Welcome to my very small corner of the internet - talking about books from my recliner. I'm Scot, The Bald Book Tuber. After years of passionately consuming Booktube, I decided in January of 2022 to make my own channel. I hope you'll enjoy your stay!
Wow I thought he read for Brandon Sanderson I heard somewhere that Christopher is planning to do something like the cosmere multiple series’s in the same universe is that true because it would be awesome
@@mix-jk3ys I’m not sure what you mean about reading for Sanderson. As to the question, after he finishes and publishes book 7, he has talked about writing other works within the Sun Eater universe, but no concrete plans yet.
@BaldBookTuber sounds amazing. Will they be their own series with their individuality with long serieses like the cosmere long serieses in the same universe without interacting with each other or will it be something like knight of the seven kingdom from asoiaf dunken a knight from westros with interacting with the main lore and world of asoiaf honestly i will eat anything he writes but i wish for the series to be it's own thing
@@mix-jk3ys I’m not sure even CR knows 100% at this point what the next book/series will be. Stay tuned and be sure you are subscribed to his channel and newsletter for updates.
Did you find Malazan to be hard to follow on audiobook? I have the first five on audio but a ton of people have not recommended listening saying that it’s harder to follow on audio… I figured I should ask an expert.
I’m about as far from a Malazan expert as there is, but I appreciate the question. I really do enjoy the audio for the series, especially Lister for the first three books, but I’m also a huge Michael Page fan. I did the whole series immersively - it’s just the best reading experience for me personally to read and audio simultaneously using the kindle and audio versions together. I think I could probably reread on audio fairly well, but doing a straight audio of the series as a first time read is likely beyond my personal capacity. Hope you love it!
I’m ok, just been busy with life. I’ll be meeting my favorite author of all time Robin Hobb next weekend, so hopefully will post some stuff about that. I appreciate you checking in.
Scot, I just restarted Empire of Silence (kind of on the back-burner for now because I'm also reading Fool's Fate) but whats the reading order for Sun Eater? I hear contradictory things and when and where novellas and Short Stories come into it
Hey sir! Super happy to hear this, as obviously Hobb is my all-time favorite author and CR is comfortably in my top 5. He and his wife maintain a website, and FAQ’s (including reading order) can be found here: www.sollanempire.com/faqs
I can’t find any evidence of Howard, Lovecraft, and Sapkowski being Catholic……. Also Scott, based on your response I’m curious, are you a person of faith yourself?
@samm8190 I am, but it’s personal to me and I don’t really talk about it. My response was based perhaps on a misunderstanding of the original poster’s point; I was saying if they consider the list invalid because of the religious beliefs of Christopher and/or this collection of authors, that type of close-minded thinking is gonna be tough for me to get on board with.
@thatsci-firogue All will be revealed - my understanding is that it isn’t specifically the Wit, but I always have to go to Derry with these questions. :)
@@BaldBookTuber I can't wait to get to Ship of Destiny, but right now I want to finish Boy's Life and Lonesome Dove first. I want to prevent burnout as much as I possibly can.
Some fantastic women narrators, Josephine Bailey for Boudica : Dreaming the Eagle, Tara Rodrigues for Daughter of the Empire and Ruth Urquhart for Daggerspell!!
Daughter’s War is being released at the end of June, the prequel to the Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman! If you have not read it, get the audio!! He is my new favorite author! I also loved Between the Fires and the Lesser Dead!
You’re very welcome. I plan to read Urth soon, though with Christopher busy writing book 7 of Sun Eater, I’m not sure we’ll be able to get a talk going.
Christopher Ruocchio's heartfelt defence of Tolkien and LotR made him rise even more in my eyes. I whole-heartedly agree. Silmarillion is my #1 book of all time.
I feel like you two could really love Janny Wurts' Wars of Light and Shadow. Overall and especially in terms of sophisticated and beautiful prose, thematic depth and worldbuilding, it's in the upper echelon of Fantasy. Janny Wurts deserves a lot more credit and attention.
Hey Marc - thanks for the watch and detailed comment. I did actually try to get into L&S back in ‘22 and got about 250 pages into Mistwraith before putting it down. I do want to get back into it at some point, but lack of audio was really hurting my experience, as I love to immersively read such big series.
Yeah, that's sad, but the series needs more hype in order to get audio books. I hope you get back into it in spite of that. I recently finished book 10 and am now waiting on the final novel. She makes you work, though, and face yourself relentlessly. But I love it and find it immensely rewarding!
Thanks for reaching out Rogue - I appreciate it. All is good, just been in a reading and video making slump lately. I’ll get the ball rolling again at some point. Hope you and yours are good as well!
It's a solid list but the marble rye has to be there. It's perfect. Right to the last throw in scene where John Jermaine can't play sax cuz he finally went down on Elaine
I found "Shadow of the Torturer" in my grandfather's library when I was about 13-14 (after Lord of the Rings trilogy and Interview with a Vampire) and I think I missed a lot of things that were over my head, like the idea of an "unreliable narrator". But to think books should be in the third person and not the first? Frankly, I find that totally bizarre. Did you grow up in the Bible Belt?
I’ve read countless books written in both first and third person - I like things about each, but generally tend to prefer third person in most cases. I grew up north of the bible belt in Nebraska. Thanks for watching!
This was amazing, I am sad that I found this video only now. I really like how Christopher compares Witcher with Arthurian canons, it's exaclty how I see this, based on Sapkowski essays on the Arthurian mythology.
Finally finished the book a few days ago. Absolutely fantastic! The ending hit all the right notes Minor spoilers? Matthew coming into the library for the reveal. And Dr Shields confessing were both great. Bidwell finally turning his ire on someone deserving. The hypnotism! Wow
I tried to get into The Dark Tower several years ago because even though I’ve never been a Stephen King fan I will listen to Frank Muller read a foreign language I don’t understand. I couldn’t get past about 30 minutes. It’s on my list of things to give another try.
I hope you end up enjoying it as much as I did, but it really isn’t a series that will click for everyone. I love Frank’s narration for the first few books, and George’s narration for the last three is also good.
