It is heart breaking the passing of this very passionate and talented man. I had the pleasure of seeing Runrig four times in Scotland. I will go to his burial site and pay my respects 😢😢😢
Wow, what a great story 🥰 I've been a fan of the band for decades, many wonderful memories associated with their music, I bet for every song there's a similar story to this. My great-grandfathers family emigrated to Australia from Scotland in the early 20th century and sadly I have not been back to visit that part of my heritage. Every time I see images of Scotland though there's something that lights up in my heart and I will return before too much longer, maybe there's a pull on my soul or something because I just have to do this. Thank you Runrig for your amazing stories ❣
I miss Bruce so much. This great song was from 'Of your son' which was the first Bruce Guthro album I heard and it's my favourite album that he recorded.
I am English but this group is simply brilliant and this song is fantastic sung with feeling. Fabulous: shame they are no longer but at least I can listen to them whenever I want which is often
What a great song.... not sure exactly what it is about.... but it has great lyrics and rhythms and beat. The percussion and acoustic guitar is brilliant. This is my favourite Runrig song... Along with Skye... I'd love to know what inspired the words.
This is what Calum writes about the song in the Flower of The West Songbook: "We first came across young David Gibson when we were involved in a promotional drive on behalf of the blood transfusion service in Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary. David was a leukaemia sufferer, and as is so often the case with people in that situation, he showed remarkable spirit and determination in the face of adversity. He died shortly after we got to know him. I suppose we saw in him, a little of what we had all experienced with Robert, our accordionist who died of cancer in 1986."
Still have my elpee on Neptune...don't think it will play though. Reminds me of studying Gaelic at Edinburgh in 1988-1990 in the Department of Celtic at Edinburgh.
If anything, this demo just shows how much Dire Straits was a BAND, not backing players for Mark. Mark was certainly the main creative force, but Dave's soft strumming + backing vocals and Pick's slightly ahead-of-beat crisp drumming did so much for their early sound that Mark's solo material never really reclaimed. IMO.
For me, Donnie Munro has the most beautiful male voice in the world as a singer. I often listen to the live concert from Sterling Castle 1997 and always get goosebumps, simply fantastic. For me, Runrig is like breathing air. My favorite song: "Going home". Many kind regards from Germany
I always liked this song, the music and and never really understood the words until Jesus Christ became my Lord and King, he revealed a truth that you all know when i hear Runrig sing this song, for it will make you weep and and be ashamed because you want to be healed and made whole, in yourself, in your family, in your life, in your nation, in what you think you and everythiing you think Sootland and you are all about. If you want to get healed and truly live, get Jesus, in your in your life Now, the storm to wash away sin and unbelief is upon this nation and calling for those blind and deaf who want to hear and see. this is truth. If you know the truth, then the truth shall MAKE you free. if the son therefore shall make you free, then you shall be free indeed
I rarely leave comments about much to do with Runrig these days, but can't truly think of anything that compares to all this, all because really quite essentially Calum and Rory would be asked around to dinner on a Sunday night by Blair Douglas and/or his mother in Glasgow (which Calum I think said once on their 30th anniversary thing on BBC Radio Scotland, was very welcomed at the time lol) and she mentioned was desperate for a band, is why they started essentially haha.
