The US Autism Association is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization which boasts a proud network of world-renowned professionals with expertise in Autism. We hold the belief that if you want to understand autism, you must ask someone who is diagnosed. For this reason, the US Autism Association draws heavily from its Advisory Board, a majority of whom are either diagnosed themselves or are parents of those diagnosed. For more information, please visit our website at www.usautism.org.

The US one of the greatest countries in the world extending their values all over the world. There is no structural violence in the US. They understand issues very deeply it is not like they create superficial solutions. Etc etc

I'm autistic and I was severely abused by a teacher in middle school and I feel like it changed my way of reacting to certain stimuli forever even though I'm in therapy and take meds I don't think certain things are ever going to fully Disappear With Me

The problem in Florida is the group who trains the police on autism with zero autistic representation. I have faced harassment, discrimination and unnecessary use of force by the lake county sheriff's department in Florida. They treat autism as if it's illegal. One cop grabbed me so hard he seriously bruised my wrist. He wanted me to fight back. They refuse to protect me when I am being threatened by my nazi neighbor. They treat me like a child and don't respect my human and civil rights. When they have no reason to arrest me they try to baker act me even though it's supposedly not supposed to be used for autistic people. They have pointed guns at me many times and on a supposed wellness check I caught them in video talking about how they would shoot me from 100 yards outside of my gate. I am a late diagnosed autistic adult, educated, independent living and have a small equine rescue. My donkey almost got shot for attempting to protect from the thug police but I stepped between them as my donkey was rearing up and about to attack. 5 guns were drawn on him but I stepped in-between just in time pushing him back in his pen. They then tackled me by my thumb so painfully I dropped to my knees and I suffered multiple fractures and the tendon ripped from bone. I am an artist blacksmith, farrier and metal worker. I couldn't swing a hammer for a year and it still hurts when I work. I couldn't draw with it for over 6 months. Ruining my dreams and my career. I have suffered sexual harassment from the cops and multiple civil rights violations. I asked for and got no accommodations. I have been falsely accused of a few things having to defend myself from 3 restraining orders successfully because the accusers blatantly lied, changed their story , got caught forging fake emails and using misleading information. Like I called my sister when my mother was having a heart attack and coding in the ambulance at my house. She used that against me... If people blatantly abuse the legal system and get caught in front of the judge why are they not held accountable. The two groups did it to emotionally distress me and financially distress me because I had to get a lawyer. These people lie and constantly try to get me in trouble with the law and because there are no consequences for their abuse of the process even when it's exposed blatantly in front of the judge.

They’re not gonna learn it unless somebody exposed system is exactly what every single millennials and Genzie has been screaming about regardless, if they’re on the spectrum or not because how are we supposed to learn if nobody shows us and teaches us we’re expected to know instead of learn

Being a visual, thinker by my description is lake seeing two dimensional pictures in 3-D When you’re younger is super confusing But as you’re older, you’ve learned harness it by essentially deconstructing items in your head, and figuring out how they work without taking it apart So when you do take it apart It makes sense to put it back together because you disassemble it in your head already.

Even though I never really liked being touched, I would say my best teachers are the ones that taped me on the shoulder or the top of the head to get my attention when I’m not paying attention in class Find a physical correction with no need to apologize helps me re engage But if the teacher asked me to pay attention, I apologize and then it breaks the lesson and I feel bad and don’t absorb any of the information because I just sit there feeling bad about not paying attention

Not every childs going to be "rain man"....even with brilliant teachers and everyone focused on the best outcome, my nephew cannot form a coherent sentence. Its not as easy as "exposing" them to all feilds until you find their genius strength. Just trying to be real.

Can he do other things than form sentences? You don't need language to do most things, its only helpful for communicating ideas that you can't physically demonstrate

Our daughter is fascinated with horses. I got her into role playing on a game called star stable. Now she has a social group, learning to type, spell, read, write descriptively. Teaching her fractions with cake peices. Learned her letters with food coloring, shaving cream and a ziplock bag. I do wild things and it works and clicks.I pulled my kiddo and homeschool in a public charter school. I don't feel our public school system or medical system gets it.

Word kid here. Math? Did I walk right up to my teacher and tell her I was not doing it anymore? Yep. I told her I'll give you an A in every other subject, but this? No. I don't understand it, it's way too rigid for me. I hate it. Stuck out my hand for a proper business deal handshake. It was not reciprocated. But guess who got a passing D? Yeah buddy! Sometimes you have to advocate for yourself. Years later I would find out that I actually have a form of math dyslexia. (it exists) In addition to being on the spectrum, this was not surprise at all! I struggled so hard, get your kids tested if they keep struggling and you're not seeing any improvement with traditional means like tutoring. But, does this make me feel less than, no! They can do my math & I will write their essays instead. By

I think a great amount of individuals enter the policeforce because they cannot find any other avenue to get a job. Many of them feel extremely frustrated and wearing the uniform gives them the impunity to act on it
