Mckinstry had an undiagnosed Jones fracture during pro day. I have had experience with Jones fractures in both feet 15 years apart. First the injury is a fracture in the non or very low vascularity portion of Metatarsal V - a bone leading to the pinkie toe. Without treatment, it can lead to permanent disability where the bone never heals. Since it was undetected at the time of injury, it likely is just a fracture without an obvious break in the bone. On the negative side there might be a slight chance that it is worse now because it wasn't detected and may be more difficult to get this notorious spot to heal given the very poor blood supply that defines the Jones diagnosis. I had my first Jones fracture on my right foot back in 1996 after landing on another player’s heel. I opted for a cast. After many months it promptly broke again the first time I made a hard cut in basketball. I tried the bone stimulator for many months to no avail. I finally bit the bullet and had surgery - they attached a plate along the outside of the bone. Eventually, it was fully healed though the plate is still there. Fast forward 2011 - insas under cut a bit and broke the left metatarsal V when I came down on a defenders foot. Wiser now, I called my ortho surgeon and asked for the standard insert be placed inside the bone. Luckily, a cancellation had just occurred and I was in surgery 3 days later. I rehabbed daily and was back to playing in less than 2 months. No problem since - still playing full-court with under 30s at 66 15 months post bypass surgery. Assuming Kool-Aid received an insert, he should be playing in 2-3 months conservatively after surgery at the latest. His repaired bone will be much stronger than his unbroken one. IMO he will be participating in Los Vegas soon.
Good breakdown, guys. Take the 22.4M off the books for 2025 and replace that with 11M guaranteed for 2025 and 11M unguaranteed for 2026. The Saints do have to try to get away from having to keep these older guys around just because cutting them blows up the salary cap. Problem is they're so far behind the 8-ball as it is, that each year they end having to do the restructures just to get under the cap for the coming year. At some point you might not even be able to do enough restructures to get under the cap. There are so many unknowns here, despite having had him for 7 years. I think they'll get something done before the start of training camp, but we'll see.
I think make or break year for Werner is understatement. Seen a production about Willie Gay and his Family and he seems like a guy that wants to be close to his Mississippi home town so I’m sure he’s going to give everything he can to get a new contract with Saints. I think it will be winner take all on the next contract at LB. The winner stays and loser goes.
Saints media say the darnedest things. Saying AK has leverage and the Saints would be in trouble without him, when he could be absolute crap in this Kubiak scheme? Look at Dameon Pierce from the Texans, in 2022, he was one of the best up & coming RB’s, but he doesn’t fit the Shanahan scheme, so he sucked in 2023 and will continue to suck, they need to trade him to a different scheme. Invest high in a RB to replace AK? Draft a RB high? What? Have you paid attention to RB’s in the Shanahan/Kubiak system? It requires a very specific skill set & an ability that’s almost instinctive. The good news is, you can find someone with this skill set typically on someone’s practice squad. At worst, they can draft someone in the 3rd-5th round next year, that can be a 1,000 yard rusher, which strangely enough, is something AK has NEVER done? AK & Kendre Miller may be horrible in Kubiak’s scheme and Jamaal Williams & Jordan Mims may be awesome at it. The ONLY tricky part is finding someone who is good at it, who can also catch, doesn’t fumble and can pass protect. If Kubiak isn’t sure about any of the RB’s currently on the roster, he can still sign Dalvin Cook off the street for next to nothing, who he knows can run his scheme, even if he’s past his prime.
They are on the hook for 11.6 this year 22 in 25 give him 30 guaranteed three years and let him retire at year ten and he will be happy and maybe if he goes off and we win one he has a chance at the hall
I'm not looking in the past at all. I'm looking at the offense that was ran by Pete Carmichael. AK has never been a between the tackle RB he's always had another running mate(Mark Ingram) to be that type of RB, but Carmichael was running AK up the middle, s9 of course his numbers would decline. I GUARANTEE AK will hv a better season this year coming. Hell, I believe that he's gonna put up better numbers than McCaffrey this coming season!!!
Jake Haener is the future but more importantly Derek Carr will excel in this offense and will be starting for the next 4 years then Jake will take over. Rattler will be a career backup.
CMC is in NO WAY a Comp to AK! What are you even talking about? CMC is coming off a 2,000 yard from scrimmage & OPoY winning season. AK can try to argue Barkley & Jacobs are his comps, but they’re younger. His actual comps are probably Henry & Mixon. That’s a 2 year deal, 16 million total, 8 million per year. The Saints would be KIND to guarantee all 16 million, That’s his comp. Which works out to a pay cut this year for some guaranteed money in 2025. Arguing anything more than that is delusional to what the market currently is.
I would be open to incentives built in on top of the 8 million guaranteed per season for 2024 & 2025. Each season would have up to 6 million that could be earned in incentives , all would qualify as “unlikely to earn”, so would count against the cap. Here’s the breakdown 1 million for 1,500+ yards from scrimmage. 1 million is the Saints make the playoffs. 2 million if AK wins OPOY 2 million if the Saints make the Super Bowl..
Saints will draft in the SAME position with Carr (12-15) with 7-9 wins MAX!!! Smfh we NEED to draft in the top 3 in 2025 in order to get a franchise player.
