“I was dancing with an immortal august woman, who had black lilies in her hair, and her dreamy gesture seemed laden with a wisdom more profound than the darkness that is between star and star, and with a love like the love that breathed upon the waters; and as we danced on and on, the incense drifted over us and round us, covering us away as in the heart of the world, and ages seemed to pass, and tempests to awake and perish in the folds of our robes and in her heavy hair. Suddenly I remembered that her eyelids had never quivered, and that her lilies had not dropped a black petal, or shaken from their places, and understood with a great horror that I danced with one who was more or less than human, and who was drinking up my soul as an ox drinks up a wayside pool; and I fell, and darkness passed over me.” ― W.B. Yeats, Rosa Alchemica
The door is open, and sadly the back yard fence is scaled. If it were my home, I'd have a bigger wall and a locked door. Knock kindly and I may let you in if you're a good person.
Lovely song and atmospheric, however I’m moved by the story the lady is telling about marrying the wrong person . I hope your life got lots better once you got home .
Ewan was a great writer of radical and revolutionary songs....generations will hear and heed the lyrics.Saw him perform in the NCH Dublin just a few years back. The working class have a true hero in the memory of the man. The struggle continues.
This song is as relevant today as it was 60 years ago. I remember the apprehension we had growing up in the 1960s because of the threat of nuclear war, the apprehension still exists today. Have we learnt nothing in the past 60 years?
And by the way it aint the end of the road yet and the sun will shine here in my little Lane, I have made its own little micro climate. Up the hill the wind might be blowing but we dont feel it here on the hillside. Dont let me down, we can do this, eh?
That is all we all need right now, a feelgood song. Pleased you are feeling better now. Did you see that "Madness" have put out this week on their page new songs from their tour?
