Welcome to Bill Hancock Driving school, I have been an ADI since 1987 so I've got plenty of experience, on this channel we show you some test routes that you may go on during your driving test, on some of the video's there's no sound, this is because we are not allowed to record audio on a driving test, have a look at some of the places that may catch you out, the beauty of this site is you can go over it again and again, I'll show you some interesting things that maybe of some help to you, here you can have a look at Crewe, Wrexham, Oswestry, Shrewsbury & Chester.
In my opinion that was a brilliant idea and great thinking, there are double solid white lines down the middle of the road and the cyclist is doing less than 10mph so legally you can overtake the cyclist but you can’t overtake them because you can’t see around the bend and by the time you can see clearly and safely get around the cyclist you’re at the roundabout so it makes sense to go all the way around the roundabout and by the time you reach your required exit the cyclist is out of the way.
Thank you for your feedback, I covered this in my standards check a few years ago, I believe that if you are teaching someone to drive you should cover the what if's on lessons and show them how to respond to situations other that relying on luck... in other words nothing came up to challenge them so they would just be lucky and pass...thank you for watching my videos.
Sorry but would you do that as an experienced driving? You would either overtake quickly or stay behind the cyclist until after the roundabout so as not have to go all the way around. I would suggest "awareness planning" fault as per DL25 all day long
Thank you for your feedback, this was a novice driver that came across this situation, we covered a lot of what if's on lessons...they remembered when I was explaining about a different test a couple of years ago when a candidate was on test and there were about twenty odd cyclists going down the bypass approaching a roundabout, there were gaps between the cyclists... the examiner asked them to turn left at the roundabout.. trouble being the cyclists.. so they indicated right so they stayed clear of the cyclists and went around the roundabout.. the cyclists were then approaching the roundabout and they were the ones who had to give way to the right at the roundabout...I covered this particular topic on my standards check a few years ago...there are uses to this tactic and what's important is that it is safe and legal....thank you for taking the time to watch my video.
No, you could just turn up on your own, make sure you have your driving licence with you and that you have a suitable car to take your test in...must display L plates and interior mirror for the examiners use. Best of luck
I passed my Test back in October 2023 in Shrewsbury with the help of your Videos. However I've given up on driving completely because a month after I got my 1st car someone crashed into it as it was parked on my drive and its still going through the insurance to this day. Back to trusty bicycle but keep up the good content.
So sorry that happened to you...please don't give up...you'll regret it at some point in the future...we all have to accept that sometimes bad things happen to good people..such as yourself...just get back behind the wheel. Bill
Thank you for taking a look, yes it was a fail, that wasn't the only thing that they failed on....use of mirrors, and moving off safely were some of the other things...I only put this video up for the pupil and his father to have a look at... they retook the test on the 13th of May and that was a pass, thank you for taking the time to look and comment.
@@billhancockdriving4373 no problem, im taking my test at the chester centre in a couple of days and im trying to familiarise myself with some of the routes they take, looking for anything that might catch me out.
Thank you for checking out my channel..yes cyclists are very difficult to deal with I'm afraid.....try and be prepared for what may happen.. the problem is you only have a few moments to make the right choice.
Thank you for your feedback, I've always said that passing a driving test means nothing, it just means you may have been lucky and had a good run through and nothing came up to challenge you.
Absolutely Bill I agree. Unfortunately though some take their test on a quiet morning and don't get tested in the same way as when it is say the school run or rush hour. My wife's friend passed her test (automatic) first time but she even said it was fairly quiet on the roads that morning. Now she is saying she is nervous to drive and needs her husband with her every time she goes out. My wife took her test 5 times (manual) and has been confident in driving ever since she passed, going out on her own and even driving to the seaside in the first few months since passing. You are right though.
Thank you for your feedback, A pass only means that on that particular moment in time nothing came up to challenge them and they had a good run through with no challenges, I like to think that when I'm teaching someone to drive I make the effort to teach proper clutch control and steering control so that in the event of something coming up they can deal with the situation in a safe and controlled manner.
I have to admit that watching that last one, I got caught out by the two lanes suddenly opening up, and the taxi pulled up pretty close in front (because of box junction). Our driver was left with very little time - even at ten-odd mph - to safely decide which lane was required. I'd have probably gone around again, and made sure I got into the correct lane for my exit. But I've had more experience about having a 'plan B' in place than a learner would. So while I understand why it has to be a fail, I've got some sympathy for them.
That's the skill of driving I'm afraid. You've always got to try and anticipate what's happening ahead, to be honest this could have caught the best of us out.
Thanks for sharing. May I ask a question? @16:37 when the car was leaving in the middle lane, could the car moved into the left lane after crossing the yellow box?
Thanks for your question, the lane that she should have used was the left hand one..however both lanes go the same way, so the examiner would be checking to see if she was checking the left hand door mirror, she did so that was ok, it would have not ended well if she didn't check. Hope thats been of assistance.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING, ZIG ZAGS MUST BE ON ENTRY TO, AND EXIT OF CROSSING, BLACK AND WHITE STRIPE MARKINGS DO NOT CONTINUE COMPLETELY OVER ROAD, ONLY 1 FLASHING AMBER LIGHT OUT OF 3 WORKING... AS FOR THE CENTRAL ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, IF THE MARKINGS WHERE CORRECT, THIS WOULD BE CLASSED AS 2 SEPARATE CROSSINGS... THIS ALEDGED PEDESTRIAN CROSSING, IS A COMPLETE JOKE
@@billhancockdriving4373 My previous test I have to confused this one I pull over on the left and saw the red colour and I moved the car a little but still indicate left the examiner give me a serious faults … Anyway you are so kind thank you very much .
You're going to get a bunch of leeches in here soon wanting to earn money off your content without paying you a penny. Prepare for it and consider asking them for fair compensation.
Unless that van driver could somehow have seen over the brow of the hill way before his overtake, no it is not safe at all. He could've waited about 10 more seconds and then overtaken legally and safely and more easily on the downhill stretch.
@@billhancockdriving4373 I don’t know about roundabout go to Monkmoor the examiner need me follow the sing Monkmoor I didn’t count little tail is number one ~)
As soon as past the layby, the cam vehicle should be ready and prepared to move lane to overtake the slow moving vehicle. By slowing down then attempting to overtake they are reducing their options and safety and others safety because of speed difference. Something else this learner needs to work on. Slowing down for a situation is not always the safest option.
