This is my journey in Entropia Universe, join me for a video or two, let me know what you think! I am a non-depositing player that spends a lot of time focusing on the simple free things in game, my hunts may not be the largest, but I am detailed in my approach and in my tactics. I do my best to respond to everyone's comments so feel free to say hi and talk!
Never played OD&D (started with BECMI Basic and 1E shortly after and then 2E) and it's fascinating to see how some of the rules evolved from the original Chainmail and OD&D. I can definitely see the beginnings of what would later be the Weapon Speed rules that altered initiative to reflect how fast you could swing and recover with the weapon. I've started looking into 5E and noticed the oversimplification of combat rules that I think has taken away a lot of the verisimilitude of combat. A sword-wielding fighter and a dagger-wielding thief with the same DEX and initiative roll that go head-to-head against each other should not be acting at the same time, the thief with his more easily wielded and faster dagger should be able to attack the fighter first. Haven't seen my books in years (buried in storage 2000 miles away) and I wish I could look at them to compare the rules in this video with the ones in 1E just to see the similarities and changes in the crunchiness of the combat rules. I also like the cross-reference chart at 43:35 that clearly shows the interaction between opponent wielding the same or different weapon types.
Thanks I appreciate that, have other aids cards like that I am looking to get out and more videos like this to come soon. I have a lot of 1e books myself. I originally started in 1989 playing 2nd ed ad&d myself. I ran a BX campaign for several years but going back into OD&D is worth it in my opinion as I could see where they working from and makes a lot of rules they selected later make since to why they did.
Thanks for making this presentation on Chainmail, its history, how it was played and the comparison/contrast/miscellania between it and the later games. There ought to be more videos on it given the long-term impact it had.
Oh I agree, I have more videos coming out soon talking about the relationship between Original Dungeons & Dragons and Chaimail combat systems. That said one could for sure be done to show where wargames were before and after Chainmail and how other companies used their changes to the wargame.
a good loop on the moon is, hunt the sicarus brutes [green] for muscle and eye oil, craft simple 1 conductors, then hunt oompas for adrenial oil to craft simple 2 conductors, after that jump onto the red sicarus the lv15 range and hunt for kidney oil to make simple 3 conductors, and finally hunt the highest level oompas [lv 25 range] for the brain oil to craft simple 4 conductors
Thanks for the breakdown! I'd been struggling hard to figure out how OD&D xp worked, so having the words flash on screen and your breakdowns of the various XP systems (and when they were added) helped a ton!
That is awesome I am glad you liked it, I am thinking about doing this for other aspects of OD&D too, I hope you get a chance to see those too, I would love the feedback!
@@dmxoan I would love that! One issue I've struggled mightily with is "skill checks", like what to actually do when a character is trying something noncombat like Strength-checking a door or Charisma-checking an NPC. According to my research the concept just doesn't seem to exist in OD&D, like ability scores don't have mechanics to affect that and you had to 'GM fiat' any sort of noncombat/roleplaying stuff without dicerolls. If it's more complicated than that and the official rules include any options whatsoever for more 'skill check' style mechanics, I'd love a video on the topic!
That for sure is worth a video and for sure is not straight forward. The short is it is lot of arbitrary fiat but they would apply a logic to it that works for them. It was less of a focus they had not because they were against it, but because they had not thought a lot about it yet. However, if they had thought about it, what would they have done would be a great question in my opinion too.
Thanks, I agree actually, I thought I had it down enough, but I feel I need to be a touch louder an the crafting to be down about 30%. I am glad you like this kind of testing, I will have more soon.
After checking my math I was wrong about Medium range on a Long Bow, Long Bows are 21" (wargame), which converts to 210' (battlemap), divide that by 3rds you get 0-70 (short) 71-140 (Medium) & 141 to 210 is (Long). I was also using the wrong column too, so I was basically shooting short range the whole time. I have made a better matrix to fix this.
