I recently started to make video reviews for various products that i have bought. I am not afiliated with those company's, I don't get paid nor do I get them free.
I buy them mostly for myself and for my family and occasionally friends ask me to buy stuff on their behalf but I get the satisfaction to do a review before I hand it over.
I'm no professional reviewer but I love making my little video's and telling you folks what i think of a particular product. I give my honest opinion.
I usually do alot of online research before i buy things so I'm pretty good at getting something pretty decent.
So no zone focusing with a Helios lens, is that right? It’s kinda like a variable ND filter. I just got one myself, and this was so confusing for me, but I think I’m right in what I’m asking.

It appears you've not made a video in a while...nonetheless, thank you for your lens handling videos! They're very informative and your soft voice is easy to listen to while ingesting your instruction. Your Helios Infinity Focus video brought me here, and I've watched most of your instructional vids. Hi Jeff, Thank you for your tutorial, I bought a camera lens a few months ago from eBay and I know now that I should have tested it out properly but instead only shot a couple of frames to check the focus before putting it away. (big mistake!) I was away for a few days last week and did a shoot where took it with me and not long into shooting I started to notice the front barrel assembly was coming a bit loose and so I stopped using it waiting to get home so I could examine it more closely. I did and it looks as though the screws inside may have worked loose, I decided that I will try to repair it myself and am confident that I should be able to do this and if I don't then it won't matter as it's unusable in the present state. I bought the wrench and thanks to your well-presented tutorial feel ready to start on my 'Samyang AF 35mm f:1.4 FE' front assembly, which I will do as soon as it arrives taking the precautions you so kindly pointed out. Thank you for info- just got a 20mm in from Japan- i thought it was defective! Its not, i also read the Takumar rear cap is designed to allow you to toggle the A/M when its on also
The lens does not have an infinity focus issue. The camera it's mounted to may have an infinity focus issue. If the camera is designed for a flange focus distance greater than the M42 mount (45.46 mm), then the camera will not focus to infinity without additional optical elements. If the camera is designed for a flange distance less than the M42 mount, then the adapter can provide the additional spacing needed. Some Canon cameras have a problem with the Helios 44-2 and other M42 lenses, even though the flange focus distance for the Canon EF mount is less than the M42 mount. The Canon full frame DSLRs have a large mirror and the rear element on the Helios 44-2 extends far enough back into the camera body at infinity focus that the mirror will hit it. You can get around this by shooting in Live View, which locks the mirror up.
Great video and better for no close ups Jeff.... I use some German brake cleaner I have used before to encourage iris blades with drying with cotton buds....super very pleased...!!
Hi! I have a takumar like this and I am struggling to use it with an adapter because the longest tab hits the adapter so it prevents the correct coupling of adapter and lens. I am wondering if is it posible to remove that tab disassembling the lens or whether it is possible to cut it somehow. So i would be glad to here your advice about what option is best. The adapter is a fotodiox M42 to MD Mount.
I wanted to ask you a question Jeff! When doing this operation on my Nikon D500, will it not rub against the mirror when shooting a photo with the back of the lens being inserted a little inside it? Thank you
