Those cracks that reveal the humanity were beautifully exploited by Brett, his closeups of facial expression - flashes. I'm grateful for this all to be brief bit, but thank you.
I see a number of comments from people not knowing that Brett did comedic roles. Check out An Ideal Husband, On Approval, The Merry Widow (where he also sings), the Rivals, and Love's Labour's Lost. The last one actually makes Shakespeare understandable and his Berowne is top-notch. As of this date they're all on RU-vid.
I watch are you film a night before I go to bed I was destroyed the day I opened up the paper to find out he had passed I slammed my fist on my desk in shock I haven’t got over it he’s my favorite actor of all time because he brought to life my favorite character of all time God bless him I hope he’s solving problems on the other side lol 😎
With Jeremy - there is definitely a 'rabbit away'. He strikes me as a man, who married, with 'game' still in his sights. He was a woofter and his protrayal of Sherlock was a betrayal of the character with his 'hammed up' performance.
Oohhh Liz Fraser she was a peach😍😍😍 I remember having a MAJOR crush on her after seeing her as Pike's mother in the film version of Dad's Army (1971)!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jeremy Brett had a David Bowie voice. Or was it the other way around. Brett and Bowie should have impersonated one another. It would have been a wonderful listen.
The best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, period. The Granada series of Sherlock Holmes & Peter Falk's Columbo remain my favourites - The good news - they're both now available on Blu-ray.
Brett gave a great rendition of Holmes, and he seems to have been a very nice individual in real life. Having read all the books and stories of SH, and watched many TV portrayals, I think Brett came close to the definitive Holmes, but I think Basil Rathbone was great as well. Roger Moore or Christopher Lee as SH, nope, I'm afraid not!
Beautiful, handsome, hot... Ok, ok, ok ! But if he had been only good-looking, having died in 1995, he would be long forgotten. And yet, people who discover him only now, in the various non Sherlockian performances of his available on YT, realise how very unique his talent was. It is this UNIQUE TALENT, once it is acknowledged in its richness and versatility, that makes him loved with accuracy for the great actor he was, and for ever, by more and more newcomers. "L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." (Saint-Exupéry, "Le Petit Prince")😂
Maybe that's why he was so above and beyond. Not only did his personality perfectly suit the role, but he constantly had to strive hard to "find" Holmest, which if you think about it, is what every reflective person does, trying to find themselves.
Jeremy Brett was excellent in the 1973 ATV production of The Merchant of Venice. His acting was sublime compared to Laurence Olivier's tendency to go over the top with his.
@ 3:00 mark....it took tremendous strength and courage for Jeremy to discuss these matters. Enough wasn't said about that. His acting and his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes are an inspiration. Rest in Peace Jeremy Brett.
I just discovered Jeremy and Holmes around the new year. Watched every night before bed. Now I'm having to rewatch episodes. I watch other Jeremy Brett TV but none are like Granada series.
Hi there is a book called Granada's greatest detective by Keith Frankel,it covers the series and interviews of the stars, sadly no photos, if you enjoy the series it's a nice companion, Paul in the UK
I wish it were possible to buy the TV version of 'Rebecca' in which Jeremy Brett played Maxim de Winter. He was wonderful, as in everything else. And yes of course he is the absutely perfect Homes - I saw him on stage in the role as well as on television. Such a great actor.
