its a treat finding these kind of kpop content videos where an album, songs, genre, producers get discussed :D i havent listened to shinee in years and went back to this album recently, so this video showed up at the perfect time as i obsses over the album again! its absolutely insane how stacked this album is!
sure! i already have one going for my favorite 2024 comebacks, if that's what you're interested in: open.spotify.com/playlist/2kYYELgj9arQ7K7v0ntp99?si=df54cedb8cdf4128
um according to my calculations ☝🤓 babe you have taste... shinee and onlyoneof r literally one of the best kpop groups i know. the *pinch* of tripleS and kai?? love it!! you chose some of the best songs too ugh we love to see it
overall thoughts: ive's best & most cohesive album to date tbh. i didn't necessarily have any expectations going into this, but like, i'm shocked (in a good way!) also, we love dem jointz here. overall grade: B+ highlights: heya, accendio, ice queen *note* feel free to disagree with literally anything i said. peace & love.
I was so happy to see this video as I feel that 1of1 is such an overlooked album musically. Fine, I´m kinda biased as it suits my taste in music perfectly. BUT I feel like it is brushed off as a "campy album" bc of the aesthetics (even though I love those as well), when in reality I think it is the blueprint of kpop music trends of today, EIGHT (ATE) years later. Btw, additional info on firstly Don´t Let Me Go: originally supposed to be a Minho - Onew duo song! But was deemed so good they had to include it on the SHINee album. (source: Onew´s guesting episode of Minho´s Best Choice radio show) Second: I think they mentioned in the 1of1 vlive (such a funny one btw) that on U Need Me, a member of the swedish band Dirty Loops added extra oomph to the song by playing bass for it himself.
all A+ from me, except Xoxo A-, honestly I'm not stan Nmixx before, Then I tried to listen to this album, and it all suited my musical taste, there was rarely one album that I could like all the songs other than SEVENTEEN
I'm so proud to be a shawol. Our kings have so many amazing albums and 1 of 1 is one of their absolute best. Feel Good, Prism, Don't Let Me Go.... Just too good
SHINee's "1 of 1" is one of the best albums of 2016. The repackaged album "1 and 1" was also great, and some musicians who were not interested in K-pop became addicted to SHINee's expressiveness after listening to it. All the songs are beautiful, but personally, the first lines of SHIFT and Prism are so beautiful that they gave me goosebumps. I thank the composers. I think Key has been working hard behind the scenes to select songs for SHINee's latest music, but I felt that the B-sides were composed in a similar way, probably because SM will not be able to collect as many good songs as before. It seems like a lot of the songs are in the same vein. And I think there are a lot of people who think it would have been better if they had brought out SHINee's typical freshness and elongation instead of making the title track sound like NCT. It would have been nice to have a cool performance like NCT once in a while, but there was no need for them to compete with their juniors. In terms of composition and song selection, I have to say that Jonghyun's production skills were exceptional. I am sure that the members are the ones who feel this most. .....
oh, i totally agree with u there about shift’s opening line. whenever it comes on, i’m still amazed by “i saw you from the beginning…”really remarkable that they created such an iconic line. i think, overall with SM in the past few years, they’ve been kind of…rough, in terms of music. there’s obviously amazing highlights here and there, but they don’t necessarily live up to past releases. and, nowadays, i think that opinion’s becoming more common tbh. the thing about shinee is that they can twist songs in a way that really brings out their identity, like with hard or don’t call me…but i still have to admit these titles definitely don’t live up to their past ones (imo at least). also, very much agree with u about jjong’s production. genuinely one of the best artists in kpop (and music in general really).
Agreed! The line "I saw you from the beginning" is so beautiful! I was instantly transported to the world of music. In "Prism", the moment Onew started singing (I love the lyrics), it took my breath away...and Jonghyun's ad-libs over it were amazing. Jonghyun was a great artist who deserves a place outside of the K-pop and idol industry, and the great thing about Jonghyun was not only his outstanding vocal expression and stage presence. He always thought about what music should be and had the ability to incorporate this into his work both as a group and as a solo artist. I feel that this is the reason why SHINee's music is universally listened to and loved. Of course, SHINee's power is brilliant in terms of dance and visuals, as well as their passion in live performances, but Jonghyun was certainly at the core of the music side. As a side note, if there is a group that can take over the musicality like SHINee... the possibility could be WayV within SM right now, but they are getting the cold shoulder. ...... However, I have high hopes for WayV as they have a lot of artistic members.
This was my first Shinee comeback 😭💕. I knew after seeing the live stages for the first four tracks that I would love the entire album, and it did NOT disappoint. Thank you for providing so many details into the songs, seeing the producers/writers involved definitely helps explain why they’re all bangers haha. I also appreciate you pointing out the similarities between tracks (like 1 of 1 and So Amazing, or Feel Good and Don’t Stop). It’s one of the most cohesive albums I’ve ever heard, and it almost feels like I’m watching a love story unfold as I listen to each song 😍. Feel Good and Shift are definitely some of my favorite Shinee songs too, but there are too many good choices on this album to discriminate lol!
1 of 1 is my 2nd most ult fav (after Replay) SHINee song, Don't Let Me Go is a flawless song, SHIFT literally shifted things for me, when I was deep diving into SHINee's discography, Feel Good is wildly sensual in a way I never thought I'd feel, Prism oh boy, no other bg would give me a song like that! Lipstick is so groovy, SHINee are the kings of R&B for me! So Amazing is perfect as a closer, an evening out at the beach vibe! U need Me, i gotta confess, I haven't warmed up to it, a tad bit extra dubstep for my liking 😅 I desperately want to know what the genre of Don't Stop is! Synth gives me 80's hippy vibes! Nonetheless, 1 of 1 - A Solid album through & through!
