I have successfully done a cable like this, on a sampler, purely on how you explained it. I do have a question, though... you have very neat edges on the stockinette stitch - would you do a video on this manner of selvedge for stockinette, please?

Not sure why you call a purl stitch a reverse stockinette stitch. That is confusing to a beginner.
