It took me a very long time to repot my Elizabeth Ann Buckleberry. It had no viable roots and I have it in a place where I knew I would bump it occasionally when reaching for the orchids behind it. To make it more secure, I put notches around the rim of the round plastic container so I could string fishing line across it. Roots are growing, so I’m hopeful, but it may be a while before it blooms. It was a rescue from a friend and all of the leaves are about half the size of yours. My friend kept it outside in summers and didn’t fertilize during those months. Hopefully, the new growth will be larger now.

I have a Zygonisia, Vandas, Bulbophyllums, Catasetinae, Phrags and a couple Paphs. I would appreciate any advice you may have on Zygos. I am finding conflicting info on moisture levels for Zygos. Keep moist or let dry between watering?
@alanm9523
@alanm9523 25 дней назад
@ForeverOrchids Hi, some say zygos are semi terrestrial, and can tolerate finer mix. Mine are in pure sphag, loosely packed but plant is not wobbly. I actually keep a little dryer than I would for example oncidium intergenerics, especially the fine-rooted ones. To me the watering is a bit like a common phal hybrid, fairly dry but not for any length of time. Sphag feels dry and crispy on top but if you dig to the lower layers it would feel lightly moist, that's when I water.
@ForeverOrchids
@ForeverOrchids 25 дней назад
@@alanm9523 Alan, that sounds great. I believe the one I own is in sphagnum moss. I have not repotted since acquiring in April of this year but it has moss on the top. In my grow space, my Phals. get watered sometimes once a month because the moss is still damp for that long. I will just keep and eye on the Zygo. It finished blooming and now seems to be developing the pseudobulb from that blooming. The previous bulb has lost a leaf which was concerning. I took the plant to my local orchid society and it was suggested that chlorine in tap water may have caused the yellow leaf.

I was reading about Australian Dendrobiums & it said they are hungry plants thru spring & summer. Give them Blood & Bone fertilizer as well as a sprinkle of dolomite lime. Plus ‘chook poo’ fertilizer from the hardware shop. Don’t feed them with growth fertilizer thru Autumn & Winter as it encourages keiki growth. I’m in Australia & Google info. from Aussie growers.

@@roslynbarclay1000 I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I am feeding with a fertilizer plus calcium magnesium supplement. Sometimes mixed together other times separately. 2:00 I think dendrobiums produce keikis from the top for essier propagation. The top of the cane becomes so top heavy that it ends up coming into contact with the ground or whatever is around.
@ForeverOrchids
@ForeverOrchids Месяц назад
@@Joe-nj3bb Another reason that this den produces keikis, I have recently learned, is due to higher nitrogen fertilizer. A balanced fertilizer is a better choice.
@Joe-nj3bb
@Joe-nj3bb Месяц назад
@@ForeverOrchids From my research, I found out that keikis can be produced by low light and more water/fertilizer. I got my first one in February and it made a new cane which has matured, as well as, a bunch of new roots. I also got the Hibiki recently and it already has four buds developing. It came with two keikis which I removed and potted separately. It is compact so far and it looks nice with my young schilleriana, bellina, and violacea which are taking their sweet time to grow.
