I find it so deeply hilarious that I never touched the pokeathlon because it seemed too complicated to be worth the effort😂and by golly I was RIGHT lmao! also, I hate that you mentioned the HGSS safari zone, bc now I really wanna see you do a proper deep dive on that at some point. I'm doing the cute charm glitch to get a full shiny living dex and by golly am I not looking forward to that part.....
It looks great! I've never seen a program with a whole brush cursor tho what is this? Also love the Sonic Mega Collection music 😌 lots of nostalgia for me looking thru the comics on it
i never touched contests as a kid as far as i can recall but pokeathlon was my THING i loved it and also was endlessly frustrated by it since of course i had no way of knowing all the 1 billion mechanics that actually go into winning. i mostly did power course with typhlosion gyarados and ... either a second gyarados or lugia (i don't quite remember). i also strongly agree with what you said about them intending for HGSS to be played for a LONG TIME, it feels like there were little daily events built into the world that were meant for you to keep coming back to, almost similar to something like animal crossing. i kind of want to start a fresh save to keep for years and try to see how much of it i can experience. honestly as a kid i was too scared to take on the league after beating claire and getting lugia so i just wandered the region for several years and was plenty entertained by it, before eventually resetting my save to try to do a nuzlocke with a friend. (honestly i still really regret resetting my save since i didn't even trade my starter to another game or anything ;___;) also last thing i really enjoy how you present and build off of previous information in these videos, they feel a lot more like "teaching" than "listing facts" if that makes sense. i feel like you would do really well at making educational videos on other subjects too, if that's something that interests you! i know these are primarily for entertainment but the way you break down complex information does make it really easy to grasp and that's not a skill everyone has.
I have played the pokeathlon myself, but only for the purpose of getting early evolution stones. Specifically, you can get shiny stones for your togepi, and then have a togekiss whenever you're ready to evolve it. but it'd definitely be on my mind for any other pokemon I intend to run that evolve by stone.
ooooh pokeathlon my beloved!! one summer break i spent an embarrassing amount of time playing ONLY the jump course over and over with my cute lil chimecho :D
I encounteted Mirage Island as a kid. I can't say it was fully organically because I used the game guide (the book you bought seperately), but I was not aware of how rare it was. While it wasn't the first time I looked, it didn't have me looking for many days.
Whirlipede isn't a cocoon Pokémon. Centipedes don't undergo any sort of pupation. Granted, Venipede and Whirlipede might also take inspiration from pill millipedes(which are really cool btw, imagine a roly poly the size of a golf ball that can come in funky colors)(Scolipede doesn't seem to have any millipede inspiration, in fact its name is taken from scolopendra), but those don't pupate either, so my point still stands. It is just a round freak that had its hellspawn shrieking rights removed in XY, not a cocoon.
Imagine if Chikorita had Clorophyl instead of Leaf Guard. Would totally make sense for this event, especially with your great idea of it being sunrise.
YES DUDE SHE LOOKS STUNNING!!! I was genuinely just admiring these icons in the Potential Room a little while ago (and staring longingly at my unobtained Pennant Capture trophy)
I love waiting a week to get a fire stone for my growlithe from the pokeathlon since I started playing on a Wednesday and just missed the single day it’s available for the week! Yippee!
I loved the pokeathalon as a kid! I had a ho-oh that i loved, so I'd just play a bunch of the jumping courses with random other bird pokemon in my PC. I remember messing with the juice mechanic but it didn't make any sense!
A personal theory for the reason of Seedot's stats: in a handful of things a seed is used as a symbol of compressed, raw potential. Seedot, being a seed, was given a full 25 stars worth of potential.
By the way, from my experience with hatching eggs, it is easier to gain steps by find a path on the bikeway where you can let go of the D-Pad as your character speeds down slightly faster than going up hill. This could be just placebo talking as I am now second guessing myself if that actually reduces the amount of time to reach X number of steps as you do need to immediately bike back up the hill every time to repeat the process.
I always imagine for these pre-Switch Pokémon game mechanics that the developers go on this Lovecraft-like arc where they slowly lose their minds which is why certain things are barely explained if at all or seem very arcane in terms of how they actually function.
I played the crap out of the pokeathalon. Stayed up late playing in bed until my hand cramped playing it. I've been sad there hasn't been anything close since.
one thing that wasn't mentioned about the ORAS Regigigas is that apparently you don't even get all the hints in the same game I remember my ORAS guidebook saying the girl in Pacifilog will only give out one hint per save file without mentioning any of the other hints! yea you can go online and find all the hints but I still think that adds to the complexity somewhat
insane that you were writing the script over half a year ago, its amazing how much effort was put into this and your other videos, really appreciated :D
