The Hillside High School Marching Band is a nationally recognized organization. Hillside's band has traveled extensively throughout the United States and has been featured in the movie Ink Well, as well as performed for President Jimmy Carter. Following the groundwork laid by Philmore Hall, Joseph Mitchell, Clarke Edgerton, and Xavier Cason, the current Hornets aspire to keep the Legacy alive and strong. Chris Hayes and Darrel White has brief successful years as directors. Cybil Haskins added a new spin as the first female director, and now Jordan Jones is the current director of bands. Of more than 300 historically black high schools that once operated in the state before desegregation, only five remain today, with Hillside being the oldest. In 2022 Hillside High School celebrated their 100th Birthday! Go Hillside Hornets!!

I understand just what the lady band director is going through. There are not enough of us ladies in this profession but she really wants to be there and cares for the students. This is something that I wanted to do but had to drop music as a major due to struggling with Music Composition issues. I am a retired educator and have an almost music minor attached to my undergraduate degree. Also,the students impressed me with their work ethic. However,get there on time people!

You all look and sound good too. Alumnus 1988 I'm not used to seeing Hillside Marching Hornets looking "NAKED" It has been many years since I have seen the band perform. YOU ALL NEED an EXTRA 100 Members. Majorettes, Flag Girls, Clarinets, Trumpets, Saxophones Flutes Trumpets, Percussionists.

Wow!!! HHS Band was 300 STRONG when I was in it. This a a disgrace to the legend of Hillside and to C E Edgerton! ! He was the best director in the land!!
I can’t take this dancer in the middle half assing every stand routine. Please don’t let her make the squad next year! 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏿♂️ Other dancers look good!!! That captain energy is lit 🔥