HOLD OUT AK. Don’t play with this organization who squandered your talents and gifts for THREE YEARS. Hold OUT AK. Stick em real good so they LEARN from past mistakes. Take some money from CARR or WHOMEVER AND PAY AK!!!! ISWIS HES STILL AFFECTIVE.
They weren’t Careful paying that lemon what they paid and he hadn’t snapped one ball amongst OTHERS that CLEARLY ROBBED THIS ORGANIZATION. And stop it with him walking out he has that right. Yall to BIASED with this bullish! They are not ALVIN. Kendra nor Jamel is a AK. Noooo Kendre must stay healthy SHOW ME.
SOME TEAM WILL PAY THIS MAN. Let the Saints not do it AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS. It’s SAD THIS ORGANIZATION HAD WASTED TONS OF MONEY ON TRASH. AK is far from trash!!! STOP KICKING THE CAN MICKEY LOOMIS, you’ve kicked it for almost a decade. GET PAID AK.
Hold on.. who told you.. That Dallas is team.. 😅 Dallas is trashed and has been trashed.. I don't think any team, right now, in this league should be considered elite.. The refs cheat too much for any team to think of themselves as elite or for any person besides someone with loose screws to think of a team as elite.. Who KC no they want them to seem elite to hype up the sport. As long as they keep cheating people will turn away from the league more and more until the point the NFL will be bankrupt or have a cheating reform and fix itself.
Last yr he was the 2nd biggest RB contract in the NFL. His cap is massive and he's averaged under 4 YPC. We haven't used him well in 3 seasons and his camp was leaking trade rumors before the deadline 2 seasons ago. We should've traded him then. Dude hasn't earned the contract he has, much less a new one.
I’m sorry. We are not contenders with kamara. So if we could get a 4th round pick for him. I’ll just trade him. Why add to the cap hell if we’re not competing.
AK deserves job security and his 💰. He has been the heart o f this team. AK didn't have a dip in production, the Louisiana Losers have callously squandered the talents of our stars, especially Kamara: Pay. The. Man.
SAYYYYY DAT!!!! He must SECURE himself. These people are delusional who believe he’s washed. Absolutely not and we seen that with CMC after leaving poo pampers. They can’t tell me it’s over for AK. No way!!! Don’t even count those last 3 years. They better do right because we’ve seen this store not paying and our guys go elsewhere and be ⭐️ stars. Make it make sense!
Bruh I can see wanting money but he went about it the wrong way tbh if I was Mickey Loomis the answer is no we can talk at the end of the season but right now nah we good
You have that wrong. AK had a better career than CMc in Carolina he kept getting injured and AK was a top back in the league it wasn't until he got to San Fran that he stayed healthy and had a great year AK only had a bad couple of years he was the rookie of the year out of that draft class.
Look at highlights from first contract Alvin, to 2nd contract Alvin. We've seen this a million times before. Young guys run with total abandon, refusing to give up or go down. But with that 2nd contract they become businessmen. IF the hole is not there, they either go down, or step out of bounds. Something they would NEVER do before getting that big contract. All Alvin's early highlights were feats of incredible balance, and improbable escapes, when it looked like the play was going nowhere. Now, unless the blocking is perfect and there is a big hole open, he makes the business decision to go down or step out. You know he does not put in the same effort as he did before getting paid. No running back does. That's why the NFL loves rookie running backs. It's all about the effort. You are lying to yourself if you can't see the difference in effort between early Alvin, and businessman Alvin. Do I blame him? No. It's a cruel, harsh reality, but some backs will refuse to go down, until their bodies give out........while most make the business decision to stop sacrificing their bodies, when the going gets tough. That extra effort, and refusing to go down is great for securing that first contract, but that same effort can and will get you hurt....eventually. So they transition from an extreme effort rookie, to a more business decision running style.
Love your show guys. I have a lot to say ...but will bite my tongue for now. I know the hate will be incoming if I speak my mind. I look forward to you next installment.
I'm frustrated as Saints fan because again here we go to potentially extending another injured player that is probably past his prime. Saints have gotten in such a bad habit of kicking the can down the road to pay another veteran that could come back to bit them. Our Cap is a mess adding more dead money isn't helping this team. Mccaffery had almost 1500 yards rushing last year and over 500 yards receiving somewhere close to 20 TD'S no way Alvin is getting that contract. Alvin production has went down. His longest run last 2 yrs has been 27 yards. Loomis can offer additional 1 yr to keep him here for 25 & 26 but that's it. He would be 31 at that point as running back not good. Taysom Hill restructuring is again another bad idea just seems this cap isn't ever gonna get better..
Agreed. Alvin isn't putting up anywhere close to McCaffery numbers. And simply because Washington overpaid for Austin Ekler, doesn't mean we should over pay Alvin. Washington messed up, it doesn't mean we have to mess up too. IF Alvin wants a new contract, well this is his prove it year. Show us what you got, and if you still got it, we'll talk. But the last two years you've shown us very little.
@ikewilson4500 No, I'm blaming him for complaining about an extension after just showing up for mini camp. He hasn't done anything to deserve a new deal yet he still under contract. If he can produce this season Saints likely would offer another deal but to just walk out is BS. Saints could have cut him after that Las Vegas fiasco but they stuck by him and just seems like another slap in face from one it's players after been loyal to him.
