When I was a kid in the ‘70s, the R2 droid fascinated me more than anything. The Star Wars novel made it sound as though R2 was alive and had thoughts. That was very cool! Yeah, fix those colors! Robots should be metallic or black! 👍🏻
Actually, we are only steps away from having flying drones. Now, I worked on the Tomahawk cruise missile program, and we worked specifically on salt water activated missiles that would launch from the sea, so technically we have had flying submersible craft since the 80's I know because I was there. You are therefore wrong! www.google.com/search?q=US+Navy%27s+flying+sub+drone&sca_esv=b94808497f26672b&sca_upv=1&source=hp&ei=Rp-OZpWoNfX-ptQP2ISskAk&iflsig=AL9hbdgAAAAAZo6tVi-yEkT1tB50OWKhzBqzsJEfoLUv&ved=0ahUKEwiV4_zu25yHAxV1v4kEHVgCC5IQ4dUDCBc&uact=5&oq=US+Navy%27s+flying+sub+drone&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6IhpVUyBOYXZ5J3MgZmx5aW5nIHN1YiBkcm9uZTIFECEYoAFI8mRQtR5Y4mJwAXgAkAEAmAHHAqAB3SGqAQgxLjE5LjUuMbgBA8gBAPgBAZgCG6ACtyOoAgrCAhAQABgDGOUCGOoCGIwDGI8BwgIQEC4YAxjlAhjqAhiMAxiPAcICCxAAGIAEGLEDGIMBwgIREC4YgAQYsQMY0QMYgwEYxwHCAgsQLhiABBixAxiDAcICDhAuGIAEGLEDGNEDGMcBwgIOEAAYgAQYsQMYgwEYigXCAgsQLhiABBjRAxjHAcICERAuGIAEGLEDGIMBGNQCGIoFwgIIEAAYgAQYsQPCAgUQABiABMICCBAuGIAEGLEDwgIOEC4YgAQYsQMYgwEYigXCAg4QLhiABBjHARiOBRivAcICBxAAGIAEGArCAg0QABiABBixAxiDARgKwgIKEAAYgAQYsQMYCsICBhAAGBYYHsICBxAAGIAEGA3CAgsQABiABBiGAxiKBcICCBAAGIAEGKIEwgIHECEYoAEYCsICBRAhGKsCmAMMkgcIMi4xOS4zLjOgB8O4AQ&sclient=gws-wiz#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:7de0d537,vid:I3ltznqQp-E,st:0
@@josephmelvin7508 HOW I'M I WRONG... WE DON'T HAVE A FLY SUB. IT'S 2024... THAT'S SHOW WAS IN 1964... DRONES R NOT FLY SHIPS.... THEY R CAMERAS &GUNS. PPL CAN GET INSIDE&FLY THE F.S.
Thank you. Glad you liked the video. I worked with Meta Artifex on this and with another person and have several versions, another is currently being printed.
Model maker's make back round Starfleet ships from star trek big model companies still making the same star trek models for over half a century i top my hat of to you sir for doing something different keep up the good work
Thank you. You're right. They keep making the same models year after year, charging an arm and a leg for cheap, mass-produced styrene kits and most often they are totally inaccurate to the filming models.
Cool! I believe that pattern was also used in the hallways on the Enterprise, too. Along the ceiling as dividers or something. Most likely designed to help hide that the ceiling was open, as well as hiding the set lighting.
Thank you. I'm seriously going with the Comet Cyclone suspension, but I may chop off the ass end and use the tubbed rear wheel wells to put the 50's on the rear. Just because.
Depends? Same size and scale, or other? I'll have to get with you on another forum or through other contact info. Sorry, really can't get into more detail on this platform.
Thank you, a friend of mine and I put a lot of work into getting it right. I've been working in the field for a lot of years now and have connections within the industry and these files were shared with me and I did the conversions years ago and this is the third time I've printed one over a period of time since 2008.
I realize that this presentation is a couple of years old, but Forgive me if I missed it, but how may I obtain one of these kits? Naturally, I don't own a printer. Is there any way that you can be of help? Thanks,😊 -Jim
No Sir, or Ma'am, I was not stoned. I just like to have fun with stuff. I have a very developed sense of humor and enjoy life, sorry if that offended you, or caused some consternation, or misunderstanding. I love life. That's it.
@josephmelvin7508 No offense taken at all, sir. I just thought the video was a little off. It's good to see someone who enjoys what they do. It's a rarity these days. Once again, thank you for sharing this. The TOS Enterprise is looking great!😊
@@JGG1701 I'm not the least bit offended. If I didn't enjoy what I was doing, I wouldn't do it. Frakk what the douchebags say. I'm having fun and having fun making the pro-fess-shionals look sick. LOL! Woohoo!
Thank you. After the last few years, I've been sweating this for a month. Of course there were delays... Of course! LOL! I'm so glad it's here. Taking it across the street for storage as I do not trust the crackheads around here.
