I wouldn’t recommend this laptop for gaming. I bought one of these and returned it for the g18 rog strix. The g16 is a lightweight gaming machine and cannot handle heavy intensive gaming at a high setting and fps even with the 4090.
I was wondering... Will OLED burn-in happen if I don't use the "auto-hide taskbar" feature (since I hate it). I've heard modern OLED panels have come a long way since the first generation ones, and that burn-in is all but non-existent at this point. I plan to use this laptop for atleast 5 years (about 6 hours a day) and most of the time it's going to be work related stuff like word, pdf viewer, excel, etc. with only intermittent gaming. So, will getting the OLED version of this laptop be a mistake? Should I go for the IPS version instead? I do love how gorgeous OLED looks, but I don't want to be stuck with a degraded, taskbar burned-in screen 5 years down the line...
Can you please tell me, what is the name or brand of your bag that you putted your iPad into? It looked so sleek 😮 I know this video is 2 years old, but hoping you’ll reply
Why is my g16 a bit different? I get about 9 hours of battery life, laptop is fairly quiet, I have 2tb ssd, 32gb ram and hardly gets hot. When I use it for regular use it stays at about 45-50c on cpu. And when gaming it maxes out at about 75-80c
probably not different. battery life depends on usage. as he stated in the video if you're using the laptop gaming he'll get right around 2 hours. but for other things similiar to your battery life usage.
I have the G16 with the 4080, and overall I really like it. The only issue I have is Nvidia advanced Optimus is a bit janky. My laptop thinks there's an external display plugged in, and sometimes the battery drains thinking the dGPU is running. It's not all the time, but it's janky.
The narrative of Mac OS being streamlined is pretty out of date these days imo, I use a studio everyday for work and have a m2 MacBook pro as my laptop and Mac OS has become stale, clunky, buggy and pretty old fashioned to be frank, there hasn't really been any true innovation on the Mac OS side for a very long time. I could power up my 10 year old iMac and it would look almost identical to my Studio today. Apart from the Apple Silicone, the hardware has been just as stale as well, that was their big advantage which with the launch of Qualcomm's new chips may also be over. I only really come in contact with windows on my ROG Ally but cant say I've found it to be all the cluttered or clunky, search still sucks, but then it does on Mac OS as well for anything more than launching an program or simple calculations in spotlight.
I got an 11” M1 iPad Pro and settled for the 64gb iPad Mini 5. Despite being both iPads, I actually have different use cases for the iPad Mini. Most of my notes and files are on my Pro, then I take my mini with me when I’m on the go or have to work a 24 hour shift at the hospital
I buy this laptop yesterday and fortnite run soo lagging and stutters and fps drop and battery is only like one half hours damn bad laptop ever I going to return it.
@@ahmadroslee7643 yes i dont reccomend it, and itngrt hot very quick too battery life is suck maybe for others games can be okay but for fps games noooo
@@fidelisitor8953 My Razer died after 4 years (hence me being under this comment section - go figure), and began presenting significant issues after 2. These issues included my computer having literal “strokes”, resulting me losing ALL files, continuously. And my computer not being able to charge past 5% during its last few days. Additionally, my laptop could not connect to external displays (in all 4 years of ownership, even after purchasing their docking station). Finally, Razer notoriously has very poor customer service - you shouldn’t invest in such an expensive item from them until this is resolved. Of course you can choose whatever laptop you please, but I felt I needed to inform you. I will never buy a Blade again.
DonT you know that there are different modes that can reduce the fan noise and heat and different fan adjusments, use balance mode instead of high perfomrance mode and note the difference. You did not talk about the ports. It depends on what kind of gamer are you. I have m1 macbook pro and I am casual gamer, so I use cloud for windows. game as long as you have reasonably fast internest onnection it is fine. Your videos are ok but not complete you did not mentions the beautiful oled display, how that degrades battery life. You just left a lot of things out, If you want your videos to be better, please be thorough. watch some more experience tech youtubers for clues. You are doing a good job, but there is always room for improvement. I also play Residnence evil 4 on my Levovo yoga 91 with 1080 res. and get 60 fps, it barely gets warm and almost 0 fan noise, for 968 dollars. Why people want to game for hours is beyond me. It means they are sacificing social life and relating to other peeople. NOT GOOD for sociey, sorry, You become isolated and much more prone to objectifying people, because you become less famialiar with human personalities. Alienation creates more conflict between people, and nation. Yeah, hard pill to swallow, eh. ok there are windows laptops with good speaker,. iike the 16 or 17 inch razer blade and Dell Xps, You just have not researched or investigated, which is also essential if you want to make good tech videos.
8 Gb of video ram (vram) might have been enough 4 or 5 years ago but any laptop in 2024 that doesn't have at least 12 Gb of vram doesn't deserve to be called a "gaming laptop"!
If it costs <$1000, 8GB VRAM is okay but anything above $1000 should have minimum 12GB VRAM. Don't know why NVIDIA's so stingy with their VRAM in laptops.
@@infringinator Not everyone has the space for a PC setup and I also need a mobile device I can game on whenever I'm travelling. Don't assume your situation is the same as everyone else. There's a reason gaming laptops are still on the market (currently selling even more than gaming desktops).
@@fidelisitor8953 I'll assume whatever I want. What you need to do is lower your video settings so you can play on the go without spending cash money I'm talking at least $1000 for an updated video card.