Btw, you can ignore scale in Chainmail. Probabilities stay approximately the same no matter the scale you pick: 1:1, 1:10, 1:20, 1:100. The main reason why scale was introduced in the first place is to convert real historic battles into miniature counts. As soon as you put miniatures on the board, scale doesn’t matter anymore.
I am aware that, though the nature of scale combat IE mass combat and something on a character scale is complexity. For example Hit Points vs binary hit equals death. In larger scale games a hit = death, in some smaller scale games you might have to hit and wound, and in a d&d game they have hit points. If that makes sense.
Oh boy, OD&D and Chainmail. Great to see more people talking about these games! However, they are written in such a manner that many rules can be interpreted multiple different ways. And every time somebody explains the rules, you grimace and yell at the screen “You’re reading it wrong!” We even created an entire community on rules disagreements and discussions.
I believe that is the literal butter the bread is buttered with. GW was known for having a book release with errata and updates and still having more than one understanding. A main reason I talk about it here is to give context to some who might be new. Thanks for the comments though, I have a lot more coming out soon talking about these types of games. If there is something specific you want me to cover let me know as we go!
I can win at the casino "What is a pyramid scheme in simple terms? A pyramid scheme is a fraudulent system of making money based on recruiting an ever-increasing number of "investors." The initial promoters recruit investors, who in turn recruit more investors, and so on. The scheme is called a "pyramid" because at each level, the number of investors increases." I have a better chance to win at the casino its regulated.
No I feel Bad, this is a self imposed thing I am doing, I am wanting to go back and forth between EU content and D&D. Not for any algorithm reasoning, but so I keep track of it myself. This video is important, but probably wont be a hit to be honest, but it is one I need to do right. I hope to have it out soon and then back to more regularly uploads. lol
bro, my wife hunts those without armor at evader 9, you need to look at your professions, did you focus on one thing when you started or dud you spread it out. bro, unreachable DOES NOT SPEND AMMO. Please do some researh before pitting out incorect info, We are both mentors and can confirm a lot of your "Facts" are garbage. I lead one of teh biggest socs in EU , and no, theres no tree missions on caly........................
Well, any negative comment that starts with bro and uses misspelled words is hard to argue with, but I am thankful for the feedback. @captiansolisstarmonger you should watch more of my videos so you can see what research I do, also I would be glad to watch your videos you do if you can send me a link I would appreciate that.
I have not dove into it but my thoughts go towards a "if than" statement that I remember back from when I took some C+ classes in college. This is a series of binary questions [if] the shot hits [than] check for Dodge/Evader, [if] hit [than] check for block chance... and so on
Hey DM Xoan, how about you make a playlist of your campaign diary episodes? This would make it easier for those of us who want to find them and listen to them in order. 😀
Thank you for your comment! My diary videos where something that I enjoyed, and that some of my group actually watched, I think at some point I turned into an explanation of my process for DMing. I didn't like those, but I could see how the diaries are fun to watch, I stumble across a D&D game and I like to watch/listen to them while I do other things. I have been planning to do that anyways again, so I am happy to hear you enjoyed them. I will for sure make a playlist when I do that. Currently this group is still going and they are wrapping up B2, Bogsworth the Halfling and Heinrich the Cleric are the two remaining out of the group Sanev the Elf retired his homeland as a personal request of a Noble, and Squiggles the Dwarf had a baby so had to drop from the game sadly.
This was my first Webcam, my new one is placed somewhere I wouldn't lose it. It is amazing how much better a new one is vs a from a few years ago when have depth of field. I will correct that in future videos.
