A part of me feels this is surprisingly accurate to Scout’s shit go at life in the comics. Abandoned by Spy, ridden with a horrible inferiority complex stemming from being the youngest fatherless child of eight, dragged into mercenary work from a need to feel powerful, and then belittled by everybody around him as weak and stupid when he’s never had anyone to really guide him. He’s thrown into endless life or death situations that even the most hardened of men would struggle with, unable to figure out his feelings for Pauling, let alone express them, gutted by a robot and left to die in his estranged father’s arms, and then sent back to earth knowing he’ll die young. Scout’s got a fucking horrible life, but he’s able to roll with the punches better than anybody else on the team. And despite it being an AI shitpost, this touches a cord on the kind of raw determination Scout has to keep going, in the face of all his suffering.
