is a suburb of Amazing.

I used to live in Owensville as a kid in the mid-1960s and early 1970s. I visited the Batavia branch of the library many times during those years. While I now live in the Philadelphia, some of my family still lives in the Cincinnati area, so I visit from time-to-time. Last time I was there, I walked across the Purple People Bridge. On trip to Clermont County we went to New Richmond. I always enjoy visiting the area, which I do a couple times a year. There's a LOT of history in the Cincinnati area, and that's saying something for someone who has been in the Philadelphia area for 25 years.

Some chefs say you should brown the crust in the oven briefly before putting in the ingredients--makes for a crispier crust. Just getting into quiche recipes--not sure which way to go on that. Your quiche looks delicious!

I love this video. We left Cincinnati 27 years ago and always swore we would never return. Upon our twin’s completion of elementary school we realized that Cincinnati was a great place to be from so we returned for their middle school/high school years in 2021. Thanks for sharing. Back during original construction period, there was very heavy drinking in the parking lot. Ankle deep with booze and beer bottles. At least that’s what I heard.

Lot of stories about that place during construction. Organized crime thefts of entire semi trailers full of tools and equipment. Local police depths being on the take and in on the thefts. Workers placing cutting torch oxygen tanks in pieces of pipe, aiming them into the river, then knocking the valve head off to shoot/skip them across the rivers water. I was a baby during that time but heard stories from some old timers. True or false I have no way of knowing

Hello, so pleased to find this video about Bethel and, specifically, the Sunny South line of baby shoes. (Fancy Area 23:16 in). This factory was my great-great grandmother's. Her name was Edith Harrison South. Judi, you mentioned a couple of years ago her daughter came in and provided a picture of her wearing the shoes. Edith's daughter was Camille South Brannock, my maternal grandmother, who passed away in the early 50s. The article displayed on top of the case was written by my mother, Betty Ann Brannock Schwab, and it was published in one of the Clermont County digests. My mother wrote many anecdotal stories of this era and was also the family genealogist. Edith's scrapbook, which is now in my possession, has passed down from her. She was one of the very first recognized female industrialists in the nation -- and beyond. I would love to share more information if you are interested. We have many generations of ancestors living in Bethel alone. Carolyn Parker wwe.tracadie.wordpress.com

Well done! At the bottom of what we called "Goggle Eye Hill," in Bethel, The Little Miami came rushing around a bend, slowed under the bridge, and ended at its confluence with Cloverlick Creek. It was beautiful. The surrounding hills had freshwater springs, and wild mint growing near them. After the lake came to be, all that was left was filthy backwater. It still breaks my heart.

The whole West End is still underused and undervalued. Not sure the new soccer stadium will help much either. The potential of the city is enormous, but disheartening as the vast majority continue to live in the suburbs and refuse to renovate and develop in the beautiful historic basin. Queensgate is a total failure.

Cincinnati really needs to do something with their abandoned subway system
@michaelg1060
@michaelg1060 7 месяцев назад
@madmattdrummer5487 There was a time in the late '80's (as I recall) when the idea was really being pushed again, which would'v involved funding from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. But, as has been so often the case, squabbling amongst DO NOTHING City Council members and WEAK Mayors, the opportunity came and passed, like a comet that will never be seen again. Cincinnati could've been a Metropolis. And no, I don't believe (anymore) that the city's geography would've been a hindrance to Cincy becoming a City with a million people WITHIN it's city limits. It likely would've been 3 million plus in Metropolitan Area. Also, the One Million estimate is a low ball estimate...probably 2 million.

I used to watch Pantomine Hit Parade with Dotty Mack Colin Male and Bob Braun later with Bob Smith. They later changed the show name to This Is Music when they went on ABC Network! Surely I'm not the only one who remembers this. Never see any mention of it! Colin Male later became the voice you hear anouncing The Andy Griffit Show. I remember The Paul Dixion Show at WCPO with Dotty Mack and Wanda Lewis! Paul was the disc jockey spinned records. Dotty and Wanda pantomimed records as did Paul.

Correction re steamboat disasters: The Sultana explosion of 1865 killed more people than the Titanic and is probably the greatest maritime disaster in history. The Moselle is not even close to being the worst in history -- except possibly in Cincinnati's history. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5DLKI4VltuE.html
