Hello there! I'm Abraham, an educator and designer, and I'd love to share my story with you.
My channel is about my life in Kazakhstan and my experiences as a designer and teacher. I'll share my adventures with you; hopefully, you'll learn something from them.
Trust me, I'll try to make it fun. So, join me on this journey, and let's learn and grow together!
I just started Japanese on Duolingo and love it. I am also going to use some learning books to go with it and slowly transition to immersion in Japanese content on RU-vid.
Yeah, i started learning it too. I find its best to. Learn enough vocabulary first. Cases are useless if you know not much vocabulary and it'll be much much much harder. Than it has to be also when you finish learning enough vocabulary adjective nouns verbs adverbs prepositions literally LEAVE NOTHING OUT learn the 5 7 and 8 letter rule. When you dive into grammar. Im telling you itll help you so much. And make things ao much clearer and after that cases should be A BREEEZEEEE to learn then after that technically you should be able to communicate 5/10 the other half would be learning how VERBS AND ADVERBS WORK and plural singular stuff but yeah thats the strat im doing right now. I learn ten words per day. And i use duolingo to give me a feel of how russian is spoken. But yeah 10 words per day would be 3650 words by the end of the year which is more than enough *if you learn yhe rigjt words to speak and communicate in fact russian speakers require 500 of the most common words that are used everyday to be able to communicate
Yes, thanks for the comment. Also, as an educator, I have experimented with my students, and one thing I have discovered is that students who focus on grammar from the beginning tend to struggle with speaking. They always think of the correct grammar to use, while others aren't scared of making mistakes until they get it right. And eventually, they do get it right.
Came across your video and I want to answer the wedding part As you mentioned Kazakhstan is huge so relatives who live far away don’t get the chance to meet each other very often Also we have the rule of 7 fathers which means if you’re are related to a bride /groom 7 generations back from both mothers and fathers side - you’re not allowed to marry since it’s considered an insect (it’s been now scientifically proven) So usually the Kazakhs marry someone from a whole different part of the country and the weddings are the only chance to see your long distance relatives in a lifetime Ofc now we have internet and maybe it doesn’t make sense now so the weddings are becoming less and less festive
Hi , thank you for your great talk! I have one question: how is the quality of healthcare? It probably varies, but at least maybe you know what it's like in big cities, such as Almaty or Astana?
My view as a foreigner might differ though. I go to private hospitals for my checkups and consultation fee is usually between $10 - $20. In terms of healthcare, it's good enough, I struggled a bit with the language when I got here, most doctors don't speak English. It's easier now that I can communicate. Nothing huge to really quantify the healthcare system but my few occasions have been fine.
Hello my brother. Living in KZ for 5 years, Have you seen any Kazakhs that follow Christianity? I know a majority of Kazakhs are of Muslim in faith, but was wondering if you seen or know any Kazakh persons, or see any Christian orthodox churches? I do know of there are less than a handful of Catholic Churches there. God bless brother.
Hello, yes you’re right. Although I haven’t been on the lookout for specific churches, all I know is that Christians exist and yes, I have met Christian Kazakhs. It’s a tolerant country I must say.
Yes, my English teacher is catholic Christian. Even though majority of us are Muslim many of people here are against hijabs(they even call the people who are covered slaves of Arabs 💀). They say that hijabs are traditional Arab clothing and we as Kazakhs have our own traditional clothing. And unlike in other Muslim countries Kazakh women were not forced to cover their hair and face and they were “allowed” to speak even if strangers were around. Women covered their hair only when they get married but covering their face was never a thing. But we follow many rules of islam. For example worshipping five times in a day, fasting during ramadan and not eating pork etc (not everyone ofc) I identify myself as the Muslim but don’t worship five times a day
I just want to say thank you. I watched every single video of this Duolingo Episode. Im from Germany and im learning Russian too and these videos helps me a lot. Unfortunately the Episode ends here.
That’s lovely! Thanks for letting me know this!! Sincerely as much as you enjoyed the series, it has also helped me a lot. I was kind of scared of facing the camera and this challenge helped me overcome it too. Once again, thank you!!
