"Sie" references the spacecraft, so what they thoroughly checked was the spacecraft, not checking in a person aboard. The only person on board is Major Tom. 1:55 "Wissenschaftliche Experimente". Nouns are always capitalized in German. Other than that, this video holds up to the scrutiny of a very pedantic German.
