Sorry but turning the wheel in a gravel pit is ALWAYS a bad idea. There is more injury caused by doing that than by just taking the tire wall impact. Presuming that you build your cars safety first speed second that is. As a former driver and current rescue worker, I cannot tell you how good it was to see that you were okay.
You should have stayed straight, a light car like that would slow down considerably with the gravel, especially as you shouldn't been doing no more than 60mph, if you were doing more than that for the corner you clearly weren't braking anywhere near enough

@F1Master007 Well i think i got something i my head that month, i made some more stupid comments :S ofc they are not braking on the straight. But i think they were way out of your league :P and when karting, brakes should be used except for when there is nothing else to do...
speedster, at the speed i was going i would have skimmed across the gravel like a boat on water. that would have led to a front end impact which in the end would have cost a lot more. im not saying i planned it that way it just worked out. and yes i had a
were you responsible for the damage, even though the mechanical failure was out of your control? it seems like, given the unusual nature of the failure, it was very good/quick thinking on your part to deploy the handbrake!
@akaeon they are not common, the right side tires dug into the gravel and that popped the bead, compressed the springs and eventually inertia took over along with that built up spring energy
@TheCoreymac , I wasnt at the time, but i am now. What is it that you would have done to avoid that? I was already at full brake when Rayhall decided to move back across the track. If i broke any harder I would have locked the front tires and hit him harder. Also as you can see there is no room to cut to the right and even if i could have all of my tire was being used under braking. I would have locked up as soon as i turned the wheel.
lee, i remember u were showing me and peter b this video on the gpny computer and when the swears came on, it went through all the speakers in gpny, and arie wasnt too happy... anyway, i saw this video again, and cant help but laugh, hope ur season is going well, be great to see u again at any race track soon-stan