Not sure what you mean by that all of these references are documented and accurate to the original filming miniature before any "Restorations" meddling.
@@josephmelvin7508 Those 3 rings behind the collectors is what I'm referring to, if you can compare them to actual photos you'll see what I'm talking about. The only question is are those rings separate or are they molded as 1 piece.
OK, the rings at 1 minute and 19 seconds are indeed pointed the wrong way, but I just picked them up in one hand while holding the camera, the rings are molded as one piece, but they are not part of the sleeve, and the sleeve is not attached to the dome. Hope that clarifies. This is not a completed construction by any means, I was just showing the parts in relation to one another and the size and scale. When the model is done, I can see you being concerned about such a travesty of modeling, but at this point its moot. and not relevant. :)=/\=
At 308 there' an image of the impulse deck pointing out a slight indent on the underside, the reason is because on the ends there was a piece of cloth I think it was which only covered the ends of the impulse housing.
Most people just don't understand that the tv and video of the day blurred out all the details of the model. These were crucial to making it look good on screen. Modellers know all these tricks of shading. The hull plating. It gives a feeling of size and depth onscreen. This is what most people get wrong in their recreations.
David, that's absolutely true to a degree, for sure, but... Those of us who have studied the model for decades and read the books, primarly the making of Star Trek and Star Trek lives, those of us who have gone to the conventions, we've seen the details for decades. However, there are those in "The Community" that give out false information on purpose and there are those who absolutely cannot admit they are wrong, even when show proof and who will gather an enclave of minions that will back them to the last and that muddy the waters on some of the details, because they are privy to certain information, but not aware of everything. Personally, I know that Matt Jeffries did not want a bunch of greeblies like the Star Wars models and there is minimal "Plating" on this ship. I prefer to build a fresh, pristine Enterprise model, something that looks like it rolled out of dry dock yesterday.
Man, I'm glad they undid that monstrosity of a "restoration" the Smithsonian did in the 90s. Broke my heart to see the grand old dame tarted up like that.
I built this kit in 1980 and did not gave any of the issues you are describing, i was a fussy modeler so i would have remembered any issues. Maybe some were better than others. The sci fi shows from that era were so cool.
Thank you. I sincerely appreciate your comments. It was a labor of love. I wanted to do the best I could to help out the church and to do a good job and present a positive view of the church..
I would guess that some weasel douchebag like you complained and put a cc strike on the video. That doesn't discount the factual presentation of the video. That only means that some ass hole had to be a dick and tried to fuck it up for eveyone. right?
Thank you. Very happy to do this. I've argued some facts that were self-evident in these photos and clips for years and have had "The Know it All's" tell me I didn't know what I was talking about, or they would use some super-secret photo from Billy Bob Bumblesnatch to Prove me wrong. It's all been so funny, for so long and to use Rodenberry's own vault references to prove that I was correct all along has given me great joy indeed.
@@josephmelvin7508 I would never criticise somebody for doing what they can with the resources that they have. You’re just extending your admiration for Star Trek to others. My wife and I went to I think the first Star Trek convention (early 70s) at the Commodore Hotel in Manhattan. That was a very exciting time.
@@Bippy55 Yes, it was an exciting time indeed. My stepfather took me to the 76 New York convention, had a great time and was very young, it was the strangest experience I had had.
I assembled this kit in the Summer of 1971, so it must have been the very first Aurora. I recall the drawing on the box was the one with the purple sky in the background. The protective mesh on the left headlight was partially missing. What I like about this kit is the removable midsection, as well as the presence of an engine room with two turbines. I'm now completing the (in comparison) very big Moebius version. Couldn't resist installing working lights for the consoles etc., but the upper and lower halves aren't an easy fit, same for the front window section. The hind door opens up to a corridor, which makes more sense than those exposed turbines, but I still miss that little engine room.
Thank you for sharing that. I need to get back on these builds. 2023 was a very hectic year. I enjoy both kits, these smaller ones and the larger one. I just never seem to have enough time these days to hunker down and get through the builds. Thank you for your input and comments.
There's three different sizes out there now, one larger than the one you got, yours, and a smaller one that's part of a three model package deal that has the Flying Sub, the Mini Sub and Diving Bell.
I remember the one I built as a kid (early to mid seventies) - the upper middle section of the hull never fitted correctly. However, for someone with space issues, this kit is a lot more friendly than the Moebius monster. I have both of these and the more recent 1/128 mini kit in the stash but I'd love to have a second Aurora kit to build....... BTW - not seen any 3d files for this - please post a link if you've found one?
Jeff, I see these kits cheap on ebay all of the time and have gotten every one for less than $25.00. There are several different printable files on Yeggi, Thingiverse, CG Trader, Blend Swap and on and on, all you have to do is use google.