@@tabeebkhandaker6902 I am happy with my purchase, I can play dirt rally 2 on low fan noise just fine, and pubg with a bit fan noise. Kingdom come on low fan noise. For how slim it is it is really nice. It can get loud if you push it to the limit. One thing I don't like is the space bar trigger on the right side. It has to be pressed quite hard to register. Other than that with G-helper it's great.
I'm a video editor and I'm also planning to get the ryzen version or the Legion 7i. How hot does it get while gaming (AAA titles)? Is too hot to touch?
@@abhijithasokan5691 It can get hot (if you want it to) yes, but only if you touch in the middle top (above the Function keys). I use G-helper which helps balance performance and power consumption. I always try to use as less power as possible since I plan to use this in my Van to travel and I have only 5kwh battery. But for me this laptop was a very solid choice. I don't regret it so far. Just want to try VR on it to see how it will run some VR games. Because I like simracing :) If it gets to loud or hot I would use rivatuner to cap the FPS a little bit. But that's me. For instance Dirt 2 I don’t need more than 80 fps which also helps with power consumption a bit. Of course for FPS games you want to push as much frames as possible probably.
its insignificant, and dosnt wobble when typing, and even if the screen start wobbling, its dosnt get in the way of your productivity, (I have the 2024 G14)
It’s definitely a bit bulkier and heavier, but totally portable in my opinion. If you need perfect portability especially if you’ll be using it on a small university desk, G14 may be better, but for gaming and Excel and coding, the bigger screen is ideal if you won’t be using a monitor most of the time!
@@jessekhachhI’ve seen some people say that the extra screen space is useful for computer science majors for coding and things of that nature, but I’m not sure if that’s true or not. So do you think that there’s benefits to getting the G16 over the G14 for my intended use case?
I would say so, trying to code or do any type of engineering style work on a 14 inch screen is doable, but just not fun. If you go the 14 inch route, at least invest in a monitor so for those longer days you can get some relief with a bigger screen. The G16 is not as big and bulky as other gaming laptops, but the G14 is still more compact if that's your main goal.
Had no idea this was coming out, would love to check it out but the 4070 32gb model in the US is $2200. Kinda pricey with no sale. I’m thinking about the G14 but the screen size just isn’t enough for gaming/editing.
Fan noise is better on the 4080, really I see no point in buying the 4060 or 4070 version of the meteor lake intel CPU, unless you get the new AMD version, which is one of the main cons with this laptop, that they purposely sabotaged the 4060 and 4070, and the price for the 4080 4090 is absurd, especially in EU its daylight robbery
Do you think the 4070 AMD model is significantly better than the 4070 Ultra CPUs? I would love an overall cooler quieter G16 as that’s one of my main cons. Also playing games or editing with the iGPU sometimes would be cool for low fan noise.
@@jessekhachh From the reviews of the Pixel Pro Art with the new AMD Chip (JustJosh cant stop raving about it and Andrew "AMD" has also), I would say it is a significant improvement, we'll have to wait and see, but my early guess is heat you feel and fan noise will be noticeably improved. From my actual experience of trying the 4080 for 30 days, the fan noise was fine, nothing too distracting as there were no high pitch noises, I am looking to get the 4080 again during black Friday sales as the initial one I bought was too expensive I just bought to try it, but by that time we could get the Intel Lunar Lake CPU with a 4080 variant that will blow these two chips out of the water
@@jessekhachhi tried amd version, it is better with cpu intensive tasks, depends if ur work/play relies heavily on cpu. It is abit cooler but still gets hotter than g14, and is just as loud, fan noise didnt change noticeably for me. It is overall better than the ultra 9 one cost no option, but there are some bugs rn, it could get sorted soon however
Since you're uploading this video just 3 days ago, i'll appreciate it if you put the CPU type on the title or description since the Ryzen variant is just released, i have to watch till 2:32 the 2nd time or come reading the description just to find the CPU tipe on the BestBuy link. Currently people start flocking for videos about the Ryzen variant and from what i heard it tend to run cooler and drain 50% less wattage than the Intel Ultra one. Other than that this is a good video, cheers!
Currently deciding this myself haha. If price is no factor.. G16 with 4080 is probably a great combination, though you are getting a slightly slower version of a 4080.
@@jessekhachh I want to upgrade after 12 years😁 coming from a vaio f215 with gen2 i7😅 so expending a bit more is acceptable . The looks and statics of g16 are really appealing but the white legion 7i is also so attractive 😂 very hard decision
"As for the pencil, I love to convince myself that one day I'm gonna be creative." No truer words have been said in my case. I still bought the pencil and it's pretty fun to play with haha.
I like ipads because i only watch youtube and play games and not video/photo editing no intensive essay writing (atleast not on my ipad) so for me its perfectly fine if i use a ipad over MacBook
great review, thanks! I'm about to buy one, but I'm a little worried about the PWM. How are your eyes? Do you get tired or dry eyes after using it? Many people complain about screen discomfort, headaches etc
I haven't noticed any issues and I am a bit sensitive to PWM! Some laptops/tablets affect me and others do not, but this one doesn't seem to bother my eyes any more than looking at a screen for hours at end normally would. Just be sure to turn down the brightness... it gets a bit bright.