the author of the sunken cost article was obviously written by someone used to spending other peoples money... or someone who is a gambler. at the very least, written by someone who has never starved. in reality, its called 'lessons learned', when an endeavor is resource intensive, and continuously fails, it is foolish to think the outcome will be any different the next time. yes there are times you have to make it work despite the cost, because one cannot afford any other alternative... and there are times you must just cut your losses, and entropia is just that for myself. i left entropia because the game has shifted from 10$ a month on ammo, to a minimum 20$ a night, and walking away empty handed too many times... gone are the days you can actually get ahead in that game... too many hours spent on just trying to break even, and not having 1000s of $ to get any loot that is actually worth a damn. i loved the game, i had years of fun times, but i am no longer willing to sit at twin peaks for 3 days to make my 1.20$ back on loot no one wants. they want you to get frustrated and just tt it, because then you lose twice. also, its absurd that a gun in that game can sell for more than the price of 5-10 real irl firearms. insanity. i only log in once a month or so, to roll my land area income into more shares/deeds. i dont sell my character off, because it would take years to sell some of the stuff i have anywhere close to what i paid for it. partially i just got tired of everyone trying to lowball the shit out me every single little transaction...
That is an extremely heart felt open story of your journey, hit me up in game next time we both are on if you want. I agree the ability to walk away from something you invested in is a freedom most do not know, my understanding of my position in this whole thing has changed a lot too since I started crafting. I both feel like crafting is a trap for most, but it is one of the few ways to get back what you put in with less risk than Deeds offer.
@@dmxoan I remember meeting you right before life fell apart and couldn't afford to play any longer. You were a good dude. Sorry we never got to go on any digital adventures together.
I still like sweating, I find it relaxing and still get useful skills doing it. When I started we were getting up to 2 ped/bottle during bidding wars at PA back in 2003.
I am in your video again :) nice. I was on Monria or Toulan at that time. I want the new Dark Mage Robe. At the moment I am on Arkadia, if you are close come for some Aakas dungeons.
You can also make PEDs by providing services like I do. For example, sometimes the market doesn't offer the item you want so the need to hire some one to hunt/gather is there. Also you can use your imagination to scrap up some PEDS doing interesting jobs for others. I like your review of the video. It also gives players some tips they haven't taught about.
Thanks I appreciate that. I agree finding that hole in the market can make you money, buy that is harder to do than one might think. From my thinking you would need a rare BP that can't be found by most or higher skill than most
I am not an expert by any means, I have built a few over the years and researched how computer parts with each other when I did. I would say that somewhere there is information being clipped because of an overload, my guess is that since it is on an older game it is not on any of the newer components or we would see this more often
You mentioned sweating misses decreasing as you level up, I haven't done nearly as much sweating as you have, but I'm under the impression that this isn't true, your sweater profession doesn't affect you success chance for sweating or the amount of sweat that you get per pull.
I have not done the testing yet, but the way I understand it is you get a random number of sweat between 1 and 4, and the actual skill for the device is 100. So like a gun you are not proper skill you ha e some failures when you first start, but like old school guns the skill is not as strict as a new school gun that punishes you for only a few points of skill dofference
That is exactly how I felt too, my mage is a Tailor, Herbalist, & Cook all are at 225. He was a Skinner too at 150 skill for a while for the resources. My Hunter is a Engineer, Miner, & Cook all between 150 & 225.
Citrine I havent seen in boars but I know you can get it from the portal guardian robots. Bloodstone and Phen both come from cyclops of low maturity in Anchient Greece area. There is also a Daily in Kamba teleport.
I didn't realize the cores were used for that but I have been doing the core crafting daily. I also diddnt know you could get that drop from the L.A.R.A.'s Thanks for the Info, it really changes up my game play
Great vid, I am heading to Toulan tomorrow so will follow the chain to check this instance out, and your audio seems a lot better now so I don't need to have mean volume up so much :D keep up the great series
Thanks, I am posting soon the other 2 videos for these Hidden Instances if you haven't seen them. I plan to cover the later CUHOFs too early next year, and I am going to do a recap of loot for CUHOF 1 and 2 very soon as well
Yeah sorry this was a bit of a phase. My computer audio during this time was going out, so I when I made videos it was more of a guess of how it sounded until I uploaded it and could listen on my phone. I have since replaced the sound card and I have fixed that issue. There is also a bit too much computer fan in these too and that was fixed at the same time.
