These are all good. I might shake up the order a bit. Moreover focus on two or three in each practice to keep things progressing and not get stuck in a rut. Id also focus on some music history, documentaries, different youtube channels, you bump into new ideas not in your wheelhouse. Primary rule: make it fun. Those 90 percent arent enjoying it enough to keep playing.
Where do I start!? I think not knowing how to improve. I've got some tab books, other guitar books, practice scales, watch videos to learn songs, occasionally try to learn some theory to see if I can tie it all together. I also have terrible rhythm and hate both of my guitars xD
This is a very timely video. I'm an older beginner. I've been having a lot of doubts about my progress after four years of face-to-face lessons. I practice daily, but it is obvious to me that my practice isn't as affective as it could be. I have all of the problems you outlined at the beginning of the video to some extent. However, I think the worst is not being able to get all my fingers to move at the same time.
Hey Andrew!😊 Thank you so much for your videos! I LOVE playing guitar and your videos are a real treasure for me. I really appreciate what you are doing. You are just a great teacher!. You are very clear and specific in your explanations. You clearly have talent! 🎉 But you know what? You are not only my guitar teacher, you are also my English teacher. Besides guitar, I also LOVE English very much and am actively studying it. I'm just delighted with your English! You speak so beautifully, clearly and intelligibly. Your speech is so good! I enjoy listening you! I am learning a lot of new words and expressions with you, improving my listening comprehension and pronunciation by repeating phrases after you. So with you I am making double progress in both guitar and English! Thank you very much! And good luck in your future activities!😊
Thanks for this video. I have restarted my guitar journey. Now I have a proper guitar teacher. Helpful for me to have a discussion on how to have a proper learning roadmap.
@@andrewclarkeguitar im having trouble finding tones and stuff though, i was trying to play whats new scooby doo but i wasnt able to get my amp to sound right..
I've looked everywhere on RU-vid and there's not a single video that teaches properly. They all start at level 1, then 2, and then they all randomly jump to level 5 and skip other stuff expecting that i already have knowledge of that. NO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS, EXPLAIN IT TO ME... the frustration is impeccable

The biggest issue with guitar is that I can't pick it up and instantly play like I'm Chuck Berry. I Gotta do shit like "learn" and "practice" on a regular basis for many years, truly the problem is with the instrument and not myself for I am very good and smart.
I've been playing guitar for a year now, but in a year I only have Acoustic, I guess I got stuck with playing such chords, flatpicking, bit of plucking and so. But these past 3 days I've been watching Music Theory namely one of your videos as well, somehow it helped me expand my brain even just a little bit even if at first it's a little hard to understand. I want to have electric guitar so bad already but I just don't have the money to get one so, I tried learning scales, and any other electric guitar things at my acoustic but it seems just hard.
Hi Andrew this has done my head in today but getting though it now, yes it does take time I think it also helps you learn your notes on he fret board quicker as well 😀
I asked the Shijie customer rep Dave Shaw if they were going to make a Jazzmaster, because I love them too, but he said they have no plans to do that. They do make a Jazz BASS however, and I'm getting one of those for $800 now in 2024. I love the S and T models they make, the only thing I'd like different is the nuts need to be rounded over on the edges, because it catches my hand when I slide over it. The edges of the fretboards are sharper than I prefer, and they would be more comfortable rolled a bit. Alex Wong, the luthier who owns Shijie, had a deep love for Fender instruments, especially S and T type guitars. Apparently he likes Jazz basses too, but so far no Precision - I want a Jazz bass for the thinner neck and dual single coil pickups anyways. I asked for a dark roasted neck on my last guitar, and Dave Shaw made sure I got it, the MOP dots don't show-up well on maple fretboards unless they are roasted dark. I'm getting a rosewood board on my black Jazz bass.
i have small hands but my fingertips have bellies when i bend them so all I do is mute strings. have tried 3 different programs and cant get past any lessons because all i do is mute strings and have seen basically every video on how not to do it but ive been a failure for almost a year now. im still on square on and ready to give up
You are certainly a swell fella. I can actually learn from your teachings without spacing out thanks to your clean presentation, concise information, dandy use of illation and diagrammatic bombastication! A solid foundation is the summation. Thanks for putting in the dedication to make learning feel like vacation. Sorry, that has never happened to me before.
What's holding me back is playing a pretty chord and then my mind tells me the next chord it wants me to play but I have literally no idea how to go about finding it. It all looks too overwhelming and big!
Learn about how major, minor, and 7th chords all fit into a key. It will limit the number of possible chords to choose from and will likely narrow it down to one of those chords your mind is telling you it wants to hear. @@andrewclarkeguitar Thanks so much for your reply. I've downloaded your scale and chords pdf and checked out that video. It feels encouraging having someone see me in my struggle and offer some words that speak to my exact frustrations with it all. Thank you for what you do!
are there videos on how to teach a 5 yr old? i have been playing for a week and i have to keep looking at my fingers and place them one by one. is this something i will eventually learn?
That's totally normal! It might be that way for a few weeks. Don't worry too much about it. Just keep playing and it'll get better. Try practicing putting all the fingers down at once into a chord shape, even if it makes you go really slow. This will help connect your mind and your muscles so you move them as one shape.
