Why using 100 fps? Isn't 60fps be enough, as it gets downgraded to 60fps on some displays or RU-vid? And its not 120fps, so better displays can show it in native 120fps?
The base frame rate for this video is 25fps. The 100fps footage has been slowed down in camera to match the base frame rate of 25fps. And the reason for 25fps & 100fps is because I live in the UK. Our TV signals match the frequency of our electrical system 👍
Interesting and informative. The other approach would be to use your phone camera instead - the technology and image quality of iPhones have really become fantastic- 10 bit Log shooting in ProRes- and 3 native lenses for varied focal lengths. It seems the 'gimbal' is what you are giving up with a phone - though phone stabilization is getting very good. Thoughts on this versus an iPhone Pro??
Absolutely valid points. I’m probably a bit old school in my approach, but everyone is different. I grew up with camcorders in the 80s & 90s. As you say, why not on a phone? I guess it’s just preference. I use my phone a lot for bits of social, but don’t tend to go much further. Also everyone has a phone now, so it’s good to be different? 😀👍
Could you please tell me what mode or setting you used to get these shots? I'm having a really hard time getting stable non stuttery video with this camera
Sure no worries. It was standard picture profile, 100fps, 1/200 shutter & standard stabilisation. Just added light warp stabilisation in Premiere after and that was it 👍 hope that helps!
No worries. Yes, it was DlogM, graded with Dehancer. It was 4K 25fps & shutter 1/50. The slomotion was 100fps & shutter 1/200. Sharpness and noise reduction on the lowest settings - I think -2 & -1. Hope that helps.
Great video - and congratulations on not using the word “cinematic“ once! As a tv director myself, I’m always looking out for new equipment to bring into my projects. I needed a lightweight camera for a top shot in a BBC CYMRU. drama last month and had no hesitation in using the Osmo Pocket 3. I can see me using it again for moving car interiors etc in the future…
Haha the phrase is one of the biggest misconceptions these days. Totally not a fan of it! I was speaking to someone from ITV today on a shoot and I said this should be given to regions too instead of mobile kits 👍 wide range of use cases as you say!
Hi, thank you for watching. I have to be honest, I don't shoot in HLG on this camera. As my preferred colour profile is D-logM as it offers the image I prefer.
Great video. I bought the pocket3 for the video quality. I also have the Sony a7siii but adding this to a gimbal and not being 100% sure of my skill level with such a great camera, I find I can get excellent real estate videos with the P3. Note, ND filters are a must on this thing to get pleasing footage. Anyway… after my ramble. I picked up your interview was at 25 fps and slow motion at 120 fps. Am I missing something, did you switch from PAL ?
Great that you have a use case for the P3. And as you say, to keep that shutter speed in check, the ND filters are a must! I shot the real time footage in 25fps and the slow motion in 100fps. But in the 'Top 5' example I just said 120fps to make it a bit different. Hope that clears it up 🙂 Thanks for watching!! 🙌
I take cameras for work I work in media and advertising. I keep my eye on new tech because anything that makes my job easier and faster I'm interested in but one of the things I've noticed and this happens time and time again and even more so recently is there is always a band of people who within days of a product coming out will be putting up videos of the brutal honest truth and why they don't like it and why it's rubbish. Of course it's great click bait and it helps them get more views on their channel and make more money but if you don't know how a camera works don't make videos about it until you do and unfortunately you probably fall and foul of this as many others do. Fortunately I'm intelligent enough to see through this and I usually leave comments on their channels and I buy according to some good reviewers on RU-vid who give a balanced review. Unfortunately everything to do with photography on RU-vid seems to be extremely biased and reviews are biased as well. Because my work is so varied I have a large collection of cameras for every occasion so all of mine have a job to do whether it's a small job or a large job. The pocket 3 like most of my cameras has a place in my bag for .specific occasions and jobs because that's all it's really good for. Sometimes how many times you need many completely different cameras. I've owned a few months and I've probably taken maybe 30 minutes of video on it and it does it very nicely but I wouldn't review it. Thankfully I am not a youtuber as I would be too embarrassed to admit it!
Fantastic video, Paul! I have started bringing my Pocket 3 when I’m filming weddings and it is so handy when used in conjunction with my Canon R5 mirrorless cameras. You can get really unique angles and in good lighting it is so much better than mucking around with a big gimbal.
Thank you! Glad you have found a great use for it. I think most of us can find a use for a device like this for sure! Hope it's producing the goods for you! 😁👊
Great video, so helpful, and great quality. I am a DJI Pocket 3 owner myself and completely agree, 4K 120fps out of camera that small, incredible! It would be awesome if you checked my channel out to.
All good points but 1 thing and it's. BIG thing. The focus. The continuous focus constantly searching for what to focus on, make a lot of footage unusable. Basically, the focus sucks and needs a serious upgrade in the next update. Otherwise, apart from the digital zoom also, it's great.
Agree with you on the focus 👍 It did improve slightly in the last update, but still lots to improve on for sure. If they sort it as you say...for $500 there can't be many complaints!
Paul thanks for the footage .. look forward to watching the other channel that has pocket three usage. Which question, regarding the weight issue and shakiness of subjects in the foreground you mentioned that going slow motion May solve the issue? Do you mean moving slowly ( like a ninja) or shooting in slow-mo?
Thanks! Hopefully we'll have a few shoots done over the next month, so I will report back 👍 it's difficult to solve the shake issue, but if recording in 100fps it isn't as noticeable. Unfortunately its just a quirk of having a light camera.
The only missing feature is the zoom, if it could zoom at least like mobile phones then perfect 100%. Currently it can only do a tiny zoom mean this is purely for video blogging only, it can't replace mobile phone.
@@PaulGarrity hopefully P4 delivers the zoom feature, given that the lens house is reasonably big, I think they should be able to fit in the zoom mechanism. Thanks.
😂 the interchangeable lens of camera is not replaceable by any cameras. Phone camera is just toy, if I was pay handsomely, to brainwash others that iPhone can make Hollywood movies, I will say that too😂
Your footage looks great, but this camera is not something that will replace my mirrorless, for example. I am leaning more towards an insta360 or an AI gimbal for my iphone if I want to get that special content
Hi, yes this camera won't replace my mirrorless cameras either - especially for work. Although, lots will find it so useful. The possibilities are exciting with the P3 👍