Thanks for the comment and sorry for my late response. Russian learning is 90% conversational, so I didn’t focus on reading from the start. It’s difficult for me to say this is when I started reading but the thing is, even now, I still find words I don’t understand when I read and have to check out.
Hello! Here’s the response from Madiyar They just give three questions, and you have to write an essay answering these three questions. The same as in the 1st tour, but instead of a week, they will be given 45 minutes.
Thank you teacher for your succinct lessons. I enjoy learning with you. In American English we always call them erasers. A 'rubber' is most commonly used in reference to a condom. 😅
Oh! Of course I understand. I’m sorry you got the wrong message. I check but had deleted my source video. So I might just delete the video but I hope people read these comments though. I sincerely appreciate your comments. I almost stopped the challenge a few days ago. You’re the one reason I continued. I enjoy making the videos and will be happy to hear your thoughts too.
Hello, good video except instead of the word displayed was different from what you said. Гостиница- hotel was said Гостиная- living room was shown Also strange caption words appearing as you speak, my captions are off.
Thank you for pointing that out! I'll make sure to double-check the captions for accuracy in future videos. Also, I'll make sure to double-check the captions for accuracy in future videos.
very funny to watch, I also believe that such videos are very helpful for those who are learning foreign languages and really struggle with getting out of the shell and actually speaking the language, so thanks so much!
Road and street are almost nearly synonymous today here in USA. I have noticed many English words that could have been adapted by Russian immigrants over history. Convoy, Domicile. I'm no lingual historian so do not take these as facts, just similarities that I have noticed. I have noticed others but I cannot remember right now.
I agree with what you on the usage of roads and streets. I can't remember the last time someone tried to distinguish road and street. Also, that's an interesting observation! Languages often influence each other over time, I used to think the English language was the one always taking from others.
Hi bro, you're video came on my feed and i clicked out of curiosity & to contribute to your viewership. As I immediately thought it might be great to get you on another RU-vidr I follow's show regarding life over in Kazakhstan. He generally promotes repatriation, remote work & dating internationally from a black man's perspective. It might be good exposure for you and would be nice for others to hear your experiences in general. The channel is International Passport (he's actually live at the time of me writing this message, discussing Nigeria). Either way, salute to you & wish you all the best in your persuits.
Good day Chief, Your video was fascinating. Kudos to you. Please how can i get a Kazakhstan Visa as a Nigeria and what are the opportunities available for foreigners in Kazakhstan?
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. Recently, coming to Kazakhstan has been by invitation. It's either you get a job and your company helps you secure a visa or a university admission. In my case, I was invited by a university but the process isn't as it was five years ago.
The part about volunteering in a library is inspiring. How did you go about it. Did you just ask a library if you could do it? How did people find out about it in order to come to the classes? I'm very interested in this.
I'd say I was lucky to be invited by the American Corner to the Library. It was a call for volunteers, my head of department told me about it and I just happened to be available. They organised and call for students all I did was only to show up and then It continued from there. You might as well look out for branches of The American Corner in your country on Instagram. I wish you the best.
I've actually learnt a lot from this video. It seems as though you know me personally, and you've heard me speak, so you're correcting my mistakes. This is so insightful. Thank you
Thanks for this video. It has been an inspiration. I will try learning 5 Russian words a day, but sometimes learning 1 word means learning 12 variations hahaha.
@@AbrahamSalako2019 Yeah! I feel that.. 🤣 People keep telling me to focus on one case at a time, but I find it hard to do much with a word if I only know the nominative form. But then again it's hard to do much when I keep mixing up all the cases anyway... so maybe I should just take the advice.
You will figure out all the variations later on. If you mind, my personal approach of learning languages (btw I'm Russian) is to avoid all 'linguistic' ways and learn it as a child. Children don't ask for cases explanation, they just catch the sentence mom or dad just said and repeat it, they even imitate intonation (if we speak about tonal languages it's important). So, be as a child as one guy once said...
The word динамик in Russian means a speaker (piece of hardware), if it was not intentional for comic purposes, make sure to not translate single words without context in the future ;)
Thank you! I was just thinking about it this morning. I made use of a Translator of course. It just doesn’t sound right. Thanks for the comment. I’ll work on it right away.
