Coming from humble beginnings and living in poverty, Anusha managed to find her voice through her involvement in local youth singing groups and her own poetry. Originally trained in Classical Music but she branched out with her own music in 2021. Inspired by artists like Fiona Apple, serpentwithfeet and ANOHNI - she released her first single “Someone I Never Wanted”.
After falling sick and becoming disabled in 2020, she decided to learn about disability and commit her creative endeavours to strictly virtual performances and remote music creation. She now continues to release music, visual art projects and physical zines.
On this channel expect documentations of her work as well as her thoughts on community, anarchist work and how this interlinks with her artistic practice.
@@catalina5706 honestly thank you, it’s been 6 years in the making and I’m finally comfortable! It’s amazing how even physically I’m better than I was before. Let’s hope these 2 years are smooth sailing
agree 100% with this- spotify (and all other streaming services) rewards only big artists and/or artists releasing a glut of playlist fodder. we can't match the output quantity nor the reach of big artists, but that's to our advantage. rather than buy into the rat race, making each release into something more substantial is definitely the way to go. physical releases, remixes, collaborations, liner notes and music videos (as you mentioned!) definitely gives more weight to what we do and keeps the music and its themes on people's minds much more. it allows us to connect with our audiences by giving our music the personal touch, and its definitely much more sustainable than the fractions of a penny streaming services graciously (/s) give we played around with the idea of making physical discs for our next project by using lightscribe discs and using making printouts for jewel cases - you've definitely solidified the idea in our mind
@@pbee9953 it’s why I’m here!!! I’ve been thinking about it for a while but honestly I was thinking to myself when doing this album strategy thing - like I can’t be asked. Cant be bothered It’s just tiresome to have to think about these changes and what have you. Sure I’ll put my music ON there but beyond that I’m not exactly bothered. Especially when they announced the 1000 listens change (idk if you heard) but that was more than enough for me. And I think on top of that, something I may have skirted in the video - we’re Black and marginalised! We’re not gonna be at the forefront of these peoples minds. So why bother
At one point I was starting to get traction on Spotify for my podcast and then I just fell off. There was some behind-the-scenes drama and I just felt there was too much of a barrier there but that may not have been the platform. I have had other people talk about how hard it was and a friend quit because it's a lot of work and no real payout till you hit some unattainable threshold
@@DottiethePsychic it’s the moving goalposts for me, it reminds me of Instagram a lot where they prioritise one thing and then it’s like “soz babes, let’s try that again”
Crazy coincidence. Recently I was talking to another racialized friend about a environmental concern that is impacting my neighborhood. They seemed very dismissive and questioned my legitimacy when I brought it up, and I thought exactly like you said “why should plead for my life” and plead for my community .
@@Crane_001 exactly, it makes me sad because you want to spread awareness but I think sometimes you’ve got to step back, especially if it’s messing with your psyche
Thank you for this Anusha! Really needed to be reminded of this, as I haven't been mindfully questioning the push behind "covid-safer shows" and who that ends up leaving behind when we focus on that, even despite often (but not always) being housebound myself!
I thought this was going to be a song😂 definitely not disappointed though, you always put things I’m thinking so well! Yessss, Why does the idea of voluntarily killing a friend feel ok with peoples mental health? Like that feels good and positive to their brains? Ugh, I rally needed to hear all this today, absolutely love you x
I love you too! Honestly, it's such a rubbish feeling knowing that people's "mental health" means we can't go outside or access spaces safely! It's infuriating
Fav pics are 3 and 4. Really good video, mainly for your ease in front of the camera and your considered approach. You solicited tips but since this video is over a year old and I've seen your subsequent work, I have no tips to offer. Just keep on sleuthing out themes and juxtaposing seemingly unrelated objects to visualise said themes.
The little bit extra at the end was really insightful. It's good to know that essentially your goal is to contribute to society using your position and experience. I never thought you were doing this out of a vain sense of legacy building, not that I don't follow artists that do. The cult of celebrity is rather endemic and all that. Sorry to hear about the knife wielding neighbour as well. Hope they are in no way a threat to you currently.
First, we're mutuals on the site formerly know on Twitter. How did I forget you have an active RU-vid account? My bad! My favorite part of this that you said is "Community over Capital". I'm relatively new to economic theory, and don't have a label for myself but I love that idea
Hey friend!! I’m not very vocal about my RU-vid on here 😭 But thank you - tbh this is how I process stuff with big fancy words then trying to relay it to people 😂
