Off Road, Overlanding and Camping all over North America. This channel is a little different. We hit things a little harder than most overlanders feel comfortable with.
We just did Black Bear a few days ago. It's very hyped up as far as the difficulty goes, but you couldn't ask for a more beautiful drive. Just take your time and pick your line, piece of cake. I did it in a stock 2012 Wrangler, six speed manual.
Wow, the exact same thing happened to me several years ago. Except I slid further off the slope before a small tree stopped me. Fortunately for you got past it. Great video, thanks!
Wish I could conquer the fear of the heights thing I have now, that I never had before. I was involved in a construction incident in the early 90s. Since that time, I have experienced multipple HPP events and can't seem to shake it. Guess I'll just live out these kinds of things by the videos. Thanks for that.
Sold my 80 series and have been slowly seeing up my Silverado for a family camping and overlanding / weekend warrior and daily driver so this has been some great inspiration
It's the 'scariest' but in a short wheelbase under 150'' wheelbase you're not even going to have an issue. People have done it in HD series trucks...I've been on much more sketchy shelf roads around CO haha. You BETTER respect it but yeah, it's not a big deal, then you get a beer down in telluride! And telluride is like the los angles of CO.. 180 degrees from Ouray!
Our first time up black bear pass, we went up it from telluride by a tour guide, & my dad drove it in his old wrangler ‘95 YJ SAHARA EDITION! Pretty scary! If you don’t know they you’re doing & go too fast, then yes! BBP can be dangerous!
It’s a mildly difficult trail is all. What can get you in trouble on Black Bear is poorly kept vehicles, your rig should be mechanically sound, faulty brakes, brake lines, shoes, emergency/parking brake must be in order. An automatic transmission is best here, you slip your foot off clutch, you could be history. The other ingredient for Disaster is inexperienced off road drivers. Last but not least, bad weather can give you problems.
What is the towing capacity of your Jeep? We just got a new Bronco with the V6 but capacity is 3500, so we're looking at the Lite, but would prefer the features of the OP2 but fully loaded would exceed the tow rating.
Did mineral creek to engineers pass back down to Silverton in the 90s in a rental wrangler no GPS no cell phones with a cooler full of water and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Nice set up. How do you like towing it with the JLUR? I have a 2016 JKUR in 37s geared 4.88,and also live in Washington. Currently looking for a trailer for family camping trips at wheeling spots.
He does not have it anymore. Apparently the setup and pack-down was too much of pain. He does the pack-down incorrectly in this video anyway. The lid is long and a real pain to close. He conveniently cut it out from the video. Take with a bucket of salt anything shown or said on social media, especially Facebook.
