Was there last wednesday , no mist though , there are signs asking people NOT to walk through the woods , but to walk around the edge (northern edge) , and that's what people were doing .
Another wonderful walk. Good musical accompaniment. And of course good variety of landscape. Bravo for a job well done to the both of you. I will continue with your walks and when done, will start over with walk one. You are the best
Started at pt 2. Came back for pt1. You capture what in my mind as a Canadian a British village is. As I know that at my age I will not be walking there, I have to say a big thank you for a wonderful experience.
Hi David ,interesting video..............My Dad worked at Nuthamstead in the latter part of ww2 he was Employed by the Air Ministry and as a civilian was attached to the USAF Bomber group , As a Child I remember Visiting the base around 1952 it was still operating, and the approach road was still stacked with piles of Bombs for about a Mile ...........Also I remember there was a lake close to the airbase we used to have picnics , I was Born at Bishops Stortford and we lived at''High Cross '', in 1953 we Moved to Australia , But you have brought back many memories
An excellent video yet again David. Like you, I have also thought that Arthur Percival was treated shabbily by people who should have known better. Not all our war heroes were treated well, just think of the shameful things that happened to Alan Turing, which culminated in his suicide.
Hello David. I came across your excellent videos by pure chance and have been catching up with them. Hertfordshire is a very underestimated county in my view. Like many people I have traversed the county for years when using the A1, A10, A505 etc., while travelling back and forth to my home in West Suffolk. As your videos demonstrate, it really is worthwhile to stop and look at the towns and villages just off the major roads. Not to mention the very fine pubs to be enjoyed.
England is so beautiful not like Canada. Something gets old we rip it down. Not to many memories of the past except kn Quebec and the maritime provinces. So sad.
Thanks for a very interesting albeit horrific story. I once lived in Westmill as child between the ages of 4 and 8, and lived in the old thatched cottage with the lavender painted front door directly across from the Tea Room (which used to be the village shop and post office back in 1970s). I have very fond memories of Westmill, and the Sword In Hand, as it was in 1970 before the fire, which I think was in the late 1990s.
Thank you for this video. I am English living in Glasgow Scotland since February 2015. I respect the tradition of kilts and bagpipes but enjoy the Rnglish Morris dancing as someone who lived in England for 57 years.
I all but grew up in North Devon from the 1960s on till I was 21 with Dad n Mum, grandparents, aunts n uncles we would go to on Hols to North Devon Croyde bay, Barnstable, Ilfracombe. Such happy childhood, then early adulthood with my children. Clovelly was back then very special and still so although very much more commercial now still a great place like the last piece of England as was . 6 generations of my family have been going to Devon for 100yrs . Gods own county. Thanks for posting this takes me right back mum has film of my sister n I on the beach I'm about4 she's maybe 18mths playing in the sea happy glorious times, that went by to fast .
Love your films.. As a lover of Hertfordshire history.. One of the most interesting things about Sacombe is that it still has its celtic or bretonic name.. Sacombe means wood at the end of the valley.. Hertfordshire has a lot of places with their bretonic names as there are no saxon settlements till around 620 and it remained a romano british enclave until the saxons became Christian . You may say why is that.. The answer is quite simmple..ST, Alban the british saint and martyr.. The romano british did not want ST Albans tomb to fall into pagan hands.. Keep up the good work you two 😊
Hello David, A Great walk. I very recently did a similar walk; Buntingford to Royston via Ansty (which includes walking through the old airfield! You wher lucky above Hare Street that the path existed accross the field! When we did it we had to walk around the edge as the farmer had not re-established the path!! Unfortunately a common issue. Please keep upthe good videos
The tree is Davidii Involucrata (I hope I got the spelling right) Ours is growing here in Kent on our camping ground. We refer to the white ''handkerchiefs'' as bracts, which each carry a seed. The tree is one of the most beautiful I've seen in this country. It is a favourite at Kew gardens in London, where it has been grown since 1903. I planted this one here many years ago, and wondered if I would still be alive when it was showing the bracts as it is very slow growing, but have been rewarded with the display now over the past 5 or 6 years. Another interesting tree I found which is pre-historic, and was re-discovered there back in the 1950's I believe, is the Metasequoia glyptostroboides. That grows well here too. Very nice filming - thank you. If you look online, you will find several nurseries that can supply either of these trees, with varying prices.😀
4:21 around 2001-2002 I stayed in that cottage with my primary school it’s the only trip I remember in full detail I stayed in the bottom room top bunk right hand side of the door and everyone was scared because of the branches hitting the windows 😂 my best my favourite memory was setting mammal traps I caught a vole 😂 I’ll never forget it
My dad was a B-17 pilot in the 398th stationed at Nuthampstead throughout 1944. Flew his 31 missions, landing his plane twice with the hydraulics shot out. Wouldn't talk about the war for many years, but later researched and compiled a big book of all his missions, including targets, results, pilots and crews of each plane on the mission, etc. Passed away in 2009.
@@arcadia449 Very interesting and detailed. Hard to believe he was only 25 with all that responsibility and danger. My boys at age 25 were drinking beer and watching football.
This video is great. My grandparents live in Standon(I am back to visit them) and only the last week I decided to explore these walks and they are amazing, I can’t believe I’ve never done them before! I live in Italy now, this video will be me go to anytime I feel homesick. Thank you for your work 🙏🏾
